<<<     Managing Editor's Note: Reposted today (February 17, 2016) in light of Chris Matthews's one-on-one interview with Kasich on tonight's Hardball.

This was also reposted July 21, 2015 in light of Kasich's formal announcement kicking off his presidential bid. When Kasich announced, Matthews gushed "people like me tend to like this guy."    >>>

Chris Matthews has already scripted his dream scenario for the post-convention portion of the 2016 presidential race. Hillary Clinton is up 5 to 10 points in the polls and she selects, as a gracious move to prove she's about bringing all Americans together, Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio) as her running mate.

Matthews offered this gem somewhat out of the blue during a segment on the May 28 edition of Hardball, after discussing the interesting dynamic that would ensue if the libertarian and dovish Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) ended up the GOP nominee facing off against Clinton.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: You know what I would like to see? I would like Hillary Clinton, I'd like to see her up about, five or ten points after her convention, er, going in to her convention, which is the second convention, and picking John Kasich, and blowing everybody's mind. Because that would just blow everybody's mind. They'd say, you know, McCain talked about doing it, picking Joe Lieberman. The first person that comes along and says, you know what, I'm going to pick somebody of quality on the other side, we're going to change this system, make it work.

Just a thought. It probably won't happen, but maybe it will stir something just by saying it.
