TIME: RU Kidding?

The TIME headline is ironic: “Study Finds Abortion Pill Safe.” Safe for whom exactly?  Certainly not for the millions of pre-born children who have died when their mothers took it.  Nor is it “safe” for their mothers.

The August 15 article by Sara Song (and the story run by AP on August 16) touts the findings released in the New England Journal of Medicine that show use of the RU-486 abortion pill “in the long term, is safe.”

That’s a message the feminist influenced, pro-choice media want to promote. In her article Song wrote “women who use mifepristone (RU 486) are no better or worse off than those who choose surgical abortion” and that “most existing research shows that surgical abortions have no effect on overall health risks.”

That statement is flatly false.  As reported in LifeNews.com, there is plenty of research that shows that women with a “history of abortion have a greater risk of fetal loss than women who had no previous abortions.”  Further, there is medical evidence that links abortions to breast cancer and sterility.

But reporting facts like that doesn’t fit the mainstream media’s pro-choice agenda.

According to National Right For Life (NRLC), “There are several serious well documented side effects associated with RU 486/prostaglandin abortions, including prolonged (up to 44 days) and severe bleeding, nausea, vomiting, pain, and even death. At least one woman in France died while others there suffered life-threatening heart attacks from the technique.”

While the TIME article does mention six deaths associated with the RU-486 abortion method, it chalks these up to infection, not necessarily connected with the baby-killing drug.

And neither the TIME article, nor this new study, addresses the psychological damage that abortion can do.

The NRLC reports that, “Researchers on the after-effects of abortion have identified a pattern of psychological problems known as Post-Abortion Syndrome. Women suffering from PAS may experience drug and alcohol abuse, personal relationship disorders, sexual dysfunction, repeated abortions, communications difficulties, damaged self-esteem, and even attempt suicide. Post-Abortion Syndrome appears to be a type of pattern of denial which may last for five to ten years before emotional difficulties surface.

“The emergence of chemical abortion methods poses a new possibly more devastating psychological threat. Unlike surgical abortions, in which women rarely see the cut up body parts, women having chemical abortions often do see the complete tiny bodies of their unborn children and are even able to distinguish the child’s developing hands, eyes, etc. So traumatic is this for some women that both patients and researchers involved in these studies have recommended that women unprepared for the experience of seeing their aborted children not take the drugs.”

"Webster’s Dictionary" defines "safe” as, “free from damage, danger, etc.; having escaped injury.”  Can any form of abortion, surgical or via pill, meet this standard?  Certainly not for the baby who is killed in the process.  And not for the mother. But the MSM won't report that.

what they really mean...

Taking RU486 while pregnant results in only the death of the baby or within days and therefore is "safe" for the full grown woman or teenager. The fact that there will be health effects years later and likely devastating psychological effects are meaningless and irrelevant to the death to babies crowd.

The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic

Another Irony

It's funny how adamant the Big Government Libs are to get RU 486 available here in the U.S. while hundreds of beneficial medications are held up in the FDA bureaucracy.

Safe? Beneficial? For Whom?

I hear you, mattm

Important Safety Information:

Prescription Requip is not for everyone. Requip Tablets may cause you to fall asleep or feel very sleepy during normal activities such as driving; or to faint or feel dizzy, nauseated, or sweaty when you stand up. Tell your doctor if you experience these problems or if you drink alcohol or are taking other medicines that make you drowsy. Also tell your doctor if you experience new or increased gambling, sexual, or other intense urges while taking Requip. Side effects include nausea, drowsiness, vomiting, and dizziness. Most patients were not bothered enough to stop taking Requip.

What the FDA deems "safe" (or necessary) these days is not even close to my definition. With the hundreds of pharmaceutical companies owned by George Soros (or his heavy investments in these companies), a pattern of "better life through chemistry" seems to be emerging. Sorry DuPont, but that was wide open and ripe for the plucking.

There are even RLS support groups! OMG! What is happening!?

Look at all the drug ads on

Look at all the drug ads on T.V.  It's almost like the patent medicines of the 1800's.

The FDA was supposed to protect us from snake oil salesmen because we're too dumb to figure things out for ourselves. But, the problem is that the market works way better than government.   There is probably a natural cure for RLS that can't be sold as such because the FDA classifies it as a drug, or some better medicine that didn't meet FDA approval because some similar medication got approved first and was granted a government approved monopoly...

Side note:  I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that RLS support groups are just part of the marketing campaign, rather than genuine "grass-roots" groups.

Who saw the MSM spot

Who saw the MSM spot recently with the abortion pill advocate (under her cover as a doctor) confidently state that ". . .emergency contraception is just what it is, emergency contraception."

Who's she kidding?  In pharmaceutical speak, this would fall under the category of "emergency contraCONseption".  That is to say, taking action after the fact.

And besides, where's the "emergency" here, anyway?  Help-help! I'm being threatened by a zygote!  Call the waa-mbulence  LOL!

Sick and tired of all the doubletalk.

Tarradiddling TIME

Pro-Choicers are so sanctimonious in their belief that abortion is "necessary" and "legitimate" that glorifying the murder of unborn children in national magazines (TIME in partnership with CNN) and touting a new! and improved! way to achieve those murders of convenience is big news! Complete with trendy and modern art in its packaging.

Even the name of the "abortion pill" - RU-486, gives me the creeps.

"RU 4 86" ing your unborn child?

That smarmy tactic in naming a pharmacological product is probably thought hilarious by the manufacturer, but not by me.

I've seen Song give her commentary on some news programs. She is devoid of coherent thought and is unable to answer the straightforward questions she's asked - she heads off into Tangentville immediately. Agenda-driven. That is all. Why she is given platform after platform to push her one-sided agenda is laughable.

The New England Journal of

The New England Journal of Medicine has been wrong time and time again over plenty of years....(SIDS would be just one example that I can think of right off the top of my head at the moment)

Time Mag is just a leftist rag.

On top of that you are killing a child as far as I am concerned...Sara Song can sing elsewhere...I am not buying her tune.

Pretty simple as that.

We were talking about

We were talking about sources earlier, when Noel told Chuckus that Media Matters and Real Climate weren't valid. Can we say the same about the organizations cited by Lyne?
