CBS: 'Polarizing' Palin Speaks At 'Anti-Abortion Rights Rally'

By Kyle Drennen | November 11, 2010 | 12:52

On Thursday's CBS Early Show, news reader Erica Hill used loaded liberal terms to describe a Texas pro-life event that Sarah Palin attended on Wednesday: "Palin shared the stage in an anti-abortion rights rally with Texas Governor Rick Perry."

Hill touted how despite making no announcement to make a 2012 presidential run, Palin "was looking an awful lot like a candidate," adding that the appearance with Governor Perry represented "a dream ticket for some tea party supporters." However, after playing a brief clip of Palin, Hill noted how "A just-released Associated Press poll finds of all the potential 2012 Republican presidential candidates, Sarah Palin is the most polarizing."

Meanwhile, an Associated Press report on the event made Palin's criticism of President Obama the headline: "Palin calls Obama 'most pro-abortion president'" The article went on to declare: "Palin described Obama as 'the most pro-abortion president to occupy the White House' at the Dallas event, which was sponsored by a nonprofit organization that promotes an anti-abortion message."

Here is a full transcript of the November 11 Early Show news brief:

7:14 a.m. EST

ERICA HILL: Taking a look now at politics and Sarah Palin, who, of course, has not said that she will run for president in 2012 but she was looking an awful lot like a candidate during an appearance in Texas yesterday. Palin shared the stage in an anti-abortion rights rally with Texas Governor Rick Perry. It's a dream ticket for some tea party supporters.

SARAH PALIN: So good to be back in the Lone Star State, always really, really good to get to be here with your governor. A man that I just dearly love and respect.

HILL: A just-released Associated Press poll finds of all the potential 2012 Republican presidential candidates, Sarah Palin is the most polarizing.

"polarizing" ?

Submitted by sarge329 on Thu, 11/11/2010 - 1:08pm.

Polarizing? What is that supposed to mean? If that means that she allows people to realize exactly how they feel about a certain position, then I'd have to agree. At least, if someone is  " polarized " , then you know where they stand. In this PC age, it's refreshing to find someone who speaks in black & white terms. Too many people, both in and out of politics, are spineless weasels ( no offense to weasels ) who can't/won't speak their minds.

"Someone Else's POV" Bias

Submitted by EricTheRed on Thu, 11/11/2010 - 1:57pm.

Meanwhile, an Associated Press report on the event made Palin's criticism of President Obama the headline: "Palin calls Obama 'most pro-abortion president'" The article went on to declare: "Palin described Obama as 'the most pro-abortion president to occupy the White House' ...

This is what I call "someone else's point of view" bias: Obama IS arguably the most pro-abortion president. Somewhere there are dumpsters full of dead full-term humans to corroborate this fact.

But by putting those words in the mouth of Sarah Palin, AP somewhat de-validates that fact. They turn the FACT of Obama being the most pro-abortion president into someone's OPINION - someone who the left considers "polarizing." AP is basically expressing to the reader: "Here's something Sarah Palin said. Don't worry about what whether the statement is truthful or worth our even analyzing. Just focus on the fact that Sarah Palin said it. And we all know how "polarizing" she is!"

Submitted by xraynova on Thu, 11/11/2010 - 2:22pm.

People aren't "polarizing."  Issues are polarizing. People take one stand or another, on opposing sides.

Palin is no more polarizing than pelosi, on the abortion issue.

Palin is no more polarizing than obama on the illegal alien issue... etc.

The problem liberals have with the term "polarizing" is that they really mean "irritating", or a "nuisance". That's why they spend so much time focusing on her every utterance. The deep-rooted essence of it all, is simply that they harbor a dreadfully intense fear that she could become the first woman president. They cope with that fear, by attacking her. Such irrational behaviour has become so commonplace, that to Conservatives, each instance becomes just a little water off a duck's back.

While liberals think they are more educated than the "unwashed masses", they are actually quite undereducated- as evidenced by their erroneous usage of simple words.

It's kind of like the way they define the process of "taking pictures".

When a Republican says she is "taking pictures", she means she is photographing. But when a liberal says she is taking pictures, she means that she is an art thief.

Seems to me that Pelosi was polarizing on numerous issues. Many member of her party that put her in the position now want her out. In a way I hope she stays in a postion of power. Come 2012 it will be worse on Democrats if she stays and Obama remains the same.

Yes Palin is poll-arising!

Submitted by eaglewingz08 on Thu, 11/11/2010 - 2:40pm.

Yes Palin is poll-arising! She got tons of people to the polls to vote in fiscal conservative candidates and to wipe out 25 percent of the democrap congresscritters. And if her numbers at 46 percent favorable and 49 percent unfavorable are 'most polarizing' then what are we to make of the less popular Obama's numbers of 43 percent favorable, 54 percent unfavorable?  Isn't he even more polarizing than Palin? Hmmm....

Why Don't You Study the Media?

Submitted by Tenebrous on Thu, 11/11/2010 - 9:23pm.

As others have said, "polarizing" is a word that media uses over and over again to say to voters "Don't vote for this person; they're scary." No good liberal votes for "polarizing" candidates. We at your friendly liberal network don't vote for "polarizing" candidates, and you shouldn't, either. Do you see how it works, yet? It's a crude form of peer pressure, and it works.

The media ALWAYS identifies the enemy, the out group, the other. What is normal is left without adjectives, Ted. That's why there are no "extreme" liberals, or heck, any liberals at all. Even Democrats go missing, because the media loves to play "hide the party designation" game. Again, what is held up as normal is not identified. Only the bad, evil, scary, threatening, enemies are identified.

I don't see how you can claim ignorance of this. This is not something new. This particular word has been used for the past 10 years, at least as liberal shorthand to achieve the effects mentioned above.

Has an official position of leadership, unlike Palin. So all the liberal media hype about how "polarizing" Sarah Palin is while making no mention of how polarizing Obama is shows what hypocrites they are. They don't care that she's polarizing, they care that the majority of Americans are on the same (conservative) pole as Palin.

Submitted by Guttermouth's Return on Thu, 11/11/2010 - 11:40pm.

But you're also a conservative, so by nature you are biased - as am I.  So in my biased head, I believe Obama believes what he's doing is best for all Americans.  He may be following a liberal agenda, because that's what Democrats tend to do (as Republicans do as well).  He's not doing it to screw Republicans.

But, you either love him (which I think has turned into "like") or hate him.  And that means he's polarizing.

I believe Palin believes as strongly as Obama that her ideas are best for the country.  It's just the difference between us.  But like Obama, she is polarizing.  And a polarizing candidate makes for a messy campaign and an uglier term.

Liberal bias /= Conservative bias, ADK

Submitted by ThisnThat on Fri, 11/12/2010 - 10:02am.

Liberal bias is towards lies -- the end justifies the means. Stealing -- all outcomes need to be "fair". And obsfucation -- when the facts aren't there, trying to divert attention.

Conservative bias is towards the truth and the use of facts and data.

Obama is a liar without data. That's why he advertised a "not to exceed" 8.5% unemployment rate using his policies. That's why he told us costs won't go up with the healtcare insurance reform. That's why he said "you can keep you current insurance", knowing full well that employers would drop their insurance plans. And even yesterday -- a day after his Chief of Staff said we will keep all tax cuts, obama came out and denied it.

It's much more than a "liberal agenda", ADK. It's a game plan to use deceit and illegal means to achieve your end. And in the end, you are wrong, wrong, wrong.

What does CBS say about Pelosi?

Submitted by ThisnThat on Thu, 11/11/2010 - 6:29pm.

A couple of items as a contrast, in case anyone's interested:

  • Op-ed by CBS news contributer, Nov 11 2010: Pelosi has credibility. An effective leader. A proven leader.
  • What Will Nancy Pelosi Do Next? from the Political Hotsheet, Nov 5 2010: Pelosi may or may not run for Minority leader. Not a single word about her being polarizing.

I searched for about 10 minutes, and could not find a single instance in which CBS called Pelosi anything but a great leader. Hypocrisy, anyone?

She is the best candidate, and she will win in 2012... if, We The People, can beat back the g.d. media frauds and statist propaganda artists, to make the fight at least fair or better. But still far too many sheep in this country simply believe whatever is on the evening "news". Because that is indeed the job of the evening "news", to inform the people.. right? So, the future is still just around the bend. It is up to people like US, to get the truth out there.
