MSDNC: In Chat with DNC Chief, Wagner Spins Oil Pipeline Cancellation As 'Counterintuitive'

Yesterday MSNBC's Alex Wagner treated viewers of her noon Eastern Now program to a panel that featured Obama Super PAC staffer Bill Burton. Today the promotion of pro-Obama spin continued with Wagner herself attempting to help DNC chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz spin the Obama/Clinton State Department's decision to scrap the Keystone XL pipeline project.

"Is there a concern, though, that this, as he pushes a jobs message that this looks sort of counterintuitive for him to say, 'I know this may create some jobs but I'm not going to, I'm not going to pass it, I'm not going to give the permits'?" the former Center for American Progress staffer asked. [MP3 audio here; video update follows page break]

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Wasserman Schultz, as is her prerogative as Democratic Party chief, dutifully defended the White House and attacked Republicans. But rather than hit Wasserman Schultz with anything else, particularly that some labor unions -- a key constituency of the Democratic coalition -- would benefit from the "shovel-ready" jobs that the project would create, Wagner turned to her liberal panelists seeking their advice to Wasserman Schultz and the Obama team on messaging:

I'm still baffled by the resistance to, from some corners, Obama's message. What do you guys think he needs to do to make this a compelling message through to November of this year?

Turning again to Wasserman Schultz, Wagner complained about the "mountain of negative ads," and asked her "What is your favorite line of attack that has been lobbied [sic] at Mitt Romney so far?"

<<Like this post? Help us take on media bias by donating to NewsBusters (there's also a PayPal option on that page). Without the support of our readers, NewsBusters would not be possible.>>

To her credit, Wagner's next question deviated a bit from the softball template, but even then was focused on sharpening the Democrats' talking points on an embarrassing double standard:

In opening up Romney's record at Bain, are you at all concerned at the fact that President Obama has just named as his acting director of the OMB a former Bain, grand poobah at Bain. Does that concern you at all as we sort of dissect what Bain did, that someone in the administration was in fact employed there?

Wasserman Schultz, of course, failed to directly answer the question, rehashing her attack on Romney. Wagner, of course, failed to press Wasserman Schultz on her evasion of the question.

Is it any wonder that critics call the network MSDNC?

Disgusting. And no matter how many you squash (her liberal lies), there's always a horde to take their place.

This woman apparently only has two ill fitting suits, too, which bugs me. Maybe she could borrow a couple from her idol, Bela Pelosi.

Keystone Pipeline Cancellation

Submitted by Blonde on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 4:01pm.

I am not amused.

At all. Not with Little Debs and her big fat lying mouth, not with suck-up media, nor media apologists for this administration's execrable economic record.

And Barry whining that it was the Republican's fault for making him decide in 60 days makes me want to break something.  He needs to get off his lazy ass, get out of bed before noon, and DO SOME FREAKIN WORK!

racists this way

Submitted by jon_torlin on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 5:28pm.

I prefer to think of myself as a neo-racist conservative myself, since the original term of racist doesn't match what they are calling it this days.

But seriously, who is really surprised by this decision?  I would have been surprised if he actually HAD let it go ahead and let people get some jobs.

So those of you who still think Soetoro is just in over his head, that he's incompetent, let this sink into your brains:

HE'S NOT TRYING TO HELP THIS COUNTRY, HE'S TRYING (and succeeding) TO DESTROY THIS COUNTRY IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE.

If anyone else thinks otherwise, you are either a damned fool or a collaborator, the term I would use for someone who's for this bogus potus because what other kind of person is there?

Barry was on vacation for 17 of those days, on our dime in that Asian paradise, Hawaii.

How dare those evil job killers in the Republican party make him think about doing his job?  Not to mention, intrude on his quality time in the WH, if he's ever there?

And, execrable record on jobs?  He'd have to improve his record vastly to rise to the level of execrable.

⇒ Counterintuitive?

Submitted by Cool Arrow on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 4:25pm.

Perhaps there's a protected, subsidized status for people so lacking of "intuition?  Can we get Greece to pay them like the kleptomaniacs, Pedophiles, and exhibitionists recently covered under the Greeks with Disabilities Law.

I swear!  I'm a man, and it didn't take any insider-info-intuition to know which way Obama was going to decide on Keystone.

But I'll tell you this.  I'm plenty intuitive to have known beforehand that the Liberal Media and Debbie WashYourHair-Schlitz would find a counterintuitive spin to Obama's flaccid surrender to the Sasquatch believers.

There's a solid conservative running against her, by the name of Karen Harrington. Wouldn't it be great to unseat the little poodle? We unseated the other Pelosi lapdog, Ron Klein, and replaced him with the GREAT Allen West. Anything's possible.

Corporate money -vs- gov't money

Submitted by pockets64 on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 4:46pm.

I keep hearing this privately-funded pipeline in terms of the government's buzz words. "Shovel-ready" and some tripe about unemployment checks generating more jobs.

All the gov't needed to do was to say "yes" and stand back. Jobs would be springing up all up and down the nation.

What a disaster.

and he or the EPA will kill it before it starts.

This is possibly a choice of preferring to buy Venezuelan crude over Canadian crude - especially when the pipeline will be advantageous to Koch Industries.  I believe Soros has sold his interest in Venezuelan oil or this would have been really interesting. Right now it is just the idea of our President choosing a socialist dictatorship over a socialist free-market nation. Can't really say there are any surprises there.
