MSNBC's Roberts Asks Liberal Ron Reagan if Newt Gingrich Is Carrying the Reagan Torch

"Coming up at 11am on @msnbctv, Gingrich a Reagan republican? We'll put the question to the President's son, Ron Reagan."

That's a teaser tweet MSNBC's Thomas Roberts put out shortly before taking the air to host his 11 a.m. Eastern hour of MSNBC Live. Of course, Ron Reagan is a political liberal, unlike his brother Michael, who is conservative and has been actively campaigning for Gingrich.

Yet neither on Twitter nor on his program did Roberts inform viewers that Ron Reagan is a political liberal nor that his brother Michael Reagan was backing Gingrich, although he noted that Michael is supporting the former House speaker. In an onscreen graphic, Ron Reagan was labeled a "political commentator," "son of Pres. Ronald Reagan," and "former radio talk show host," giving viewers no indication of Ron Reagan's politics.

Ron Reagan demurred when asked to speak, essentially, for his late father about whether the 40th president would approve of Gingrich today, but did add his opinion, underscoring that it was simply his opinion, that his mother Nancy "is not a big Newt Gingrich supporter."

NBC's Poster Boy

Submitted by Galvanic on Mon, 02/06/2012 - 1:28pm.

NBC/MSNBC has made Leftist Ron Reagan the keeper of his father's legacy, and uses him to bash Republicans. They then extrapolate from Reagan's comments that if his father were alive today, he'd be a Democrat.

It's pathetic.

And he continues to live down to the expectations of those around him.

Michael Reagan can feel good that his father chose him.

In the case of Lil' Ron, his father had to play the hand that was dealt him. MSNBC can spin this as hard as it can, but we all know whose views Ronald Reagan would support if he were alive today.

I think Michael knew him

I think Michael knew him longer than Ron. Michael was adopted but seems a lot more like the Reagan I remember. I'll take what he says to be correct.

From my reading on the

Submitted by redfish on Mon, 02/06/2012 - 9:51pm.

From my reading on the subject, Gingrich was a very vocal devotee to Reaganism, to the point that the was often to the right of Reagan when he felt that he wasn't living up to his principles. He criticized Reagan on his tax increase, for instance, and vocalized concerns that defense spending wasn't high enough.

He also, contrarily, expressed concerns when Reagan was spending more on defense than was allocated in the budget, and disappointment from the results of the Iran-Contra hearings were over.

From Reagan's perspective, his administration often didn't appreciate how confrontational Gingrich's style was. They considered him to be too much of an attack dog.

I would rather have an "attack dog"

than another, typical republican lap dog that licks the hand that slaps him around for being a moron.

Last few republican picks for President.

two bushes, both free-spenders with little backbone to stand up to corruption in congress or other areas of government.

A john McKainnedy that was entirely to eager to 'reach across the aisle' and hold hands with the most corrupt politicians outside the iron curtain countries.

bobby dole, the best little negotiator the democrat party ever had.

If ANY ONE of them had had the courage that Ronald Reagan had, this nation would not be in the trouble it is now.

ROMNEY?????!!!!

Minnie Mouse could beat obama as a write in, but romney doesn't stand a chance because he's too stoopid.

Golly! Ronny is looking worse for the wear!

Submitted by neutron on Mon, 02/06/2012 - 9:28pm.

I haven't seen Ronny Reagan for years. . . wow! What a change!
The face / eyes are a mirror to the soul.
Unless Ronny has an undisclosed disease, he is whacked!
His features used to be even: his eyebrows at the same height, his eyes also, and balanced, and his mouth perpendicular to the vertical line of his face.
Now, he's cut and chunked. His eyes are no longer co-altitude. His right eye is bagged and drooping, but his left eye is worse, askew, and listing to port.
His formerly Aquiline nose has become equine, and it lists to starboard.
His formerly perfect mouth now is a punched-line that is drifting to his left, and is threatening to capsize and overturn his face.

This is what happens when a person sells-out, and their souls are sold-out, forcing the person's conscience to rebel and express their inner turmoil -- the battle of right and wrong -- as a tabloid on their (now) twisted face.
Unless Ronny Reagan outs himself as having some strange prima facia disease, I will know him by the face he grew to mock his own soul.
