Globe Drags Out Slavery Issue While Dragging America Through The Dirt

President-elect Obama came to the national stage with a quip like, "There is not a black America and a white America and Latino America and Asian America. There's the United States of America."

It is too bad his supporters in the media did not believe him.  Obama has not even been sworn in yet, and the mainstream media is already finding divisive ways to fan the flames of racial politics.

Michael Kranish uses some unusual comparisons pertaining to American slavery and the inauguration of Obama in a December 28th Boston Globe piece located in the news section.

Kranish begins by pointing out Obama will be sworn in on grounds that slave labor built. He reminds readers Obama will stand before a crowd where blacks were previously sold as human property(my emphasis throughout):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

When Barack Obama takes the oath of office at the US Capitol, the first African-American to become president will be standing amid stonework laid by slaves more than two centuries ago. He will appear before a crowd massed on the Mall, where slaves were once held in pens, ready for auction. He will end his inauguration route at the White House, where the foundations were laid by slaves, and where eight presidents held blacks as their human property.

Kranish continues using a thin veil of a pedagogue to further lash out at the United States:

At nearly every turn of Obama's march to history, the thread that deeply intertwines the founding of the nation with its great stain, slavery, will be evident. Yet for all the attention on Obama's racial breakthrough, the full story of slavery in the nation's capital remains beneath the surface. While the Lincoln Memorial on the far end of the Mall draws attention to the fight to end slavery, there is no memorial at the spot near the Capitol where slaves were once kept and sold in a three-story building called the Yellow House.

"Many people come down to the National Mall and never realize that they are walking on the site of the slave markets," said Jesse J. Holland, author of the recent book, "Black Men Built the Capitol." Now, with Obama's inauguration, historians are hoping that the role of slaves in the history of building Washington will become more widely recognized.

The article continues to give what is believed to be Michelle Obama’s family connection to America’s slave past:

Obama is the son of a black African father and a white Kansan mother, while his wife, Michelle, has a direct connection to America's history of enslavement, as Obama noted during the presidential campaign, saying the next first lady "carries within her the blood of slaves and slave owners."

Her great-great grandfather, on her father's side, was born into slavery and is believed to have lived in a small cabin at a coastal South Carolina rice plantation.

Later, Kranish names individual U.S. presidents who were slave holders:

The first president to move into the mansion, John Adams of Massachusetts, was antislavery. But his successor, Thomas Jefferson, at various times brought a number of slaves to live with him in the White House. The other presidents who owned slaves while living in the White House were James Madison, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, John Tyler, William Henry Harrison, James Polk, and Zachary Taylor, according to the historian Seale.

The Madisons are the last one to get it from Kranish. In fact, despite pointing out that the Madison’s former slave, Paul Jennings, apparently held no ill will towards Mrs. Madison and helped her out later on in life, he writes the following comparison:

After Madison died, Jennings was able to buy his freedom from Dolley Madison, who later became relatively destitute for a time. Jennings, hearing of the plight of Mrs. Madison, wrote that he "occasionally gave her small sums from own pocket, though I had years before bought my freedom of her." Now, exactly two centuries after Madison became president and brought slaves with him to the White House, Barack and Michelle Obama will move into the home.

Kranish’s would make some believe the United States never gave much thought to the issue of slavery; however, Kranish omits the Lincoln- Douglas debates, which were nothing but about the slavery issue. Moreover, he never mentions the hundreds of thousands of lives lost during the Civil War reminds the nation about American slavery all the time.

It is indeed historical that an African American is taking the oath of office on January 20th next year, but how does this guarantee anything but something of a historical nature? Once again, the liberal notion of symbol over substance rules the day in Kranish’s logic.

Kranish wrote this piece as if America owed the people an African-American president simply because of America's history with slavery. How is such a message beneficial, and why is it in the news section of a major national newspaper?

Perhaps the news section of The Boston Globe has yet to realize the legal practice of American slavery is now history itself, and other more important battles need to be fought over other than the ones that were fought over and settled over one hundred and forty years ago.

Slaves didn't lay stonework.

Masons did.

Although it may be true that some slave labor may have been used  it was for menial labor and  not  for some of the impressive stone work you would see around the Capitol.Free masons ran that show buddy boy.

I wonder if Mr. Kranish realizes that the home he lives in is sitting on what was once Indian territory and maybe he would like to atone for his sins and return that property to the tribes that it was stolen from.

Liberals are silly people.

I'm guessing his opinion might change on that.

Stone Fence Myth

In Kentucky we have miles of stone fences, especially in the Bluegrass region. For years I was told that slaves built those fences. Then, when I started studying the construction of them Section 106 mitigation of highway construction projects, I discovered a completely different story. It turned out that they were built by Irish and Scottish stone masons, and slaves had little to do with their construction.

I will still read a newspaper article or catch a television feature that states the fences were built by slaves. Slaves maybe hauled the rock but did not construct the fences.

Heck, the way they teach history these days you'd think that the white man didn't lift a finger in the South.

When the Union won the war, this nation then let industry enslave all the races. I know that sound like liberal dippity-do, but as a Southerner I have a hard time seperating the Gilded Age from the Antebellum South. It's just different masters.

must be some sort of "inferiority complex"?

maybe they refuse to mark the Civil War because it shows that it was not "solidarity" or a slave uprising that created their freedom, but white politicians forcing change and white farmboys dying in fields in Tennessee that released their people? That all the African tribal "mysticism" didn't do it, nor did "taking a village to raise a child" end slavery.

Nor do they want to point out that, it's a much bigger heroism to stand up against something that is in one's own best interest. African slaves wanting freedom? That's something that benefits themselves, of course they'd advocate strongly for it. But when wealthy plantation owners, politicians, businessmen, captains of industry and the common citizenry-when they advocate for something that actually *harms* their personal profit margins or actually reduces their *own* freedoms (risking hate and harm from their own people often) then that's something that deserves words of praise.

Getting elected by a majority, having the entire "System" and it's Media shilling for you, having more of a society's type of wealth than the vast majority of the population, is *not* overcoming adversity. Getting a majority election while poor in comparison to your opponents, with no backroom support from the Political Machine, when the Media lies and distorts everything you say and do, THAT is heroism and overcoming adversity.

But, until the (whatever PC term)-American culture takes responsibility for itself, cuts the passive-aggressive crap, admits it ain't perfect, and is willing to accept criticism (even from within) and doesn't punish it's own people for success (being "too white) they'll always find themselves at a level they don't like. This culture of "entitlement" and "someone's gotta give me" or "someone's gotta lead us" isn't working. A whole lotta folks need to wake up and BE "Someone". And their first act as "someone" shouldn't be to oppress competition, create subservient followers, and manage things as yet another "tribe". Tribalism didn't hold agains the Romans, nor the Europeans, nor does it work today. Street gangs as a whole may hold power and terror over cities, but since they're all little tribes always looking to subjugate each other and to be the "Top Dawg", while keeping everyone else down under them, they'll never affect policy or social change.

Selective Memory

Why do liberal media types always forget to mention that no Republican president ever owned slaves, that it was the Republicans that were primarily responsible for passage of the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments, and that it was the Democrats who were responsible for Jim Crow laws.

If you want to rehash old history, please tell people who was responsible for that history. Want to know more about Democratic involvement in the slave trade and anti-equality legislation, go to the NBRA (National Black Republican Association) website for complete details.

Btw..this is a perfect

Btw..this is a perfect example of why I will not be watching the Inauguration whatsoever...all this blather with his train ride to the Capitol, trying to make himself a semblance of Lincoln with the aide of the msm daily, being sworn in on Lincoln's Bible, ect. makes me sick to my stomach.

There is no comparison, never will be, but the msm and the so-called msm whore historians will help attempt to rewrite history for this empty suited sock-puppet...forever.

Who by the way is not even a legal citizen of the US to be sworn in as.

He will never be called my President by me, let alone President, it will always be O.

It appears

It appears that someone on BHO's staff didn't do their research on Lincoln.  This is such delicious irony:

Hey, Kranish!

Although I don't buy into your premise, come with me for a moment to this little scenario:

Great Grampa Kranish is given an hierloom vase way back in 1701 by Greater Grampa Kranish. Great Grampa Kranish's son breaks said vase quite by careless child activity.oh, let's say by tossing a bouncy ball in the Kranish household. OOPS. Bad mistake! Sorry!

Now, let's jump to the present day. You, sir, have a son. He hasn't broken anything,in fact, he's been told all his life of the broken vase and he has been very careful over every object in your house as long as he can remember, but you deride him daily calling him careless, clumsy, stupid and of little worth because back in 1701 Great Grampa Kranish's son broke a priceless vase.

Would that make any sense?

I dunno...to you it very well might.

What Obama thinks of Lincoln

"I cannot swallow whole the view of Lincoln as the Great Emancipator."
BARACK OBAMA, Time Magazine, Jun. 26, 2005

Then why

Then why is BHO taking the same whistle stop train route that Lincoln did?  Why is he using Lincoln's Bible to be sworn in?  Why is he having a picture of Lincoln at his coronation?

Slavery

Alright children, let's not forget who were the first slave owners: Africans.

Yes, while ignorant whitey was still living in caves, Africans built a great nation using slave labor. Africans liked slaves so much, they started selling them to other peoples. Too bad the slave industry turned on them. No pity from me though, my ancestors were slaves of the Romans, and I am well over it.

I'm getting a little tired

I'm getting a little tired of blacks constanty using something that happened 200 years ago to justify their bad behavior now. It was a terrible thing but it was 200 years ago. Just how long are these fools going to expect the white man to feel guilty? I don't feel even the smallest bit guilty. I never owned slaves, none of my family ever owned slaves, no person alive ever owned slaves. Do they say the same thing about black tribesmen in Africa that actually sold the slaves? I'll bet not, it wouldn't fit in with their idiotic, hate America agenda.

It is amazing ...

It is amazing that even though a supposed black man (I say supposed because he is more white than black. He is mixed race and he doesn't like to acknowledge his white side.) has been elected president, blacks (along with the help of liberals) continue to try playing the race card. These folks need to give it a rest, else it WILL backfire on them. My family didn't own slaves and most folks I know, their families never owned slaves.

These black folks who push the slavery think need to go after the right people, their African breathern and the muslims who put the blacks into slavery.

Remember folks, Freedom isn't Free. It was bought with the blood and sacrifice of the men and women who are serving and who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

For those who fought for it, Freedom has a flavor that the protected will never know.

What do slaves have to do

What do slaves have to do with Obama?

Is Obama perhaps the first president since Emancipation whose family owned slaves afterward? Is that it?

I always find it amusing....

...that the Dems' annual dinner is in honor of Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson, two slave owners, not to mention of course the fact that Jackson absolutely loved the ethnic cleansing of Indians from east of the Mississippi.

If those two had been Republicans the GOP would've been forced to denounce them years ago, yet since they are Dems all we hear are crickets chirping.

"Irony can sure be ironic sometimes"--Buck Murdock, Airplane II

I will repost because someone in the biased media cannot read

Don't forget that half of the country banned slavery many many years PRIOR to the civil war. It was a divisive issue at the founding of the country and nearly stopped us from becoming the union we are.

Here is my repost from an earlier blog entry.

Oh and we must point out the whole slavery thing again. Because as EVERYONE knows, the U.S culture is the only culture to ever have slaves.

No No No. No other culture in the entire history of the planet had slaves. You know like Ancient Egypt, the Akkadian Empire, Assyria, Ancient Greece, Ancient Persia, Rome and parts of its empire, and the Islamic Caliphate, Ancient Greece, Byzantine Empire, medieval Europe, Portugal, Spain, England. I SAID NO. It was just the United States people.

And it was only the black culture that was enslaved. No No No, there were no othe cultures enslave like the Greeks, Berbers, Germans, Britons, Thracians, Gauls (or Celts), Jews, Arabs, pagan Central and Eastern Europe, along with the Caucasus and Tartary. Of course no white blooded people were ever ever EVER slaves. NO WAY WERE between 1 million and 1.25 million Europeans captured by Barbary pirates and sold as slaves in North Africa and Ottoman Empire between the 16th and 19th centuries.

So let's keep hammering that theme home. The U.S was the only culture to have only (the one single type) black slaves.

Sincerely,

a Veteran of a 1000 psychic wars.

Thanks again for stating the obvious so that the uninformed Elite can be reminded of History. I know that you only scratched the surface on the history of slavery. The Feudal serfs of Western Europe were slaves to the whims of the Royalty up into the 20th century. Many of our ancestors came from Europe and served as indentured servants until the cost of passage was paid off.

Slavery as noted in some current articles is still alive today. I just read a story about a 19 year old from Egypt who was brought to the US to serve as a maid when she was about 9. This story and worse are not unusual in many parts of the world because children are so easily taken advantage of and are thought often as chattel.

The United States was a participant in organized slavery until 1865 which was the year that 1 of my great Grandparents was born here. Two other great Grandparents were born in Germany  and another here shortly after that. I recognize the efforts of ALL Americans to build our great country but I bridle at the thought of having any personal responsibility for slavery.

ah NC, you're German

That means you're a white supremacist, Jew hating Nazi. I've been getting bits of that off an on thruout my life. Which is funny because he had a case here where a witch hunt over an email that supposely was "offensive" to Mexicans got people suspended, but it was perfectly acceptable to have photoshops of Bush and Hussein as gay lovers and to have one "offended" individual call up a lady in the email chain and call her a "f**king Nazi". No official reprimand for that one. Nor for the guy who wrote death threat emails to the Minutemen from our government computers. He was well covered-up for by Management and promoted quietly to another department to enjoy his racist anti-American stance and the pay raise.

So NC, they get ya one way or the other. Slave owner, Nazi, or beneficiary of the blood of slaves. Which is hilarious when these afrocentrists go after someone who's 3/4 Cherokee with an eighth of Inuit but inherited the pasty white skin of that last eight's european whaler ancestry...

"to call an illegal immigrant an "undocumented alien" is the same as calling a streetcorner drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist".

"You spend your money anyway you want and respect other's rights to do the same"

Rolling the eyes.

Well, if Mr. Kranish can find any place in the world that didn't use some level of slave labor to build its infrastructure, he better let Obama know so he can be sworn in there (I wonder if he can have his corination on the moon?).  In the mean time, I'm getting  quite tired of dredging up racism, slavery, and the revisionist history just to make a point about Obama's presidency.  Enough already.  It's been quite dull for a long time.

Perfect Demotivator for the Obama Administration

http://www.despair.com/government.html

Obama comes from slave owners not slaves.

What no mention of the fact that Obama's only connection to American slavery is that his white family owned slaves, and were probably none to happy with President Lincoln.

Also, Obama comparing himself to Lincoln is crazy. I am a Southerner, but I like Lincoln he is a Republican hero not something he can co-op. Plus, since he has railed against Bush's so called shutting down of civil liberties I would guess that he also wouldn't like the, necessary, civil liberty violations of Lincoln. But, I guess reading a history book is too much to ask of our so-called intellectual President-Elect and the MSM.

God forbid that ...

God forbid that Obama and the MSM read a history book that hasn't been rewritten by a liberal. How can Obama and the MSM believe facts that are contrary to their way of thinking? That just ain't going to happen.

Liberals don't like being burdened with facts. There is alot of written history out there that shows just who it was that put the black man into slavery. Just so happens that it was the muslims and their own black brethren.

Also remember folks that some of the biggest racists (blacks) are those who claim that all whites and other races are racist.

Remember folks, Freedom isn't Free. It was bought with the blood and sacrifice of the men and women who are serving and who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

For those who fought for it, Freedom has a flavor that the protected will never know.

here's another thing that's never mentioned ...

black on black slavery ... the liberals never want to discuss the fact that africans sold and enslaved their own people.  slavery didn't start in the US and it didn't cease globally following the Civil War ... the despicable practice has a long history that doesn't exclude any race ... germany and japan enslaved many of their captives in the second world war.   the narrowminded nature and shallow knowledge of these newspeople is simply astounding.

Obama's "presidency" will set back race relations 30 years.

And it won't be due so much to what Obama does or doesn't do, but what his more radical supporters in the MSM will do.

These corrupt MSM liars claim to want to see racial divisions in this country "healed," yet, they jump onto the bandwagon of every racially divisive issue they can find (or they manufacture one themselves) in what appears to me to be a deliberate effort to fan the flames.

Trotsky and Lenin liked compulsory labor

When Obama passes away he'll be buried at Arlington National Cemetary which was land that was owned by Robert E Lee's wife prior to the breakout of the Civil War.  Our National Cemetary was started out of spite by the Union.  They confiscated the land and started burying people there.

Also guess who else likes compulsory or slave labor?  Leon Trotsky and Lenin.  What?!! No way could great human rights activists like Trotsky and Lenin like slave labor.  Does Ayers know about this?  We can't have anything ever taught that Trotsky or Lenin supported slave labor.

From the link below.

"The Bolsheviks' forced labor policies gave new life to the concept of irony. The men who had proclaimed themselves liberators of the workers and denounced the exploitation of labor suddenly discovered the joys of serfdom. Trotsky stood at the theoretical vanguard of the literal proponents of slavery: "It is said that compulsory labor is unproductive. This means that the whole socialist economy is doomed to be scrapped, because there is no other way of attaining socialism except through the command allocation of the entire labor force by the economic center, the allocation of that force in accord with the needs of a nationwide economic plan." Initially the forced labor laws were applied to the (ex-)middle classes, but their application rapidly broadened to include not only workers and peasants but even minors."
