CBS’s Harry Smith Wears Truly Terrifying Halloween Costume

On Friday’s CBS Early Show, the day before Halloween, co-host Harry Smith got into the spirit of things with a costume that will truly give viewers nightmares for years to come.

Smith, a news anchor often known for being in touch with his feminine side, decided to dress up as the late celebrity chef Julia Child. As he described it, he was “Julia Child channeling Meryl Streep, channeling Julia Child.”

The disturbing display featured Smith cracking eggs and brandishing a rubber chicken. It’s good to know that CBS is committed to maintaining the integrity and credibility of its lagging morning news program.

Update: Thanks. Thanks a lot - and I mean that unsincerely.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Rubber chicken?

Is that a chicken with a condum? On second thought, don't need to go there.

That's the CBS...

... we know and love.  Never better than when their top people come out of the closet – almost as good as watching them when they're drunk.

Well

Two words I dont associate with CBS. Integrity and credibility. Why should it be different now.Harry Smith might of been hitting the sauce to early.

I knew it.

I knew it.

Amusing, he sounds like a

Amusing, he sounds like a Julia Childs, looks like Laura Bush. Sorry Laura Bush!

CONFIRMING WHAT EVERYONE 5 MILES IN FROM THE COAST ALREADY KNEW

The guy's a tranny.

Much scarier ...

... when Smith impersonates a man

Norman Bates hosts a morning show?

Norman Bates hosts a morning show?

LOL

Funny!!

Reminds me of the time Dan Aykroyd played Julia on SNL.  Way back when it was funny.

Funny you should mention that

Julia Child actually loved that bit on SNL.

I saw the movie (I'm an unabashed foodie), and although Meryl Streep is an annoying liberal, the woman has acting chops.  It was a good flick.

I hope he fails, too.

B, I don't think SNL has

B, I don't think SNL has gotten any less funny.  Face it - we just grew out of it.

SNL has been up and down, Ted.

It seems to go through cycles.

I was in college when it first came on, and it was hilarious.  The Original Not Ready for Prime Time players were all unbelievable.  John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray, Jane Curtin, Gilda Radner,  (RIP Gilda, still miss ya!), Garrett Morris...and of course the funnies guest host of all time Steve Martin.

Some really great comedians/actors have come out of SNL....Dennis Miller, Eddie Murphy, Dana Carvey, Annoying Copy boy (his name escapes me), Tina Fey, even that awful liberal Alex Baldwin is a hoot as the creepy Scout Leader w/camping boy.

SNL just goes through cycles, and I truly believe everything is so PC these days that the writers don't have the bite that they used to (of course the first year or two they were all stoned out of their minds on cocaine).

I hope he fails, too.

Well, you have a point on

Well, you have a point on the cycles.  I was in college during the Dana Carvey, Chris Farley, Victoria Jackson, Sandler, [Rob Schneider] days, and I still claim those years to be the best.  But I don't recall a period since with that kind of future star power.  There's also the fact that after that cast moved on, I don't spend too many of my Saturday nights at home in front of my TV.

Carvey era

Definitely an up spike. Church lady, Hans & Franz, Sandler (that's the name I was reaching for).  Wayne's World.

I still think the original cast was the best, though.  There have certainly been some dry years mixed in there, too.

I haven't really made a point of watching it in a long time (watched it faithfully in college, it was the hippest thing around then....we'd walk around "Oh No, Mr. Bill")....of course Friday nights was reserved for the midnight showing of Rocky Horror.  Now, if I'm up and not busy I might flip through it to see who's on, but it usually isn't good enough for me to watch very long.

I hope he fails, too.

Are you talking about

Are you talking about Richmeister, the copy guy?  That was Rob Schneider (think puny, little guy).

Also, and since I didn't watch during the early years, were there musical acts in those days?  In the early 90s when the singer of Faith No More started climbing up the giant fan on the band stage, and tried spinning the locked blades - classic!  Some of the musical performances are just as memorable as the comedy.

Oh yeah...big time musical guests, always

Check it out.  SNL started as something else for two years, but this is from the 78-79 Seasons.

As big as they get, Stones, Dead....etc.  I just picked a season at random, too, Ted.  So you can see why we were glued each week.

And your right about the copy boy....but I knew it was that same skit was the name of the guy I was trying to think of, Adam Sandler.  I hit the Wiki site, wow, they have had some amazing people there.

I hope he fails, too.

Well Jumpin' Jesus on a Pogo

Well Jumpin' Jesus on a Pogo Stick!  Wikipedia finally comes through with something useful.  Great link, great bands.  They always cut the musical acts out on the reruns.  My favorite era, music-wise, still has to be '93-'96ish.  I'm gonna go buy some iTunes now.

Glad to be of help

Wiki is pretty useful when you're looking up popular culture type references.  I prefer it to IMDB for movie info, too.

And truly, I just hit the first year that appealed to me....but the musical acts were great.

And while we're talking SNL, CE Smith was the musical director for many years, and he was great.

I hope he fails, too.

As someone with credits on

As someone with credits on IMDB, I can assure you that much of the information on the site is in fact wrong.

For most movies

Wiki has a better plot description, but I do like the "goof ups" on IMDB....continuity errors, I think is the term you'd use.

I hope he fails, too.

Have you found the section

Have you found the section where they give you addresses of film and tv locations?  Like you can find the house from Halloween, Brady Bunch, or whatever else interests you.  Should you ever be in the LA area, of course.

No, kindly link, Ted

One of my mom's friends owned the house that was used as the Governor's mansion on Benson.   And it's been used for many other movies, television shows, etc.

The pictures of the "real" house are even more incredible than what you see on film, too.

I went to LA years ago to visit a pal, I didn't care for it very much.  She had a house in San Diego, which was a much prettier place, IMO.

I hope he fails, too.

Speaking from experience, LA

Speaking from experience, LA is a dump for the most part.  The beach towns and mountains are beautiful though, except of course Venice - another dump.  San Diego is where I plan to retire.  Gorgeous city, and much friendlier people, less plastic...you know what I'm saying.

What you have to do is search a movie or TV show, and then click the "filming locations" link on the lower left side.  Here're the results for Halloween:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077651/locations

Thanks, Ted

Here's what the site said about my mom's friend Mary Beth's house:

The exterior shot used used for the governor's mansion was a private mansion in Pasadena, California. It is the Bundy House, located at 1365 South Oakland in Pasadena. It was designed by T. Beverley Keim in 1913. The original interior of the house is entirely intact, including a fabulous domed art glass window overlooking the grand entrance.

I hope he fails, too.

I'm going to have to take

I'm going to have to take back what I said in an earlier post several weeks back: Los Angeles DOES have history!

It's a pretty cool feature for the site.  And now next time I'm in Pasadena, I'm stopping by the mansion.

Let me know when you do, Ted

And take lots of pics to send me.

As I said, it was even prettier as a "real" house (and mom's friends lived there)....sadly, they passed away about ten years ago.  I think they were WWII pals.

Thanks again for letting me know about the IMDB feature, I see buildings/scense often that I want to know more about.  Great tip, Ted.

I hope he fails, too.

You're very welcome.  And

You're very welcome.  And enjoy it.  We all need more ways to waste time online. ; )  I'll be sure to get you some shots of the mansion when I ever make it there.

I tried that Ted

With Close Encounters. I clicked on the locations and it listed Mobile, AL. Not sure what that was all about, but the scene with the mom and little kid was filmed at a house in Fairhope, AL. They also listed Bay Minnette, AL. I actually drove by the house during filming one day and passed by Richard Dreyfuss standing next to a truck eating a hot dog! LOL!  : )

POLITICS: poly (many) + ticks (blood sucking parasites)

Well, like I said earlier, a

Well, like I said earlier, a lot of the information on IMDB is incorrect (probably so they can get you to PAY for a "pro" membership).  But the location information, when true, really is pretty cool.  I used to live near the Brady Bunch house in Studio City, and even though it really doesn't look like it did in the 70s, it's still pretty cool.  The Close Encounters house would have been much cooler!

Oops!

I didn't mean to imply IMDB, it was Wiki! Sorry 'bout dat!

Gary

Eh, no worries.  But just

Eh, no worries.  But just for fun, remember that IMDB link next time there's a movie shooting in your town.

Bye week for you, Ruk

Who are you going for this weekend?

I love this hint about looking up locations on movies, very cool.

I hope he fails, too.

Well, since the Tide will stay UNDEFEATED!

I'll with: Rebs, Cat (Hous) , Gats (sorry Dave), Middies, Falcons (AF), Beavers, Cats 2.0  (KY), Cats 3.0 (NW), Hawgs, Trojans (Troy), Jackets (Yea Dave!), Cats 4.0 (WA St.), SC/TN and TX/OS are toss-ups, Ducks and The Green Wave. How's dat?  : )

ROLL TIDE!

Don't forget Phil Hartman!

That was his period too, as I recall

That was the one name I

That was the one name I couldn't remember.  But yes, he was there, and most of that era wouldn't have been as successful without him.

Another SNL Great

Such a sad ending to such a great talent.

I hope he fails, too.

Funny---

Blonde:

My first reply/response to a post by you contains a question, which requires I render obeisance, so as not to be thought a wise guy.

Consider it done.

The question---

Could the words, or phrase, "annoying liberal", be considered redundant?

"The American Republic will endure, until politicians realize they can
bribe the people with their own money." – Alexis de Tocqueville

Ahh  Haa!!! I knew it.

Ahh  Haa!!! I knew it.

Julia Child was an exceptional American

During WW II, Julia went to work as a spy for the OSS, the predecessor to the CIA. One of her assignments, among many, was to develop a shark repellent. No joke.

The U.S.Navy was concerned because sharks kept bumping into, thus detonating, sea mines that were intended for German U-boats.

I am guessing there might be a U-boat wreck or two resting on the ocean floor thanks to her efforts.

As for Harry, he isn't fit to have washed Julia's cookware.

-Dave

Our elected representatives have failed us.

I heard that...

I did hear that Julia Child did work for the OSS.  Good for her.

That was a scary video of Harry, no question.

Speaking of SNL, does anyone remember who else got their start on the show?  Paul Shaffer was the original music director.  He also did an imitation of Don Kirshner introducing the Rolling Stones (for those old enough to remember the 1970's tv series "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert").  It was hysterical.

The original cast was the best, but subsequent casts named above had some great comedians as mentioned.  Today's group I can live without.

Two more great scenes I used to enjoy:  Laraine Newman reporting on "Weekend Update" from the "Blaine Hotel" on a murder and then Don Pardo telling us later that "Guests of NBC Saturday Night stay at the fabulous Blaine Hotel in
midtown Manhatten. The Blaine, a tradition for more than half a century."  Of course there was no "Blaine Hotel".

The other was also on Weekend Update with Chevy Chase doing the final story interpreted for the deaf.  Garrett Morris was the "President of the New York School for the Hard of Hearing" and just shouted the main headlines as Chevy Chase read the top story.

Great stuff.

When will the madness end?  Hopefully, January 20, 2013.

Tom

At least, Julia child

At least, Julia child offered up something that you could swallow.

Oh come on, she doesn't

Oh come on, she doesn't look that manly.... hang on
