On Friday’s CBS Early Show, co-host Harry Smith discussed a pro-Obama video created by actor/director Ron Howard with fellow co-host Maggie Rodriguez: " You ever look at the -- Will Ferrell's website?...Well, there's some pretty interesting stuff on there from time to time...Look at -- take a look at this." In the video, posted on Will Ferrell’s website Funny or Die, Howard plays some of his past well-known television roles, Opie from the Andy Griffith Show and Richie Cunningham from Happy Days:
RON HOWARD: When I'm a grown-up, I sure would like to vote for somebody as good as Mr. Obama.
ANDY GRIFFITH: Well, if you stay healthy and strong, avoid any felonies and stay away from the butterfly ballot, I bet you'll get a chance.
HENRY WINKLER: And after we vote, you want to double date?
HOWARD: Yeah.
WINKLER: My friend Janet Powcowski she's got this girl friend from Alaska.
HOWARD: You mean the girl who shoots moose?
WINKLER: Wait a minute. Shoots moose? I thought she said she was loose.
At the end of the clip, Rodriguez did her best Fonzie impersonation: "Heeey," and declared: "That's cool." Smith observed: "So you don't have to guess where -- what side of the political fence Ron Howard falls on, right?" Rodriguez replied: "Yeah, they lean left. They're Barack Obama supporters. What's cool about that is that looks like it came out of the show. They look exactly the same."
Here is the full transcript of the segment:

SMITH: Yeah. Well, there's some pretty interesting stuff on there from time to time. Remember the Paris Hilton for president- ?
RODRIGUEZ: Of course.

RODRIGUEZ: Oh, I've seen that.
SMITH: As of today.
RODRIGUEZ: It's hysterically funny.

October 24, 2008 - 18:31 ET by BlazerAs far as political plugs went, on the surface, I felt it was pretty good natured and it added a little nostalgic fun. It was great seeing "Opie and Andy" and "Ritchie and The Fonz" back together again for a moment and I'm sure a lot of folks felt the same way.
But then again, there also lies my problem. Those shows tended to represent traditional working class American conservative values and I feel Mr. Howard was arrogant and selfish in swiping that bit of apple-pie off the table and using it for his own ideaoligical preferences.
I must have missed the episode when Howard was accepted into "The Leopord Lodge", for the first time in her life Marion was truly proud of her country, and the ones where Andy and Howard were totally accepting of the fact that Opie and Ritchie were paling around with domestic terrorists and when they were looking for some money from pop so they could go and get their girlfriends a late term abortion.

October 24, 2008 - 20:01 ET by RESTLESS 1I, like you, felt the nostalgia. However, it felt somewhat hollow at the same time. I can't, for the life of me, believe the "characters" believe what they are saying. That, to me, divorced the "characters" from the actors, and thus rendered the whole endeavor useless, IMHO.

October 24, 2008 - 19:23 ET by AllRightyI was still a young-un back in the 80s when he first came to play for Denver. I lived through the rotten years. I remember the Orange Crush, too! I used to bleed blue and orange.
I was a grown up (sort of) by the time Denver won that first beloved Superbowl. I cried. It replays in my mind. Remember that awesome cartwheel Elway did?
I'm the only girl in my family, and during the back-to-backs, I was on the phone with my Dad long distance marvelling over the experience. Both of my brothers sold out for Dallas. I am my father's favorite son, I say!
Anyway, here's McCain's new commercial hit: "You do it your way... we'll do it Elway!"
I did, talk to John Elway's uncle on the phone once. I saw him in the phone book in the same town I lived in. He was a really nice man!

October 24, 2008 - 23:41 ET by AllRightyYou sound like you're talking about Peyton Manning and not John Elway.
Actually, Elway was drafted by the Colts. He did pitch a fit (punny) and got to go to Denver. Over the years, he had either a good D and bad O or vice versa. I truly did like Dan Reeves. Ol' Dan pulled it out with a new team, though.
Shanahan came over to Denver and it took a few years before the Superbowl wins, so I don't think it was a matter of coaching arguments, or they'd surely have won right away, don't ya think?
Shanahan is a talented coach, for sure. He has that time management thing down to a T. Denver's biggest problems at the moment are: inexperience on the part of the quarterback (who reminds me a good deal of Elway in the early years, truthfully) and the turnover rate with the running backs. They seemed to be picking them out of the stands for a while. It sure doesn't help when you have to replace a veteran team, either.

October 24, 2008 - 23:36 ET by RESTLESS 1Hey! At least I posted my retraction right here in the open. I could have done like the msm and posted it in a non-descript forum somewhere. :)

October 24, 2008 - 23:44 ET by AllRightyHa! Restless1! I would have caught you, eventually.
Actually, Aikman has done some really nice things, post-football. I'll bet he might be a McCain supporter, although I'm not saying he is. He read my favorite author (Dr. Suess) to kids at the Whitehouse! Sounds like a good enough guy...
I watched Opie's video
October 24, 2008 - 19:41 ET by killbill2And it's hard to dislike the guy, or Henry Winkler for that matter... I grew up watching that show. But his argument???
Change... for the sake of... change? Just another advocate who's bought the Obama marketing... nothing about character, issues, or policy.
Will Ferrell's website?...
October 24, 2008 - 20:07 ET by JPR1Interesting stuff there huh?
This is where the "Most Trusted Name in News" gets some of its best stories?

October 24, 2008 - 20:09 ET by RESTLESS 1I think you have summed it up just right.

Thanks R1
October 24, 2008 - 20:43 ET by JPR1I waste a lot of time surfing the web but I've never landed on Will Farrells site. Whatever I've been missing I'm sure I'll live without.
Come to think of it, bet I haven't been to CNNs site more than half dozen times this year. Completely unnecessary.

October 24, 2008 - 20:55 ET by RESTLESS 1With this thread came my first time at having the...umm..."pleasure" of visiting farrell's site too.
I usually don't stray far from NB, or Townhall, except when I feel like introducing some truth to the liberal hordes. :)

My personal message to Ron on Will Farell's site
October 24, 2008 - 21:16 ET by CANCON1Ron: Loose, Moose? That passes for funny? Clever? Insulting and sexist maybe huh. You of the great Liberal brain power. Condesending elistism is so attractive. What do you think this is, some play on the past. You as some Kid, Henry as the Fonz. A play to those who grew up with you and now will just willingly accept your endorsment propaganda short? National socialism had it place in the 30's or did your film education not include anything before your were born. Ron, stay behaind the camera, you seem to excel there. You knew your place was not in front of it and proved yourself to be very self aware with this propaganda piece. Have fun on the 5th when your messiah, is not there and you can cry with the egotisitcal million people that the "great leader" will assemble for his crowning. Henry, should stay real real close to Sandler as that seems to be his meal ticket these days. Good luck to you. Such a weakness of mind, to not even have any consideration of the geopolital environment of the past 8 years and just say " it was bad" makes me wonder if you have any conception of politics beyond what your producer friend next door, the next guy with the financing you need or some commie that was tutoring you on the set at 15 told you. Grow up child. Go thank a soldier.
It doesn't have to be Todd.
October 24, 2008 - 20:23 ET by Mike HammerIt doesn't have to be Todd. Just let them say that with any conservative Man in the room.
This is all good and fine, but what about Floyd
October 24, 2008 - 21:23 ET by Carl KolchakAll I know is that Howard McNear aka Floyd, would be a much better president than Obama. Pre-stroke Floyd was so funny, and nobody comes up with a better beauty pagent song than him. Don't forget he could also play a mean trombone.
I've seen both Winkler amd
October 24, 2008 - 21:32 ET by Eileen RightI've seen both Winkler amd Howard in person and both are, shall we say short in stature. I am sure they relate with the "victims" of the world after a life time of "Stand up when you say that" jokes. As for Andy, never liked the wuss-a-fied, pansy ass and don't see how he lasted as long as he did...
Sorry if this offends any "Little People" out there.
uhh I think that is a violation of Geneva codes
October 24, 2008 - 21:37 ET by Carl KolchakI think it might be a violation of the Geneva Accords, to say something disparaging about Andy Griffith. In my opinion, the "Andy Griffith" show is arguably the greatest show ever. How about Ernest T Bass for President over Obama?
"It's me it's me it's Ernest T"
You may be right.
October 24, 2008 - 21:49 ET by CANCON1I really liked that show too. I guess , you know when there is such dissapointment in peoples behavior, you sometimes react a little harshly. Hoolywood types are the only people I am aware of that can "actually" use the illusion they create. Here is my illusion, what you believe I am like and how I think, then the reality of the shallowness is exposed, the illusion is no longer real, the man behind the curtain is as weak minded and easily swayed as the masses.
Who you gonna call? Ki
October 25, 2008 - 00:04 ET by Eileen RightWho you gonna call? Ki Ban-moon or who ever holds the Silly Putty mallet this week of so called leadership of the EU. Andy's always been a wuss, deal with it.

October 24, 2008 - 22:03 ET by Carl KolchakAndy was cool! How about Mayor Pike for President over Obama?
Does anyone know the official name of the theme song when Andy and Opie are going fishing?
It is called RAPE people!
October 25, 2008 - 01:29 ET by JWFSouth Park just did a show about this very topic. Lucas & Spielberg retool their movies or put out new ones and utterly take the joy out of characters we loved from years ago.
Now Howard has gone and USED beloved characters from his past TV shows to shove his cause down our throats.
It is yet another example of Hollywood s**tting on us because they think they know so much more us commoner type peons.
Sincerely,

October 25, 2008 - 09:43 ET by flyoverlandOtis also came out for Obama, then he sobered up.
Typical Hollywood
October 25, 2008 - 14:29 ET by BuzzguyThey think they're real people! Andy, Opie, Ritchie and the Fonz can't vote unless ACORN helps out.
How do you think Magnum P.I., Fraser and Walker Texas ranger are going to vote?
