Omission Watch: San Fran Takes Jesus-Bashing To Extremes

On September 30, a Sunday – the Lord’s Day in the Christian church – San Francisco will host the Folsom Street Fair, perhaps the most hedonistic event held in public in America. The fair is the San Francisco homosexual community’s annual celebration of promiscuity, sadomasochism and debauchery. The ad for this year’s fair mocks Da Vinci’s The Last Supper, with a half-naked beefcake Christ and disciples bedecked in all manner of leather and chains. The bread and wine of The Last Supper are replaced with sex toys. Many Christian groups have expressed outrage. (House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tells CNSNews.com "I do not believe Christianity has been harmed." Hear the audio there.)

Will the national media cover the story?

When it comes to the media treatment of Christian issues, you never know what you’ll get. For instance, in the October 1 issue of Newsweek, Lisa Miller’s "Beliefwatch" column tsk-tsks over the predictable outrage felt by Christians over comedienne Kathy Griffin saying "Suck it, Jesus" at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The outcry was loud enough that E! deleted Griffin’s remarks during their broadcast of the awards show. Miller’s sarcastic tone in reporting the story reveals her complete lack of regard for the offense felt by followers of Jesus.

Twenty-two pages later in the same issue of Newsweek is a two-page spread on how Democrats are wooing evangelical Christians. This is a story the media like. Three pictures accompany the article. One is of Sen. Barack Obama praying with Pastor Rick Warren, another is of Hillary Clinton in front of the word "Faith." The third is of a very disappointed-looking James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, with the caption "Dobson isn’t supporting Thompson." The article paints a very hopeful picture of the Democrats’ chances (the subhead to the story says "their efforts may have a prayer") of winning the younger evangelical vote, because "many younger evangelicals are worried about issues beyond the traditional struggles over abortion, school prayer and gay marriage."

There it is, the G word. The mainstream media are, shall we say, selective in their coverage of homosexuality as well. They collectively went nuts when Senator Larry Craig’s solicitation of ‘gay’ sex in a Minneapolis airport bathroom became public knowledge. However, they typically turn a blind eye to nudity and sexual acts occurring in broad daylight during "pride" parades. Public nudity is commonplace, as is sadomasochism, at the Folsom Street Fair. The fair’s Web site proudly promotes pictures of past events to prove the point.

According to Concerned Women for America, "The most unimaginable and vile acts of debauchery are commonplace during the fair. Senator Larry Craig was arrested and driven out of the Senate for allegedly soliciting public ‘gay’ sex, yet during this event the city of San Francisco suspends the law and allows ‘gay’ men and women to parade the streets fully nude, many having sex – even group orgies – in broad daylight, while taxpayer-funded police officers look on and do absolutely nothing."

And so we ask again: Will the mainstream media cover the Folsom Street Fair?

For the media, it must be like being caught between a rock and a hard place. The media love the Democrats. The Democrats are courting evangelicals as well as gays. The Folsom Street Fair pits one against the other – in a brazen and profane ad – for a taxpayer-supported event that flouts just about every moral precept upon which this country was built. Will the media cover THIS story?

Mean-spirited

Me thinks you are a sexist jerk.

Only to stick it to "uptight" and "homophobic" Christians!

The only way the MSM will cover this story is to bash any Christian objection as homophobic (even though this is not exclusively a gay event) and oversensitive. You know how it works. Christians are supposed to shut up and tolerate any and all attacks on their faith. But we're supposed to be sensitive to Muslims and tread carefully out of multiculturalism and respect for others.

The obvious mistake most on the left make regarding their freedom of speech is that just because something is "Allowed" does not mean it should "Occur."

The second mistake the left

The second mistake the left makes is when they fail to realize that other people can exercise their freedom of speech expressing their opinions on the actions of the left.

They wouldn't allow a Christian parade because that is "jamming your morals down our throat", but they are too stupid to see that, with this festival, they are "jamming their morals down our throat".

They demand respect and tolerance.  Any action that belittles them, they consider hate speech or discrimination.  They are too stupid to see that they are being disrespectful and intolerant.  They are too stupid to see that they are using hate to discriminate.

I mentioned this days ago,

I mentioned this days ago, in the Open Thread I think. Not that I'm bragging, but to point out that this story has already been ignored for several days. I linked to the original Kristen Fyfe column on townhall.com

I suggested we ask Mrs. Clinton, who was dubbed the "most religious" of the Democrat candidates, or Her Speakerness Nancy Pelosi, in whose district this is occurring, whether they think this is a legitimate "free speech" issue.

Apparently Her Speakerness doesn't have a problem with it. I wonder about Mrs. Clinton.

BTW, since Her Speakerness "doesn't think Christianity has been harmed," it is fair to ask: When someone makes a "racist" remark, does she think blacks are actually "harmed" by it?

Update:

I just read that reporter Les Kinsolving of WorldNetDaily asked Dana Perino at the White House if the President would use his own "free speech" to criticize Miller for sponsoring this event:

Kinsolving's
question was: "The president does not believe that the First Amendment
prohibits him from speaking out against the Miller Brewing Company's
widely reported financing of an obscene parody of 'Jesus Christ's Last
Supper' in San Francisco, does he?"

But Perino's response was only: "Well, you're clearing the room, Les. I'm going to decline to comment."

The
"clearing the room" reference was to NBC reporter Kelly O'Donnell, who,
according to the Catholic League, "stormed out of the room [when
Kinsolving asked his question] muttering her disapproval of
Kinsolving's question."

And since someone got mad and stormed out, Dana Perino would not answer the question.

I realize that they don't like Kinsolving and don't consider him a "real" reporter. And I also know that he asks some stupid questions sometimes. But they ALL ask stupid "trying to getcha" questions sometimes. But others don't get told they won't be answered. And Perino should NOT have let another reporter's snit fit dictate her answer.

So, why did Kelly O'Donnell

So, why did Kelly O'Donnell storm out?

Upset by the question because it possibly showed intolerance for alternative lifestyles just in asking the question?

Felt it wasn't newsworthy and decided to boycott Kinsolving?

(You see I am avoiding the She has strong religious beliefs and was offended to her soul by the San Fran event and the disgusting antiChristian ad ...)

This is only the beginning

The Bible says that in the last days men shall be lovers' of themselves more than lovers of Christ. We should not be at all surprised by this and must realize that unfortunately it is only going to get worst.

And Nancy Pelosi, well, what I have to say will probably not please the Lord and will be deleted off of newsbusters.org.

Let me just summarize it: Nancy is your typical leftists drone.

So these are the "Last

So these are the "Last Days"?

According to the Word...

Yes, these are the last days.

What word is that?

What word is that?

Sit still and listen and

Sit still and listen and those who have ears shall hear and those who have eyes shall see.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

*Cue creepy halloween music.*

I agree these are the last

I agree these are the last days. Such hedonistic behaviors and nothing from the biased media.

And the Newsbusters have

And the Newsbusters have the nerve to call AGW supporters alarmist.

Pssst Revelations was talking specifically about the Romans.  Not really pertinent to present times.  Just keep that in mind.

We are not alarmist to the

We are not alarmist to the point of making laws to the effect you pay taxes to make sure we will not fry in hell, we leave the choice up to you.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

Unless, that is...

You want to buy alcohol on a Sunday morning. Then your "choice," along with that of the person trying to sell it to you, is to pay a fine or go to jail...

I remember a time when all

I remember a time when all stores were closed Sundays, it was just how the society of the day acted.  People dressed up to go out to eat and the movies.  The Blue laws or some of them are still in effect, but what does that have with the thread?  Buying Achohol on Sundays is still restricted in some states and even areas in the state as it should be up to the people and states rights to determine what teh peopel of that state want.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

You said, and I quote:

"We are not alarmist to the point of making laws to the effect you pay
taxes to make sure we will not fry in hell, we leave the choice up to
you.
"

This implies there are no "blue laws," but they obviously exist & they're financed by my taxes. For me, they're as offensive as similar laws proposed whenever other religions get political majorities. It's pure control-freakery no-matter which invisible entity you worship. IMO it's immoral even if a majority want such laws -- if they don't like a business selling alcohol at the wrong hour on the wrong day, they're free to boycott it, not to make yet-another big government law against the behavior they dislike, because we live in (what's left of...) a Republic, not a Democracy.
JMR

Your rant made my point

Your rant made my point about society and how the laws adjust or society adjusts to teh laws.  What part of taxes pay for the Blue laws?  If you dont like the laws change them, its as simple as that.  My comment was about AGW and the taxes they want to start collecting and probably raise over the years.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

Their taxes for their religion...

Are exactly as immoral as anyone else's religion-enforcement control freak taxes. One penny spent on idiotic blue laws or idiotic AGW-laws is a penny too much, so I don't care what they cost.

Maybe so

Maybe so; but try Luke 17:26-32.

But quite frankly, if someone believes the Bible to be foolishness, we have no common ground. Shake the dust off your feet and go on. There is a place prepared for people on both sides of the argument AND aren't you glad. With the excercise of free will, the natural turn of events will decide the separations. Upon observing the behavior of those in the modern day city of Sodom and those who delight in it, are you not glad for the chasm that will seperate them from believers.

And don't run that guilt game on me that I should want everyone to go to heaven because, I do; but they don't and are doing a good job of it. I wish them to enjoy their fate. Now go ahead and start your halloween music if you want to.

Having said that, we will never know the timing of the second coming BUT the preceding verses in Luke may be telling.

Pelosi, the Italian,

Pelosi, the Italian, Catholic, grandmother says this is no big deal.  My late, Italian, Catholic, grandmothers would be raising holy hell.  Remember, Pelosi, Boxer, and DiFi are all supported by this group. The homosexual lobby is one of the main supports of the modern Democratic Party.  The only way this will be reported in the MSM is in the context of an attack on a gay event. Political correctness will call it a hate crime. This event, along with the City of San Francisco's reaction to trying to film the Marine ad, calls for a boycott by tourists.

Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend.  Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.--- Groucho Marx

I'm glad at least someone

I'm glad at least someone asked Her Speakerness about this. They need to ask the "most religious Democrat," AKA HRC, what she thinks of this too.

Now we know something about Mrs. Pelosi. This is accpetable to her. She needs to be questioned periodically about things like this...sort of as "range-finding" shots....everyone should know how far her acceptance goes; where she finally draws the line, if this is not it. Same with Mrs. Clinton; we have a right to know where, at long last, she finally says "this is not acceptable."

And when you think about this being acceptable to her, recall this description from Ms. Fyfe's column:

during this event the city
of San Francisco suspends the law and allows ‘gay’ men and women to
parade the streets fully nude, many having sex – even group orgies – in
broad daylight, while taxpayer-funded police officers look on and do
absolutely nothing.

That OK with you, Your Speakerness??????

Ooooh!

How about "National Pork Month" during Ramadan?

Festivals, barbecues, hog calling, mass slaughterings, sausage making and the like all across the country!

I 'm sure Islam won't be harmed... Right, Nancy?

Im all for it, with all of

Im all for it, with all of us dressing in beards and wearing "life jackets", ohh yeah.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

What if...

A revered scene from Islamic history had been similarly lampooned?  Ms. Pelosi would have passionately pleaded for tolerance, understanding and all those other values to which he and her ilk pay only the most cursory lip service to.

The MSM will not have the

The MSM will not have the courage to cover this event.

Three or four years ago on a very hot San Francisco afternoon, my husband and I walked through one block of this event.  (A great many city streets are closed, and off-duty SF Police Officers provide security.)  In that one block, we saw a middle-aged man in shorts exposing himself and giving other fellows the “eye” to see if there was interest in ducking into an alleyway.  We saw obese topless women with painted breasts wearing hot pants.  We saw men in cages being lashed.  And what put us “on the run” out of the area was a naked man masturbating on the street while another man was taking a video…..

When you live in the SF Bay Area, you become accustomed to the “unusual”, but this was the most appalling display of debauchery we have ever seen, and we have warned all of our friends that they must steer clear of the City during this annual weekend “celebration”.

"And what put us “on the

"And what put us “on the run” out of the area was a naked man masturbating on the street while another man was taking a video….."

This was a crime, even in San Francisco. You should have notified the police instead of running away.

These freak shows must end, for public decency. Anywhere in public that I go, across the entirety of the USA, I should be able to bring my son and not have to shade his eyes or ears from lewd acts or inapropriate language.

I went to McDonalds one day with my 2 1/2 year old son. There were several "gangster" types just hanging out there. Their language was deplorable, and body language even worse.

I called the cops on my cell, right where they could hear me talking to the police, and they stood there and laughed at me.

By the time I was done eating my lunch with my kid, two of them had been arrested for outstanding warrants and the other three "dispersed quickly". Running, in fact.

I laughed pretty hard, out loud, right as one of them was being loaded into the back of a police car.

Dabal, More of us need to

Dabal,

More of us need to follow your example.  Our lame excuse was that off-duty SF Police Officers provided the security…. and there were many, many officers witnessing this scene (though a lot of them were trying to look skyward).  “Anything goes” is not an exaggeration when it comes to the SF gay community.

Needless to say, we did not stop for a Miller beer.  And Miller really should reexamine its sponsorship of this event.

San Fransisco...anus of the planet Earth.

When the earth needs an enema...the tube will be inserted into San Francisco...and they will love it!

If Islam were the dominate religion in the U.S (Thank the Supreme Being it aint)...all those little hedonistic dipsticks would be dead in a heartbeat. Hanged, stoned and beheaded without uttering a word against Allah. Hell...I'm willing to bet that blood would flow bigtime if they tried the same crap against Islam even now. I can just see some "very religious young man who never hurt anyone or uttered a hostile word," blowing himself up in their midst whilst screaming "Alluah Akbar"! These POS cowards attack and demean only those who will not fight back. If they are rebelling (bless their little juvenile hearts), against intolerance, then Islam should be the target, not Christianity.

I personally deplore any organized religion, but, as long as you don't stuff it down my throat, you can worshop the Flying Spaghetti Monster for all I care. But...you won't find me slinging spaghetti and meatballs around on the ground just to piss them off.

Happy Trails...

ms. pelosi's comments

i just sent the speaker a letter telling her i was offended by the add and her comments. i doubt i get a reply because i practically accused her and others in congress and certain ones in the media of being scared to offend the muslim community but Christianity was fair game. maybe we should flood her with e-mails to let her know there are those were offended by her comments

I would love nothing more

I would love nothing more than to see Pelosi show up at her district's event and have the photos of her there published for all to see. I am sure it would grace the pages of many mags and web sites. Then the people of the US can see what she really is made of!!!

For those who dare, it can be googled to see what this event really is. Forget the articles and just go for the photos.

Ewwwww

Now that would be horrifying ... Nancy Belagosi in leather and chains.

...and allows ‘gay’ men

...and allows ‘gay’ men and women to parade the streets fully nude, many having sex –

These people say they are discriminated against because of the military's  'Don't ask, Don't tell' policy.  Imagine having some of these depraved hedonists with the sexual sophistication of 12 year olds parading around a military base.  If they can't control their behavior enough so that normal people don't know what they do in private then they need to stay in places like San Fran where they can leave the rest of us alone.

San Francisco has made

San Francisco has made itself irrelevant as a city. It's become nothing but a decadent theme park for hedonists...

So, her speakerness doesn't

So, her speakerness doesn't think this exhibition doesn't harm Christianity, eh?  Well, how about we photoshop Nancy's face onto a photograph of some slut engaged in an act of bestiality, and spread it all over the internet?  Would that harm Nancy?  Would it be any different than what these San Francisco groups are doing to Christianity?

"A communist is someone who reads Marx.  An anti-communist is someone who understands Marx."  Ronald Reagan

Don't Forget. . .

This is Nancy Pelosi's district. She has sold her soul to Satan and will say whatever it takes to get re-elected.

It's times like these that you wish for a swift Excommunication! She is just another immoral stain who claims to be a Catholic. Newsflash Pelosi, Catholicism is not 'progressive.' It is God's way or the highway.

Who could be surprised?

By this time, who could possibly be surprised about the nonsense that comes out of Pelosi's mouth? She and Reid have been bought and sold so many times by interest groups that even they don't know what they believe anymore.

Hmm, only 11 percent of Americans say they trust the Congress.
That's 89 percent of Americans who say SEND THESE BUMS HOME BEFORE THEY COMPLETELY DESTROY THE COUNTRY!!!!

Puh-lease

"The Last Supper" is an iconic art image in the public domain.  As such, it is regularly spoofed, lampooned, and reinterpreted by creative artists.  A quick google image search netted me 6 alternative last suppers including a super hero last supper, a black last supper, a zombie last supper, and a last supper with the Red Sox.  Why not a gay last supper?

If you really want to take all of these artistic reinterpretations as attacks on Christianity I suppose that's your prerogative.  But it seems so childish.  It is a tribute to an image that everyone recognizes by groups that want to impose some of their own identity on it.  If da Vinci is rolling over in his grave, than I apologize to him.  I don't think anyone needs to apologize to the general Christian populace!

And the comparison to Islam is just not valid.  Their religion specifically forbids any representation of their prophet.  There is no similar commandment about drawing funny pictures of Christ, at least not one I've ever heard quoted.

I live in San Francisco, and I love this city.  I love that there is a place where outre behavior is celebrated, and you should too-- get rid of San Francisco and we'd all just move to your towns!

cleverpig, I’m also a

cleverpig,

I’m also a local and my husband and I have raised a family here.  Having seen both events first-hand I was wondering, do you differentiate between the Folsom Leather Fair and other annual events like the Freedom Parade?

Only in terms of degrees.

Only in terms of degrees.  I think most of the people decrying the Folsom Fair here would be offended by many things I've seen in the Freedom Parade.  If you let them shut one down, then it's hard to stop them from making the same argument for other, (slightly) more mainstream events.  I don't actually attend the Folsom Street Fair, as the descriptions I've heard from my friends suggest it probably goes further than my own somewhat prudish tendencies would be comfortable with.  But I fully support it's right to exist, and to advertise by altering a painting by da Vinci.

Incidentally, for those who aren't local, there is a big da Vinci exhibition in town this year, with advertisements all over billboards in the city.  That is probably why the artists picked that image to advertise-- not because they felt like being extra mean to Christians this year :P

absolutely CP

and (<move drinks warning>) after this, we can have the Folsum nambla fair right?  And tell me:  how much taxpayer money is spent on this event?

Perhaps we need to have billboards depicting and making fun of 'Gay Ray'?

Tax payer money isn't used

Tax payer money isn't used for the fair.  It is a non-profit.  Tickets are sold and all proceeds go to local charities.

Yes, you are even more annoying than Blonde.  the EYE

Usually, if a private event

Usually, if a private event requires police protection, they are required to pay for it themselves.  If the city decides that police are needed somewhere that hasn't planned to have them, then the tax payers share the burden.  Given that 400,000 people attend this event, I can be reasonably sure that they are paying for police presence at the actual event.  Maybe there are disturbances around the event that the city has to pay for, but seriously, that's why we have police.

But I fully support its

But I fully support its right to exist, and to advertise by altering a painting by da Vinci.

cleverpig,

I also support the right to alter the painting, but I find the result highly offensive.  Those who chose to use this depiction to advertise their event should be prepared to pay the price for that decision by losing sponsorships and public support.

As to the Folsom sex fair’s right to exist, is there any sort of sexual activity on city streets that you think should be disallowed?

The fair is gated and

The fair is gated and ticketed.  Everyone who enters, at least according to their official policy, is warned about the adult content of what lies within.  Within that space, I think anything consensual is acceptable.  Outside that space, I think laws should be enforced.

cleverpig

When my husband and I walked through this scene three years ago (may have been four), we did not encounter a gate or ticketing area…..  At any rate, San Francisco officials chose to close down multiple city streets to vehicle traffic for an entire weekend…. in order to provide an arena for public sex, some of it clearly anonymous and some possibly prostituted (though we didn’t see any money change hands).

The decision to allow this sex fair was made by a city government well aware of the power of its constituents in the gay community.

At a time when the gay community is seeking a higher national profile and a positive image…. I do not see how public orgies fit into their political agenda.

I love that there is a

I love that there is a place where outre behavior is celebrated, and you should too--

Is that the new term for public, gay, group sex..."outre behavior"???
