D'oh! Chris Matthews Tells North Dakota Senator He Loves His State, Stared at Mt. Rushmore for Hours
Closing out an interview with Sen. John Hoeven (R) of North Dakota on today's Andrea Mitchell Reports, substitute host Chris Matthews thanked the former governor and said he "loved visiting your state this summer" and that he loves Mt. Rushmore, having "sat there for two hours and just looked up at it" during his trip to South Dakota over the summer.
Hoeven corrected Matthews, saying he was from North Dakota. Matthews retorted that he "liked South Dakota better anyway." [video follows page break]
"Sorry, I like North Dakota too. I go to Hal Rosenbluth's place up there. There's a ranch up there I like to hang out at," Matthews added. Yeah, right, Chris.
Of course, anyone in the news biz, or in politics, is bound to make goofy geographical gaffes like this. And yet Matthews and others in the media have mercilessly mocked Republicans like Michele Bachmann for gaffes like her having confused Concord, New Hampshire for Concord, Massachusetts or when the Minnesota Republican mistakenly claimed that John Wayne was born in Waterloo, Iowa.

Chris would be a great substitute for The View. Sharing an IQ with the nitwits.
Great point

I hadn't thought about that before, but now that you mention it, that's exactly where he belongs. He'd be a great fit with Behar and Goldberg.

Chris attended the same schools as Obama where he memorized the names of all 57 states. We understand that Chris' IQ is smaller than his shoe size and that if his brain were put on the top of a straight pin, it would resemble a BB rolling down a four lane highway.

I would have thought Matthews preferred either West Dakota or East Dakota, the 56th and 57th states of the union, given statehood in 2008.
Whatta dunce.
East Dakota

I'm sure that when the Leghumper was in North Dakota, gazing at Mt. Rushmore for two hours,he was probably imagining that Boy Barry's ugly jug-eared mug was up there, instead of those evil white guys................and I hope that he had some Kleenex or paper towels in his car to clean up afterwards.
I actually spent a summer in the Black Hills when I was about 16 years old - I even had my first car up there. It was a 50's Dodge, with virtually no brakes, which isn't a good situation for driving around those forested hilly roads. I've driven up to Mt. Rushmore, and it's quite a sight - and the documentary on how it was built is pretty good too. At the time, some off-the-wall Eastern European was just starting to blast away at a mountain to make a big rendition of Cochise or Sitting Bull or one of those famous Indian warrior chiefs.
I also got to learn something about the opposite sex that summer, but that's another story!!!

With a first name of 'Crazy", I think he might be an ancestor of one of the posters here - 'Pale Horse'.

Yeah, you're right, MD.............I was having trouble coming up with that when I was writing the post - and I was sure that neither one of my examples was correct - I should have said Pocohantas!!!
I'm sure that Crazy Horse was much more of a man than ol' Pale horse, from what I can remember about where he's coming from............there's not much of a comparison between an Indian warrior chief and the ghostly gelding.

Thanks, Matthew..........that one just rolled off my fingers. Actually, I"ve just come back from a day in town, doing business and personal errands and a lot of various things, so I haven't even had the chance to mix a black cherry/vodka yet, so I can't blame any of my ludicrous idiocy on the drinks!!!
But I have sung 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' a couple times recently with my buddies at the KORE beach thing, and there's a line in there about 'turning ghostly', so it might have sequed from that. I also gave a little thought to 'equestrian eunich'!!!
