CBS News D.C. Station Slams Voter ID Bill in Va. As '"Jim Crow" Voting Legislation'

Update (18:46 EST): CBS has since changed the headline to "Controversial Voting Legislation Passes In Virginia Senate."

"'Jim Crow' Voting Legislation Passes in Virginia Senate," a CBS news headline on a Washington D.C. CBS news website alarmed readers tonight.

The AP/CBSDC story, filed at 10:33 p.m. Eastern on the website for CBS Radio's new all-news station WNEW, reports on the passage of a strict voter ID law in the Virginia State Senate. As we've noted previously, the Washington Post has reported, uncritically, Virginia Democratic legislators' Jim Crow comparisons, but it appears that CBS News is taking the Washington Post's bias even further (see screen capture below page break):

RICHMOND, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — A controversial bill that has drawn likeness to Jim Crow-era politics in Virginia has taken another big step forward.

The legislation that will force voters to bring identification to Virginia polling places on election day won Senate passage Monday after Republican Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling broke a 20-20 partisan deadlock.

Monday’s vote in the 40-member Senate marked what opponents felt was the last chance to stop the legislation. Opponents claim it would suppress votes of minorities, the elderly or disabled and students.

Passage into law is largely thought to be a formality at this point.

I've got a headline for them. 'The Press now completely in on Starting a Civil War by November'. Sub-header "Martial law declared in race riots..Obama cancels all elections.'

Anyone who cashes a check or has a credit card has an I.D. This is just horse-**** fear-mongering by the left again. Incidentally, it was the Democrats that instituted the Jim Crow laws.

Bunch of ass-*s.

Jim Crow laws here in Virginia, the separate rest rooms, the separate water fountains, all of it. And at the time the Virginia governor and legislature were all democrats. Back then it was called the Byrd Machine for Governor Harry F. Byrd, democrat.

Mis-remembering history

Submitted by Defuze1 on Tue, 02/07/2012 - 12:05pm.

But we all know theat the Republicans are Racists. So what if Lincoln was a Republican. So what if the Civil Rights act of 1964 was actulaly drafted during Ike's administration by blocked by Robert Byrd (D) in the Senate and LBJ (D) in the House. What is important is that when LBJ signed it , he remarked how it would sew up the Black vote for the Democratic Party for generations.

All those states that had poll taxes, weren't they primarily in states controlled by Democrats?

Here's the real reason why the left hates this law

Submitted by WhoIsJohnGalt on Tue, 02/07/2012 - 1:38pm.

They use the race thing as a reason because; a) it's so easy to cry racism and so hard to prove and, b) if they told you the real reason why they must fight tooth and nail to stop such laws, they'd blow themselves out of the water, to wit:

ILLEGAL ALIENS ARE THEIR BIGGEST POTENTIAL CONSTITUENCY, AND THEY MUST ALLOW THEM TO VOTE.

If this law, and others like it fail, there is no control over how many illegals can vote.

Blacks ought to be furious over the Democrat's use of them in this case; portraying them as scared little idiots, either they can't figure out how to get an ID, or they're afraid of getting hauled off to a lynching tree if they try and vote. Honestly...what century do they think this is??? It's a ruse, intended to get voting rights for illegals, any way possible.

I simply don't understand.

Submitted by ThePickle on Tue, 02/07/2012 - 2:50am.

My God is there not a Black Liberal alive that has had enough of the Libs and MSM describing them as so inept, so unable to get along in modern society?

Tired of hearing that expecting them to actually be able to get ID is something that is just beyond the capabilities of the average Black person?

That Black people simply cannot be expected to be able to do anything without the gentle hand of the Rich White Liberal guiding them and propping them up?

That they can't be expected to rise to the same level of their White counterparts? So much so that they have to have standards lowered for them as the Rich White Liberal knows that otherwise they just couldn't compete?

Black people fought tooth and nail to gain equality in this country. They were beaten, spat upon and in many cases killed, yet they fought on and finally persevered.

What the @&^% happened?

Why do they now seem content to be guided by those that to have so little respect for them? Why do they seem so hostile, even to members of their own race, to those that trumpet a message of self sufficiency?

I simply don't understand.....:(

I said it the other day: they are saying that blacks are too stupid and lazy to get proper ID.

Submitted by spiderdan on Tue, 02/07/2012 - 8:56am.

Without proper ID, the Democrats have all the fraud they need to cling to seats gained by enslaving minorities. With proper ID, the nation gets legitimate citizens doing the Lord's work -- voting for the best candidate. Enough with these idiots -- no felons, no ID, no vote. Just for kicks, imagine if -- along with mandatory drug screening -- welfare offices required two things: valid ID and a name of the father on a birth certificate to draw assistance for children born out of wedlock. How many jobs would that create? You know, mopping up all the pieces of liberal heads that have exploded....

Are you kidding?

Submitted by Quasi-socialist on Tue, 02/07/2012 - 9:04am.

Somebody somewhere has probably called it Nazi-like. So they could even say "has been called something out of a Nazi regime" and they would be right, but no more valid.

Yes, that's right, if they look at your ID and see that you are 1/16th African descent they can put you in the rear booth with the pen or chad-poker that doesn't work.

How is this anything like "Jim Crow"? What different treatment are people getting on the base of their race. But I get it, illegal aliens, who tend to be overwhelmingly of one ethnic distinction will be "disenfranchised".

Stupid Damnocrats

Submitted by HockeyKid on Tue, 02/07/2012 - 9:15am.

I laughed out loud when the Damnocrats claimed the law would disenfranchise "minorities and students". Students in Virginia (at least in our county and its neighbors) all have photo ID issued by the school, which they use to, among other things, BUY LUNCH and get student prices on football tickets. Further, every university and college issued photo ID to students and faculty.

So much for students being disenfranchised. Try again, Damnocrats--we all know you just want to keep it free and easy for your ACORN-style minions to stuff the ballot boxes.

Keep up the good work Virginia!

Submitted by iamsaved on Tue, 02/07/2012 - 10:37am.

Keep up the good work Virginia! When you have the liberals howling, you're doing something right (no pun intended).

I know, the left feel the minorities and poor are too stupid and incapacitated to obtain an id card even when they pick them up at the door, transport them to the office that issues the id, and pays for it too. Somehow that disenfranchises them.

These are the same people when their house is on fire, call the fire department and refuse too leave the burning building until a fireman personally enters the home and carry's them to safety. Sounds sort of like the dependent class in New Orleans when Katrina hit. Thanks liberal/progressives or whatever dainty name you've chosen for yourselves this week.

It's going great in Virginia now!

Submitted by WhoIsJohnGalt on Tue, 02/07/2012 - 1:50pm.

We have the Governorship, the House of Delegates, and the State Senate. Passing laws that could not get passed with any kind of Democrat in the way. We are now awaiting the Governor's signature on repeal of the "one gun per month" gun control law. Both houses passed it!

You should have heard the Democrats wail and cry when they realized that yes, the Senate is tied 20-20, but the Lt. Governor has the tie-breaking vote and he's...a Republican!

"Hey, wait, he can't actually break a tie! Sure, the law says that, but that wasn't what the law intended! It was only supposed to be for procedural matters!"

Uh-huh...where is that written?

"Well, it's not written in the law...BUT THAT WAS WHAT THEY MEANT when they wrote the law!!!"

Sorry, you lose, tie-breaker goes to the Republican Lt-Gov.

I have to admit,

Submitted by HockeyKid on Tue, 02/07/2012 - 3:58pm.

I'm enjoying being a Virginian right now. There's plenty of "sensible gun legislation" (I hate it when the left employs that phrase, so I hope they hate it when I use it) happening in Richmond lately, and the lefties are losing their minds. It's great spectator sport.
