CBS’s Smith to Daughter of Henry Gates: ‘Was His Heart Broken?’

While interviewing the daughter of arrested Harvard Professor Henry Gates on Thursday’s CBS Early Show, co-host Harry Smith wondered: "Is there something in this that says, ‘I'm not going to take this’?...In speaking with your father, was he hurt by this?...Was his heart broken by it?" [audio available here]

Elizabeth Gates, a writer for the DailyBeast.com, declared that: "I think for anybody, you know, who is violated in their own home in that way, I think they would, you know, also call on their own defenses...My father was so sad about this, and again because he's always – you know, my father might be one of the last black men on earth who actually believed in the justice system." It would seem that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas still believes in the American justice system.

Gates, whose father was arrested for disorderly conduct after breaking into his own home, went on to explain: "You know, my father is a proponent of, you know, intellectualism can help you outrun the – the war on race. And I think the incident last week is a clear indication that that's not yet true...You know, he believes in following the rules, and when they're broken, it kind of disturbs his sense of security. And yeah, he was deeply heartbroken. I was not surprised, but he was very surprised."

While the charges against Henry Gates were dropped by the Cambridge, Massachusetts police department, Smith failed to even note the report made by the arresting officer Sergeant James Crowley. In that report, Crowley described a irate Gates shouting threats and insults: "Gates then turned to me and told me that I had no idea who I was ‘messing’ with and that I had not heard the last of it...Gates began to yell over my spoken words by accusing me of being a racist police officer and leveling threats that he wasn’t someone to mess with...I told Gates that I was leaving his residence...His reply was ‘Ya, I’ll speak with your mama outside.’"

In addition, Crowley’s report provided important context to the incident, pointing out that Gates’ own home had just recently been broken into: "Gates told me that the door [to the house] was un-securable due to a previous break in attempt at the residence."

Instead of questioning Elizabeth Gates on any of these allegations by the officer, Smith simply remarked: "It's interesting because one of the things your father said was ‘all I want is an apology from this guy’...And the officer in question has said no way, no how." Gates replied: "I just saw that actually for the first time here on this show. I was surprised. I'd actually never seen that before. So yes, I was surprised that he said no way."

Harry Smith and Elizabeth Gates, CBS Smith concluded the segment by observing: "Your father has said that this is going to change – your father has written books, stacks of books this big, the PBS specials and everything else, talking about race. But has – is going to change how he looks at this from now on." Gates added: "Yeah. I think every time you're discriminated against in any way, you know, for Muslims, blacks, you know, women, gays, whoever it is – I think whenever you're discriminated against, it changes the tone."

In contrast to Smith, earlier in the show co-host Maggie Rodriguez questioned White House advisor David Axelrod on President Obama weighing in on Gates’ arrest: "The President said last night that he believes that Cambridge, Massachusetts police quote, ‘acted stupidly’ when they arrested Harvard University scholar Henry Louis Gates at his own home. The President wasn't there. Do you think he went too far in claiming the police acted stupidly?...he wasn't there, so was he right to assume that's how it went down?"

Here is the transcript of Smith’s interview with Elizabeth Gates:

7:00AM TEASE:

HARRY SMITH: Last night President Obama, during his news conference, was asked about Henry Louis Gates and his arrest in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He had a response. We are going to talk to Skip Gates' daughter a little bit later on this morning.

7:14AM TEASE:

MAGGIE RODRIGUEZ: Up ahead this morning, more controversy and debate after the arrest of Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates. As you heard, the President has even weighed in. We'll be speaking with Gates' daughter ahead.

7:17AM SEGMENT:

HARRY SMITH: The controversy around Henry Louis Gates' arrest keeps growing even though the prominent Harvard professor no longer faces charges. CBS News correspondent Michelle Gielan has the story.

MICHELLE GIELAN: Disorderly conduct charges may have been dropped against Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, arrested last week after he forced his way into his own home, but the incident is far from over. Wednesday night the President was asked his reaction. At first, he made light of it.

BARACK OBAMA: If I was trying to jigger – well, I guess this is my house now. So it probably wouldn't happen. But let's say my old house in Chicago. Here I'd get shot.

GIELAN: But then, admitting a bias towards a personal friend, he made his feelings clear.

OBAMA: The Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when they – there was already proof that they were in their own home. There is a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately.

GIELAN: Meanwhile, the police union is standing behind the arresting officer, Sergeant James Crowley, who's refusing Gates' request for an apology.

JAMES CROWLEY: There will be no apology.

UNIDENTIFIED MAN [REPORTER]: Is this now and ever no apology?

CROWLEY: Yes.

GIELAN: Michelle Gielan, CBS News, New York.

SMITH: Joining us now is Professor Gates' daughter Elizabeth, a writer for the DailyBeast.com. Good morning.

ELIZABETH GATES: Good morning, thank you for having me.

SMITH: You talked to your dad?

GATES: Yes, I’ve talked to my dad at length.

SMITH: Is there a way to know what happened in a given moment that would once and for all let us know what it was that made what would have seemed to have been a routine situation not so routine?

GATES: I'm not exactly sure what it was. I wasn't there either. I just know that my father has always been a law-abiding citizen and my father has always been on what he has described as the right side of the law. And I know that whenever he's ever been questioned about anything, he's always been very up front. And I know if somebody came to his door and demanded to see his I.D. he would have been forthright with all the proper documentation immediately.

SMITH: Is there something in this that says, ‘I'm not going to take this’?

GATES: I think after Sergeant Crowley followed him into his home was when he knew that this wasn't going to be standard procedure. And I think that's when, for my father, the tone changed. And I think that's when the defense went up. I think for anybody, you know, who is violated in their own home in that way, I think they would, you know, also call on their own defenses.

SMITH: In speaking with your father, was he hurt by this?

GATES: My father was so sad about this, and again because he's always – you know, my father might be one of the last black men on earth who actually believed in the justice system. You know, my father is a proponent of, you know, intellectualism can help you outrun the – the war on race. And I think the incident last week is a clear indication that that's not yet true.

SMITH: Was his heart broken by it?

GATES: My father's heart – my father’s very sensitive in this way. You know, he believes in following the rules, and when they're broken, it kind of disturbs his sense of security. And yeah, he was deeply heartbroken. I was not surprised, but he was very surprised.

SMITH: It's interesting because one of the things your father said was ‘all I want is an apology from this guy.’

GATES: Simple human apology.

SMITH: And the officer in question has said no way, no how.

GATES: I just saw that actually for the first time here on this show. I was surprised. I'd actually never seen that before. So yes, I was surprised that he said no way.

SMITH: Your father has said that this is going to change – your father has written books, stacks of books this big, the PBS specials and everything else, talking about race. But has – is going to change how he looks at this from now on.

GATES: Yeah. I think every time you're discriminated against in any way, you know, for Muslims, blacks, you know, women, gays, whoever it is – I think whenever you're discriminated against, it changes the tone.

SMITH: Elizabeth, thanks very much for being here this morning.

GATES: It was my pleasure.

SMITH: We sure appreciate it.

GATES: Thanks.

I get it...

This is one of those stories that only has one side....

"Live for yourself...there's no one else more worth living for.
Begging hands and bleeding hearts will only cry out for more"- Rush--Anthem

YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW

What an idiot this twit is.

She wasn't there. The officer , who was ready to risk his life to save her racist father's ass, is the victim of racism here.

To presuppose that his actions were motivated by race, ...it really is sickening.

And ol' Harry, who would run like a little girl if he were followed by a group of black youths, but would be totally relaxed if it was a group of Jewish kids with yamukas, for example, feels so guilty, precisely because he KNOWS he has the same bias that any rational person has.

This is getting so old. If this stuck up "professor" would have done as he was told by an officer of the law, it would have been resolved. Instead he almost dares this guy to do his job, knowing he can play the race card...sickening

Racial Profiling

This case is all about racial profiling. Two people participated in the racial profiling. The Professor and the President. Both used assumed data that they had collected over there lifetime about racial profiling and applied them to the WHITE officer. They didn't treat it as individual event instead they assumed the motive of the officer and proceed with out any facts to support their acts. Is that not what the supposally stand against. And if the roles were reversed with the label of racists apply? Just a simple question. The statistical claim the president made about the prevelance of racial profiling; isn't that the same type of information that an officer knows about who commits crimes that he wants the officers to ignore. How is this different?

I think whenever you're

I think whenever you're discriminated against, it changes the tone."

Yes it does and Im sure Officer Crawley is relly peeved right now.  When are we gonna see justice.  Wait for it and we will die in the waiting room.

Discriminated against,

Discriminated against, because he was asked to show some ID proving that it was his house?  The cop, in the same situation, wouldn't have asked a white man for ID?

my father might be one of the last black men on earth who actually believed in the justice system.

Oh, right. He knew the cops had a job to do; that's why he was so cooperative.

I'm curious...

We haven't gotten around to it yet, though I'm sure Rahm's got it scheduled for sometime next year- that being "education reform". We know it's coming; benefitting large unions is number one on the Progressive platform. But I'm wondering just what we'll be teaching our children and grandchildren to become if the country remains dominated by Progressive thought.

We've got greedy bankers and stock traders. Stupid white-collar automobile executives incapable of designing vehicles that Americans want. Doctors would rather snatch the tonsils out of a kid with a minor cough than treat the child with OTC medication. Not much has been said so far, but obviously corporate heads for the major new-homes builders are greedy, economy-wreckers as well. The Progressive-way is to regulate activity and salary of anyone making a nice living. So, just what will our high schools and colleges be producing?

More sub-standard school teachers? Atheletes? Where's the incentive to be anything white-collar under this administration? Who want's to be a doctor that can't treat patients outside of the "prescribed and affordable treatment plan"? Who wants to land an executive position in any free-market corporation that may or may not fail at times? And now, who wants to be a police officer?

Maybe the President should disarm our civil defense forces. Maybe if police officers were only allowed to roll up on an unknown person after a call for a potential break-in with only a handshake and a smile, all violent crime would suddenly cease to exist- much the way terrorism has all but vanished now that Mr. Apology has charmed them all into submission. /sarc off

Can we get come grown-ups back in the White House, please?

Oh, I know this post was about that goofball Harry Smith, but he's not worth commenting on.

Blah blah blah... O made

Blah blah blah...

O made a fool of himself last night regarding this issue, he has caused more harm than not as far as I am concerned regarding any support from a heck of a lot in law enforcement...bringing Gate's daughter on isn't going to help a thing Harry.

my father might be one of the last black men on earth who actually believed in the justice system."

Just that statement alone is hilarious!

As always, O and his racist buddies, intentionally trying to inflict more racism, when the situation had zilch to do with race in the first place.

They thrive on it...they depend on it, they will never stop with this until someday, enough is really going to be enough...and the voters speak.

Was Gates heart broke, he caused this himself....heck, what about Crowley?

bt..

Indeed that was a good statement to focus upon - sure as heck doesn't say much about all the black men (oh, and women) in our legal justice system, does it?

Last night, as our adolescent president spoken spoke on this subject, I posted this comment:

He's really breaking the rules here for what is said by officials - prior to a legitimate investigation of the facts.

Historically, especially in the begining moments of a sensitive legal matter, we would see more experienced people in power (notably those elected official with a lawyers degree and members of the bar) say, "I can't comment on that case," or "I won't comment on that case." When they have personal connections to the persons involved, they are even less inclined to open up their traps in public.

Where is the MSM on this? Obama should not be commenting.

Hi Gary... No, he

Hi Gary...

No, he shouldn't have made any comment regarding this situation, especially when he said he didn't know all of the details etc....yet he stupidly did....and like Rush said, that was the only time he was really animated last night.

Nothing like an agenda...and I cannot help but wonder who set this question up?

Hey BT, have an airsick bag handy?

Harry Smith wondered: "Is there something in this that says, ‘I'm not going to take this’?...In speaking with your father, was he hurt by this?...Was his heart broken by it?"

Oh, pul-leeeeze! Harry Smith's bleeding-heart, soap-operish bloviating is like trying to digest a pound of sugar on an empty stomach! He makes no effort to question Gates' behavior, ignores the fact that the FOP is backing Crowley 100% or that he is an instructor in profiling - just whines and winnies about poor old Gates and his "broken heart"!

Excuse me while I lose my lunch...

If I had the chance

I'd put Harry Smith in a police uniform and make him patrol the streets (on foot) of a predominately black neighborhood in Los Angeles at midnight. I wonder if he'd check his 'quota requirements' before drawing his pistol when trouble starts? Gotta be fair Harry... you putz.

"What a revoltin' development this is!"

Draw his pistol??? Surely

Draw his pistol??? Surely you jest.  That's kind of hard to do when you're running with your skirt up over your head.

I think wetting his pants would be part of that process.

I wonder if Elizabeth offered to speak to Smith's mama outside.

Apologize for nothing

A reasonable man would immediatly thank a cop for checking his identity, as one would when asked to show I.D. when purchasing with a credit card. No difference.

The media has given more fuel to racial tensions and more a attention to gates to push his cause.

"A reasonable man

"A reasonable man would..."  No doubt about it.  But, unfortunately, we're not dealing with reasonable people, we're dealing with liberals.

Cha-ching

This article needs a barf alert.

To Gates this incident is the opportunity of a lifetime and we can be certain he sees it as exactly that. I say this will lead to a Presidential appointment to a new Czarship. At the very least it means a big-bucks civil lawsuit.

Yep...I've heard the

Yep...I've heard the law-suit BS too...from Gates, implying he is mulling it over...sure there have been plenty of knocks on his door too...Morris Dees and the Southern Poverty Law Center trial lawyers most likely in line too.

My thoughts exactly as I read this article.  I've been a little queezy since I heard about the story.  My intestinal discomfort took a big spike last night when I heard the Community Organizer misstate the facts of the case so he could condemn the police for behaving stupidly.  Now this.  It's just pathetic.  I sure hope 2012 will be the end of the main one behaving stupidly.

who's the racist?

You know, if I were "caught" breaking into my own home, the FIRST thing I would do is hasten to identify myself. What's racist about that?

Harry Smith is such a panty-waist.  Does he ever listen to himself?

Just look at how much

Just look at how much freaken media attention - now Mr. Gates's daughter is being given airtime - the Henry Gates, Jr., Sgt. Crowley and the Cambridge Police Department are getting over the "alledged racist and racism" incident in Cambridge.  It's all over the place evry hour on the hour.  Yet, the Sen. Boxer and Henry Alford incident in the halls of Congress gets close to nothing.

Oh, spare us the plaintive and pretentious language you use to hide the fact that your father made an horses ass out of himself in front of the world and is trying to hide behind the increasingly flimsy shield of "Racism!" to cover for his disgusting antics.

It would be poetic justice if your father ever desperately needs a cop but has to wait while the police department summons a black cop so they won't get charged with "racism".

Harry is such a putz.

Listen to Harry talk about a guy who was asked to show his ID like the police turned a water cannon on him and then called him the n-word.  Then he sits there like a clown when Gates's daughter says "my father might be one of the last black men on earth who actually believed in the justice system."   as if there was some sort of kangaroo court trial held to convict her father.

Like father like daughter.  They both are reveling in all the racism swirling about them.  They are loving every minute of it.  The man picked a fight with a cop then cries racism when he gets cuffed.

Hey Janet Napolitano...I'm proud to be a Right-winger.

you know

This woman is "you know" a moron. She couldn't put together 2 sentences without a "you know". Her father is an elitist scumbag who got just what he wanted, but nowhere near what he deserved. Now PBS (pure bull shit television) is going to fund a documentary video by and for professor bigit, at the taxpayers expense! This could be another step toward Comrade President Obama's WaterLoo proving beyond doubt he is a RACIST with the incendiary cheap shots at the Cambridge police department he made on last night's Wednesday night with "0" weekly program. This just may be the shot heard round the world.

Did Caroline Kennedy and

Did Caroline Kennedy and her go to the same school?  You know.

Nice of CBS to present only one side of the story.  Think Harry's panties would get all knotted up if he was forced to interview the arresting Officer?

"You know, my father might be one of the last black men on earth who actually believed in the justice system

Jeez, that's nice. Well, I knew there was more to this, that he had mouthed off or something. It could not be a case of just standing in your house while black. I bet he let the police in, too--he didn't have to do THAT. This guy has a lot to learn.

If I had to break into my

If I had to break into my own home, and was confronted by the Police, I would carefully reach into my pocket and produce my ID. Then I would thank the officer for not just taking my word for it and for responding to protect my property.

After reading the police report, from both responders. It is clear that Gates was not very appreciative that the Police showed up at his residence at all. Furthermore, he showed an utter lack of respect and downright disdain toward the officer.

Having not been there, but read the report, and seeing the results of such, now snowballing out of control. I am going to have to say that an appology is definatly needed and should be rendered  immediatly to the OFFICER for the treatment and verbal abuse he recieved from a citizen he was there to protect.

yep

I'd also thank him for showing restraint by not tasing or pepper spraying me.

Have you seen the look of hate on Gates' face in that photo of him standing on his porch? If someone is in my face screaming at me with that kind of look, I wouldn't be thinking that this is any kind of friendly debate. I'd be worried that he was tweaking on meth or something.

I also would have never cuffed him in the front, as he is in the picture.

Sam: "I hurt somebody's feelings once"

Once or twice in Vegas...

I got locked out of my room.(went for ice)   When hotel security showed up the first thing they asked for was ID.  It was in the room and he made me show it right away.  Then he said  "Thank you sir and thank you for staying at Mandalay Bay " and turned and left.   That is precisely how easy it could have been for Prof. Gates.

" if Republicans are able to stop Barack Obama on health care, 'it will be his Waterloo, it will break him....-Sen. Jim DeMint

Know what the real problem is?

Your father is a racist SOB that was looking for a opportunity to play the race card. Like Jackson and Sharpton, he is nothing but a race hustler. Crowley owes your father NOTHING!!!! In fact his worthless ass should have been thrown in jail for a few days to cool his ass off.

That cop risks his life daily everytime he puts on that uniform, for your scumbag father and you for that matter to treat him in this manner is reprehensible and just lets the rest of know who the true racists are in this country

Just because the Idiot in Chief, Obama called Crowley stupid without knowing the circumstances just indicates how much Obama is out of touch with reality and shows his racism as well.

People like your father and yourself keep racism alive in this country and to keep it in the news, it is your mission in life to scream racism where none exists, to punish hard working  individuals such as this cop simply because they are white.

There might come a day when you or your father might have to depend on a white police officer for your very lives and he or she might lay down their life to protect you and for the sake of your conscience I hope will be able to live with yourself afterwards.

"You know, my father is a

Yes, he's a big intellectualist:

The heck with his heart, his head is already broken.

Willful Ignorance

Anyone with a 6th grade reading level can look at the police report and see that Mr. Gates provoked the entire incident.

"I May Be Changed By War, But I Will Not Be Defeated By It" - Audie Murphy

Dirty Harry

Listen to the black rap and the hot mic Jesse Jackson and then tell me there is an emotionally scarred black strawman.

Duke Lacrosse, Jena 6, and now Henry Gates

The lib media and career black race-baiters seem desperate to generate high-profile examples of how bad, "just-plain-mean" and racist America is in the 21st century.

This Gates thing is already starting to blow up in their faces (along with Obama's) the way Duke Lacrosse and Jena6 did.   Obama owes the police officer involved a public apology for the sickening and truly ignorant comment he made.

I think this is diffferent

I think this is far different from the Durham and Jena cases. This case, you have the police officer documenting his own questionable conduct. Durham was prosecutorial misconduct, and Jena was a small town caving to the shear weight of national media.
From his own police report, it seems like the officer escalated this situation. He really should have just left. He also has an awful lot of reasoning in that report.
That said, I think Obama's comments only taints the investigation. No one will accept it as fair.

So now we have an entirely different debate, neither of which have a thing to do with the reality. It wasn't racial profiling, and it wasn't proper police procedure. But thats the sides now. TRhe reality is it was a belligerent Gates and it was  Sgt. Crowley with his nose out of joint. But welcome to the Twilight Zone, we'll make it profiling vs. good police work.

Why not Jeb Bush?

From his own police report,

From his own police report, it seems like the officer escalated this
situation.

Mmmm, no. From his own police report, it seems like Gates flew off the handle and escalated the situation the moment a cop dared to ask him for id.

He really should have just left.

He did leave.  And guess what?  Gates followed him and verbally abused him.  Again, "according to his own police report."

He also has an awful lot of
reasoning in that report.

Have know idea on earth what that means.  "Reason" and "reasoning" is a bad thing these days?  On 2nd thought, in the world of never-ending race-baiting and perpetual victimhood, I guess Reason really doesn't fit.

What it means

The reasoning, or stating why he did certain things is because they aren't proper police procedure, so he is stating why ( reasoning why) he went outside of proper police procedure. Telling Gates he had to come outside to get his name and badge number is going outside of proper police procedure and is escalating the event. Had Gates been mentally ill, this type of behavior by the policeman could have escalated this event to a death. I've seen that happen also. Idiot policemen provoking an obvious mentally ill person. The officer's behavior was provocative, by his own report. Oh he reasons why he had to provoke Gates to come outside, but there is no denying he provoke Gates to follow him outside. Thats why the report reasons why this had to be done (along with reasoning why he had to recruit a civilian and other weird things). According to the report it was for radio communications. Will that wash? If it doesn't the police have a whole lot a 'splaining to do. Gates has the absolute right to ramble like a moron in his own home. The policeman shouldn't have lured him outside to create an incident.

Had the policeman told Gates, "look I can't talk to you while you're yelling at me" and left, then Gates would have no axe to grind. That would've been proper police procedure for deescalating the event. That didn't happen. The policeman invited Gates outside and escalated the event.

By his own admission and report, the policeman states Gates complied with the investigation. He furnished his ID. There better be a damn good reason for escalating this to an arrest, and I really doubt "for radio communications" is going to cut it.

You might want a country where you have to walk on eggs for policemen, but I don't. Thats Iran, not America.

The thing is this has nothing to do with racial profiling or unwarranted attacks on policemen doing their job. This has to do with belligerence meeting cop attitude. As Unsane put it in another thread, when idiots collide.

Why not Jeb Bush?

You're Uninformed, nwahs. Be Humble.

What report did you read, nwahs? The Sgt. clearly conducted a proper investigation. Gates was clearly uncooperative, and initially refused to identify himself. The report then says Gates followed the Sgt. outside and continued his harangue, in front of a crowd, which was in public. That is disorderly conduct/interfering with a police officer.

All of the witnesses will be interviewed extensively. In fact, you can bet that the department's Internal Affairs Division  already has done so. They've already backed up the officer 100%. Obama will be in a position where he should apologize for his impolitic remark at the press conference, but of course he won't.

Nwahs.

Whatever. Care to explain why the 0 felt compelled to opine on that which he stated he knew nothing about, during an infomercial on obamacare?

Oh, that's right, if the 0 couldn't expound on that of which he is ignorant, he wouldn't ever speak.

"This
liberal would be all about socialize -- uh, uh, would be about
basically taking over and the government running all of your companies."-Maxine Waters 2008

He shouldn't have

Obama shouldn't have commented on an open investigation. It taints the investigation. I said that in a couple of posts.

Why not Jeb Bush?

"Telling Gates he had to

"Telling Gates he had to come outside to get his name and badge number
is going outside of proper police procedure and is escalating the event."

Having read your post, I can only conclude 1. You haven't even read the report, and 2.that morons like yourself must write your own report of what happened, and then pretend it's what the original report said. In your version of history, did Columbus ride a unicorn to warn people that Darth Vader was coming?

"Had Gates been mentally ill, this type of behavior by the policeman could have escalated this event to a death."

Gates is mentally ill. That's why he acted like a crazy man over a simple id request.

The officer demonstrated remarkable restraint.

I am certain an officer that actually was bigoted or racist would have immediately arrested Gates when he failed to identify himself, and not waited until Gates had made a bigger A$$ of himself then he already did in the first 2 sentences.

wait, that probably would have been doing his job too.

...how about we have a recall vote on Senator/Congressperson so and so....

More To The Story

The events you described did not happen in a vacuum.

"Durham was prosecutorial misconduct"

And a lying "victim", race baiters stoking flames, and a biased media complicit in spreading malaise.

"Jena was a small town caving to the shear weight of national media"

And lying thugs, race baiters stoking flames, and a biased media complicit in spreading malaise.  The MSM also completely ignored testimony of townspeople, including a clergyman from the community, about the misinformation concerning the state of racial relationships in the community, the facts behind the infamous tree, and the actual events surrounding the assault.

"it seems like the officer escalated this situation"

How so?

"it wasn't proper police procedure"

I do not know at this point.  What is your proof?

***Edit***

Just an FYI - Posted this comment before seeing the reply (Krendler's) similar to my own.  Though there is some small overlap, our posts are different enough that I won't delete or modify the content.

omg, she needs to shutup

anybody that has read the police report, can clearly see that by the police officers description, it was her racist father that was making a serious ass of himself, since I have read the report, I feel as thou I can actually comment on this. Obviously she has not, or is not willing to believe a white cops word over her fathers.

...how about we have a recall vote on Senator/Congressperson so and so....

A white cop...

And a hispanic backup who heard enough bits of the conversation to validate the "white cop."

Maybe this is part of the plan... no more white cops... oh, wait.

"Civilian National Defense Force" as strong as our military...

ACORN taking census

Paramilitary Obama supporters in high schools (youTube videos)

Panthers getting away with intimidation at polling places

A SCOTUS nominee who screwed white fireman unconstitionally

Oh, nevermind, it's just my imagination, running away with me...

This may be one of those Massachusetts Freezes over moments

I just wonder if this may be a turning point in which we see massachusetts move to the right?

Otherwise..I am not buying the Michelle Gates/Henry Gates story. And i think neither are their neighbors.

Wrong organ

If you read the police report, it's obvious that Gates' brain was broken, not his heart. The man acted like a boob and was treated accordingly.

You Know, You Know

How come the children of supposedly intelligent people can't carry on a proper conversation?  How many times does this woman say "You know"?  Not too long ago we saw that Caroline Kennedy couldn't speak without saying "you know".  Where are these people educated?

Good point

I was just going to axt myself that, when I realized that it was probably some Ivy League school.

Some parents are getting seriously ripped off.

Sam: "I hurt somebody's feelings once"

well look...

..we all knew that POTUS would set back race relations 30 years.

Funny it's only taking him six months.

Just more of the same

My stepson went to a university to work on his Engineering degree. He had to take a class, a black history class no less...required you know to graduate. The course was written by the profesor, and the text book was written by the same professor..nice business if you can get it. Such a deal you know.

He was failed due to him writing a paper denouncing and proving what was taught to be fraudulent. He of course found out what most learn in college today; don't rock the boat, say what they say and you will get your grade.

When 96+% of certain people vote for the same man, you know that racism is in fact alive and well in our country. Unfortunately for those 96%+, it is them who are the racists. Every time I hear the word racism, my mind just closes down more to it. Now I just smile and go on my way.

Is Harry Smith married?

I do not know much about Harry Smith, but if the dude is married, I feel sorry for his wife. Not much testestrone in Harry.

Provoking then playing the

Provoking then playing the victim, and the President backs it with the race card. When Barry referred to "we" meaning their race I was appalled.

An Author from the 1870's in Montana made this comment: “…in the beginning they (the Spanish) enslaved the Indian with hellish brutality. But they could not make a success of that because the Indian was different from the Negro; he was always a free man and would die rather than be a slave.”

The problem Blacks have with victimhood and legalism can only be solved by themselves. They've been accomodated for a long time. It is too bad the arrest didn't end up in Court.

What a Crock!!!

This whole thing was not about race until the professer opened his mouth.  As a cop let me say that this police officer did everything right.  It was a burglery call.  He didn't know this man from Adam  and he sure as hell didn't if anybody was in the house.

Officer safty comes first.

What you have is man with hurt pride and hurt feelings taking it out on the police for doing their job.

Was his heart broken? BULLS$#T!!!

"Obama lied, transparency died!" Michelle Malkin

Gates

Gates makes his living being an oppressed black man in a white society. Why is it that every university has to have a "Black Studies Program"? If you read the crap in the writings from people like Gates the language almost seems to be something besides English. It is rather like a new language and lexicon has been invented.

gates

what i want to know is, why, in the united states of america, the president is denied a simple police report, (that everyone here has read), to prepare for a canned question, asked on national t.v.? poor racist bugger stuck his foot in his mouth bigtime. shame on you gibbs, should have briefed da boss.

This POTUS committed

This POTUS committed slander and probably a hate crime. Where is his punishment?

You support the troops by supporting the mission! If you don't support the mission, have the guts to say you don't support the troops.

Obama: Not my President. Ever.

Racial profiling in reverse

This situation boils down to both President Obama and Professor Gates engaging in racial profiling.  Both see a white police officer and the immediate assumption is that the police officer, being white, is a racist.

The White House has "qualified" POTUS' statement but as the facts begin to emerge, how long will it be before President Obama throws Professor Gates under the bus so he can get past this?

Harry Smith Is As Stupid As Keith Olbermann

Sgt. Crowley was clearing doing his job properly, and Mr. Gates was in the midst of a hissy fit. The Sgt. was leaving when Gates came outside to continue berating the Sgt. without letup, in front of a crowd. This is disorderly conduct. This is interfering with a police investigation. It was the lawful arrest of a citizen who'd lost his temper and was unreasonably defying and abusing a police officer.

The D.A. didn't issue a charge. That only means he/she gave Gates a break, not that it was an unlawful arrest.

Harry Smith either didn't read the report, or he didn't understand what he'd read. Either way, he is a perfectly stupid progressive sycophant who should be fired for incompetence. He and Keith Olbermann could be the Huntley-Brinkley of MSNBC.

Isn't it interesting that there is so much outrage...

... over silliness like this while there is total silence about the hundreds of black teenagers gunned down each month in DC, Chicago, LA, Dallas etc.

Pathetic and inexcusable.

Point well taken.... This

Point well taken....

This subject also conveniently takes away all the criticisms O would have received in some of the msm with his pathetic pressser in regards to O-Care last night.

Doubling down on stupid is not a particularly good idea. ~Andrew Breitbart

→ Truly interesting

And it was a Chicago reporter who asked the Gates question.

I guess it's OK with Obama if black boys and men are killed by each other.

Gates doesn't just want an

Gates doesn't just want an "apology" from the white officer, Gates wants the blood from his veins, Gates wants white people to disappear from planet Earth. What I want however, is for Harry Smith to remove his lips from Gates' ass.

→ nada

But it's an alternate lifestyle.

We should be more inclusive.

This case is all about racial profiling!!

This case is all about racial profiling. Two people participated in the racial profiling. The Professor and the President. Both used assumed data that they had collected over there lifetime about racial profiling and applied them to the WHITE officer. They didn't treat it as individual event instead they assumed the motive of the officer based on his shin color and proceed with out any facts to support their acts.

Is that not what they claim to stand for?

And if the roles were reversed with the label of racists apply? Just a simple question.

The statistical claim the president made about the prevelance of racial profiling; isn't that the same type of information that an officer knows about who commits crimes, yet is he supposed to ignore.

How is this different?

They made an assumption based on the color of the man's skin. Thats racism. Your reply lessor Professor!

Crowley (Ricci) was "Sotomayored"

Where have we seen this before:

New Haven CT, now Cambridge, MA

Black "victim"

White and Latino Officers (Police) (Firefighters)

Mr Gates "You Know You Dead AZZ Wrong"

It really isn't fair. I want a race card too.I belong to a race of people, where is my card? Oh, I see, I can't have one besause I'm white! Take me away, officer.

Exactly who was Gates.......

...talking to on the phone while this was happening, when he was yelling at Crowley about how he "didn't know who he was messing with!!"???  Huh, Huh, Huh!!?

This stinks beyond the pale..and Gates is just another example of "You can take the man out of the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out o the man!"

Yo Mamma

Gecks

African American

Looks like this "professor" of Black History actually believes the crap he is shoveling in his classroom. We should rue the day we let these creeps abandon American History and replace it with politically correct nonsense and the ten-cent "hero". As with everything "liberal", their fantacies are too often played out in the real world. The "liberal" story states that a black man stood up to a bigoted white cop. The truth is that he broke the law, made a fool of himself, and showed his own bigotry. BTW, Why did he single out the white cop to sream at? A black and an hispanic cop were there too. Who is the "racist" here? "Liberal" lies are destroying this country. The only good part of this incident is that it demonstrated black biogtry, in Barry Soetoro as well as in Gates.

P.S. Like Barry, Harry is an adolescent in a man's body.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

intellectualism can help outrun the war on race

"my father is a proponent of, you know, intellectualism can help you outrun the – the war on race"

Oh really, is that why he has some BS degree in a made up over-politicized phony academic discipline? That's not intellectualism. Get a real degree you race baiter!!!

Obama: 'I screwed up'--We're going to be seeing this a lot.

in your own home

The thing that is irritating me about this whole fiasco is the "he was arrested in his own home" thing.  Does this mean that we are to believe that no one should ever be arrested in their homes, especially if they're black? It's ridiculous !

Being in your home doesn't excuse you from illegal or inappropriate behavior; people are killed "in their own homes" every day.

Gates has no respect for authority and he obviously hates white people.  Why else would he have thrown out the "your momma" phrase?  This is such sterotypical black behavior that he should be ashamed of himself. If he's educated and enlightened, he should no better than anyone how to act in public and dealing with law enforcement. Being black AND well known doesn't automatically exclude you from obeying the law. Or does it ?

Harryietta Smith

What a wimp.  Take off the skirt and quit apologizing for other white people.  You can apologize and ass-kiss all you want but you speak for no one else.  Harry Smith, self-hating white gurl.  I'm sick of her acting "stupidly."

By the way, all of you white folks who voted for the chosen 1 to prove how enlightened you are......Good job.   The goodwill lasted about 3 weeks.  Thanks for nothing.
