Current Drowns Olbermann, Mercurial Leftist Anchor Booted from Al Gore's Network

By Ken Shepherd | March 30, 2012 | 18:04

A  A
Ken Shepherd's picture

"Current TV said Friday afternoon that it had terminated the contract of its lead anchor, Keith Olbermann, scarcely a year after he was hired to reboot the fledgling channel in his progressive political image. Current indicated that he had failed to honor the terms of his five-year, $50 million contract, giving the channel the right to terminate it," New York Times's Brian Stelter reported this afternoon. For his part, Olbermann trash-tweeted Al Gore and the suits at Current on the way out the door, no doubt in an inspired manner kinda like this.

Let us have a brief moment of silence, followed by hours of exultation. Leave your comments below. Here's a topic starter, borrowed from a Twitter hashtag game (#nextjobforkeith), what will Olbermann's next job be?

On the run, bin Laden lived in 5 houses

Submitted by upcountrywater on Fri, 03/30/2012 - 8:06pm.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Osama bin Laden lived in five safe houses while on the run in Pakistan and fathered four children — two of them born in government hospitals, his youngest widow has told investigators.

Al-Sada's account says she flew to Pakistan in 2000 and traveled to Afghanistan where she married bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks.

After that, the family "scattered" and she traveled to Karachi in Pakistan. She later met up with bin Laden in Peshawar and then moved to the Swat Valley, where they lived in two houses. They moved one more time before settling in Abbottabad in 2005.

In other news: Nothing better than Olbermann suing man bear pig...

Uhh, I guess you are

Submitted by Car 54 on Sat, 03/31/2012 - 7:06pm.

Uhh, I guess you are technically correct. The media did in fact report Bush’s position on Bin Laden that he clearly stated during a press conference just six months after 9/11:

“Who knows if he’s hiding in some cave or not. We haven’t heard from him in a long time. The idea of focusing on one person really indicates to me people don’t understand the scope of the mission. Terror is bigger than one person. He’s just a person who’s been marginalized. … I don’t know where he is. I really just don’t spend that much time on him, to be honest with you.”

Bush had given up on capturing Bin Laden just six months after 9/11? Really? Talk about a short attention span.

And then, there is this:

“By spring 2002, less than a year after the initial U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, President George W. Bush decided to pull most of America’s Special Operations Forces and CIA paramilitary operatives off the hunt for Osama bin Laden so they could be redeployed for a possible war in Iraq.” (from: http://nationalinterest.org/blog/the-skeptics/how-bush-lost-bin-laden-5273)

My, oh my, my, my! No wonder Reversible Mittens doesn’t want George W. Bush’s endorsement!

I don't know how many of you use Twitter, but its a great place

Submitted by bkeyser on Fri, 03/30/2012 - 10:00pm.

to check the pulse of all sorts of things. I don't watch CNN but apparently Toure (whatever the hell that is) was on Piers Morgan's show and they really went at each other over the most important issue of the day: Healthcare. No, wait. Not healthcare. Iran. Crap, not Iran or anything foreign policy related. Not energy either. Nope, they discussed the shooting in Florida. Based on what I've seen on Twitter, it was quite a battle.

But it's the pulse of America on this issue that I find fascinating. I wonder if Intrade has anything on riots or a race war? Sharpton is calling for an escalation and seemingly every back person who can find their way to a microphone is calling this a racial issue simply because the victim was black and the shooter was not. Obama, of course, helped make all this possible with his comments and it just makes me wonder if that's what the White House is looking for. How would a repeat of Watts in 65 or the LA riots of 92 help them? I'm not sure, but they're doing nothing to quell the possibility, so that leads me to believe they have no political interest indoing so.

Over and under date on the first buildings set ablaze in Sanford, Florida? I'm saying no later than April 15th. And if one white guy returns fire, watch out America, race relations may be set back 50 years.

The Maltese-flagged tanker is owned by shipping firm ISIM Tour Limited, which has been identified by the U.S. Department of Treasury as a front company set up by Iran to evade sanctions.

The M.T. Tour reached the Syrian port of Tartus at the weekend, where it loaded the 120,000 metric tonne (132,277 tons) cargo of light crude oil, according to the industry source and shiptracking data.

What the heck does Singapore need with OIL, they are surrounded by Indonesia, a known OPEC er for crying out loud?

In June 2011,
Syria and Iraq signed yet another Memorandum of Understanding to repair the existing 800,000 bbl/d
pipeline system, and to build two new ones, including a 1.5 million bbl/d pipeline to carry heavy Iraqi
crude oil, as well as a 1.25 million bbl/d pipeline to transport light crude oil from Iraq.

Has Keith Olbermann ever worked anywhere where he didn't nuke the bridge on his way out the door? His history of rudeness, arrogance, temper tantrums, and instability are common knowledge. Keith cannot see, or more correctly, WILL not see, that the common denominator in all of his employment blow-ups - is HIM. My question is, where do you go next when Current TV won't even have you? I'm waiting for a "Wayne's World" type public access show broadcast from his parents' basement. I'm sure that suing the Left's patron saint, world-savior, and electoral martyr, will go over big toward finding his next hard-left broadcast gig. Where else is Left (get it?) for the obnoxious, hateful, condescending, argumentative, self-aggrandizing jerk to go?

Of course, Current will obviously insist on a more principled, more likeable, replacement. What's that? They've hired a loathsome, disgraced scumbag, a high volume john, who cheats on his wife with high dollar hookers young enough to be his daughter? A man who prosecuted call girl rings as attorney general, while frequently using call girl rings himself? Wow - the Left is REALLY scraping the bottom of the barrell. Spitzer might be as much of a scumbag as Al Sharpton. It can't be more than 6 months before Anthony "Look At My" Weiner, gets a broadcast job on BSNBC.

You know, I am not surprised by this because it seems the first reports of dissension on just about everything are proving out to be iceberg tips anymore.

While I understand one weighs pros and cons when deciding to enter into *any* type of relationship with another person, where were the pros in this instance?

Keith is just another echo chamber amplifier, with a sense of self far exceeding reality..

Can someone do this?...

Submitted by AMR1960 on Sat, 03/31/2012 - 11:15am.

It's times like these when I wish I were better at the "Internet". Has anyone seen those You-Tube clips of the: "Last Days of Hitler"parodies where they replace the subtitles with pithy comments about someone(thing) else? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Perhaps Someone here could do one on Olbermann's firing...

olbermans next job

Submitted by truckinmann on Sat, 03/31/2012 - 5:03pm.

Has he ever actually worked in the first place? All I've ever heard is complaining from him. Well sometimes he does try to suck up to some prominent person, but that's not work. I think he should be a hot dog kiosk worker in Harlem, that way he might see Bill Clinton every now and then!
Maybe, seeing as he likes to give his opinion so much, he could be a bartender in some liberal enclave where he can then give out inane advice to drunken fools.
Either of these jobs would entail some actual real work, which I seriously doubt he's ever done, or he wouldn't be the blithering idiot he is today. Good luck Keith! I never watched more than 1 minute of any of your shows before you turned my stomach with your vile statements. Now you can turn some stomachs by selling cheap, out of date hot dogs, or cheap liquor! Have a wonderful life!

The Washington Post and TVNewser are reporting that

Keith Olbermann is going to Fox News!

For those who haven't heard the news, Keith Olbermann is finalizing a deal with Fox News CEO Roger Ailes. Olbermann will take over the hour prior to The O'Reilly Factor, replacing Shepard Smith's afternoon news program.

TMZ is reporting that Olbermann was planning his exit long before he was fired. So I assume his discussions with Fox News have been in the works for some time.

By the way, I seem to be losing track of time. Can someone tell me what day this is?

This means Olbermann will be back on MSNBC once his no-compete clause expires (assuming there is a no-compete clause to expire).
