On Sunday’s CBS 60 Minutes, commentator Andy Rooney read from some viewer letters: "It's always fun to read the letters people send, I get a lot of them, although, to be honest, if I took all the letters seriously I wouldn't ever say anything again. I get quite a few bad letters and, of course, I pay least attention to those. I don't want you to see me cry."
Some of those "bad letters" came from viewers who criticized Rooney’s and the media’s pro-Obama bias: "Thomas Overley writes from Oceanside, California. He's mad because he thinks I like President Obama. 'Very sorry to see someone I respected contribute to this mass media love affair,' Tom says. Well, to tell you the truth Mr. Overley, I do like Obama but I didn't think you'd notice. Todd, from Las Cruces, New Mexico, says 'the reason I don't hear about the people who hate Barack Obama is because the press has put a muzzle on them.' I don't know about that Todd. I show the producer my piece before it goes on the air every week and he'll tell me it isn't any good but he never puts a muzzle on me."
At the end of the January 25 broadcast, Rooney declared: "Maybe I'm reading the wrong newspapers and listening to the wrong people, but I'm not hearing anyone who hates Barack Obama." Well, apparently Rooney has found some Obama critics, in his own audience.

Why does Christmas only come once a year? I hate that. What is soup anyway? It's not really a drink, but it's also not really a meal. Some people say it's hot in the summer... I don't really understand that.
End Andy Rooney Voice: now.
When a liberal speaks, the truth is busy elsewhere.
(snicker)
March 30, 2009 - 17:29 ET by supercon...and why do they call it French toast? It's not really from France and it's not really toast now is it?
Because with a name like Obama... you know it has to be good.
It's taken a while, decades
March 30, 2009 - 17:35 ET by RR GOPIt's taken a while, decades in fact, but little by little Americans are learning about these media icons and where their ideologies lie. I guess in retrospect it was painfully obvious, but they seemed to have, in a strange way, disguised it pretty well.
When all we had were the Murrows, the Rathers, the Cronkites, etc., for our news there was no way to tell otherwise because when awash in a sea of Liberalism, you couldn't discern anything else, and the only alternative they 'gave' us was that of race-bating Nazis and Klansmen.
They could easily attack Nixon, because of Watergate he was indefensible. They couldn't stick up for Carter in the end because of the Hostage Crisis. They couldn't attack Reagan because he was too popular...but discredited the Moral Majority movement, with much help from the inside in the way of the sundry evangelical leaders who were corrupt and immoral. Bush Sr. carried some of Reagan's popularity with him, and besides, was out in four years.
But, they let loose when Slick Willy came along and would only attack him because he strayed from the Leftist agenda in order to stay in the White House.
Now we can see more clearly what they really are...Liberals, Marxists, Socialists...
One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).
The liberals/MSM even outdo
March 30, 2009 - 18:35 ET by MANstreammediaThe liberals/MSM even outdo themselves with the talking point that the biased liberal media doesn't exist.
It's the demographics
March 30, 2009 - 17:40 ET by slickwillie2001If you ever wonder why Rooney is still at work, look at CBS 60 Minutes's demographics. He has a loyal following of Archie Bunker types that watch 60 Minutes faithfully and make up a large part of the audience. Who will outlast who?
I actually like Rooney.
March 30, 2009 - 17:59 ET by SpaceManSpiffI actually like Rooney. His journalism days are long over and he only does his 5 minute bit, once a week. On that note, I don't think it's fair to criticize his pro-Obama attitude. It is HIS commentary, after all. I'm not even certain he takes anything seriously anymore, not Obama, not his viewers, certainly not himself.
I'd almost bet that his quote, "Maybe I'm reading the wrong newspapers and listening to the wrong people, but I'm not hearing anyone who hates Barack Obama.", is his own tongue-in-cheek way of saying, "I hear you, but it's still just my opinion".
When The One falls a little more out of favor, Rooney will poke him a time or two.

No, Andy.

March 31, 2009 - 00:51 ET by danybhoy"Maybe I'm reading the wrong newspapers & listening to the wrong people, but I'm not hearing anyone who hates Barack Obama".
That tells me ALL I NEED TO KNOW about this idiot, who is WAAAAAAY past his "sell by date". What papers does he read? I'm guessing the NYSlimes, the WashingtonCompost, maybe the NYPost-by accident every so often if he can find one already read so he does'nt have to pay for it. Who would be the types of people he would listen to? I have a had time believing that the circles he travels in & those he comes into contact with every day in Manhattan provide much in the way of "diversity of thoughts & opinions" to Mr.Rooney. The biggest conflict he comes across during his average day is between sports fans in New York. New York is more or less a 1 PARTY STATE. I doubt if Rooney ever really look for a different POV.

Only idiots, fools, and the mainstream media likes obama.
Try getting oout more often. In fact, wander into fly over country and stop in any small to medium sized town or city and ask the local truck driver, store clerk, or WalMart shopper.
You may find the real world.... But I doubt you would understand it.

March 30, 2009 - 21:43 ET by RD Kingbut I just dont think that everyone in the media likes maobama, I have to think that a small percentage are lying just to keep their jobs, which by the way he controls, the only other conclusion is they are idiots. The more I think on it maybe they are idiots, never mind.
Yes Andy. It is called the liberal media echo chamber.
March 31, 2009 - 00:24 ET by JWFbut I'm not hearing anyone who hates Barack Obama
The liberal media echo chamber. That is the criticism and why you are not hearing any negatives about Obama.
Of course, it could just be senility in your case.
