WaPo Style Section Features 'Occupy' Marcher Denouncing Work: 'You're Ruining Your Life'

GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich has been roundly excoriated in the media for the "toxic" suggestion that Occupy Wall Street protesters need to stop freeloading, take a bath, and get a job. Yet in a sympathetic Style section photo essay today entitled "The March: Occupy protesters trek 231 miles from New York to the White House," Washington Post editors highlighted as the march's poster boy one "Dylan Bozlee of Hilo, Hawaii."

Bozlee is a self-described anarchist and University of Hawaii dropout who, the Post notes, "said he'd rather travel across American than get a job." "Do I want to work? Only if I wanted a home, wife, kids and a dog. If not, I think you're ruining your life," Bozlee told the Post.

Before the march Bozlee taught "passerby about the concept of warfare by the lower classes against the upper class" at the Occupy Wall Street squatters' camp at Zuccotti Park.

Post staffer Elizabeth Flock noted that the march started on November 9 with 21 hikers and "a $3,000 check from Occupy Wall Street." But alas, "the marchers soon found they didn't need the money, as they received donations of food and cash, cigarettes and deodorant from local residents and passerby."

In other words, the group has successfully freeloaded off the generosity of strangers practically the entire march. Strangers who, I'm sure, shower in the morning before heading off to work.

The Style section's coverage this morning took up most of pages C1 and C9 and was comprised of six photos with captions as well as an annotated map of the route.

This isn't the first time the Post has promoted the Occupy movement. On November 10, the Post devoted nearly four pages of puffery about Occupy D.C. in a special "Occupied Style" section.

There intent was to march to the Capitol to bring the message of the 99% directly to the Super Committee. Oops, the Not-so-Super Committee adjourned last Friday.

When you wake up at the crack

Submitted by Ken Shepherd on Tue, 11/22/2011 - 12:45pm.

When you wake up at the crack of noon, you can only march so long before you have to stop for the day.

wth?

Submitted by texusmc on Tue, 11/22/2011 - 12:47pm.

10.5 months to go 231 miles? It would take Marines a little over 9 days! And that is going slow, 25 miles a day @ 2.5 miles an hour would take 10 hours. rest the other 14hrs and then hit it again. but also they would be bringing all of their food, clothing, gear and oh yeah a HYGIENE KIT!!!!!!

Over 10 months? kidding me? Newt is right! get a shower and get a job.

D'oh! November 9, not March 9. I had "march" stuck in my head so much I typed that instead of November. Mea culpa on the typo.

Dylan best course of action is to walk back to Hawaii

Submitted by Galvanic on Tue, 11/22/2011 - 1:03pm.

Since he doesn't want a job, a family, or (apparently) a future, one might ask why he bothers to protest anything.

There are different types of anarchy, but anarchists work. They certainly don't want more government; they want less government -- a lot less.

This lad just doesn't want to be an adult. He is obviously grasping for some sort of romanticized label to describe himself, but I think lazy-ass leech is more appropriate.

What a maroon!

Submitted by Ed Gregory on Tue, 11/22/2011 - 1:07pm.

He left Hawaii to become a traveling slacker? How dumb. Whether he realizes it or not, revolting against your country requires effort and could be construed as "work"; he's just not getting paid (much) for it. It's certainly an occupation. Maybe he'll stop if somebody clues him in.

By the way, the picture where he's getting his feet taped? That's what emergency rooms across the country will look like in a few years if obamacare doesn't get derailed.

These Idiots Never Think About the Implications of What They Say

Submitted by Darks Shadow Show on Tue, 11/22/2011 - 1:24pm.

Yeah!!!! Who needs a job when everyone can just sit around, doing nothing, stagnating their whole life until it ends in a meaningless death? If no one had jobs, the economy would completely collapse and never recover, then no one at all would provide food or shelter to anyone else, so these people wouldn't be able to mooch anyway. What's not to like about that!? /sarc

Occuposer.

How lame does one need be to drop out of the U. of Hawaii? Did someone once ask him to buy the weed for a change and he felt too pressured?

In two weeks of walking, 21 dropouts from society drop out again, this time from their dumbass march. This is a pattern. It is not news.

The Children's Crusade -- Re-enacted

When they first announced the intent to march from NYC to DC, I thought they were going to get hundreds. But 21? Seems more like a Monty Python sketch.

Forrest Gump had a bigger gaggle when he was walking cross-country.

As infestations and infections continue to rise in these Occupy camps, we'll begin to see people pushing wheelbarrows around while yelling "Bring out yer dead!"  Score a few more jobs created by Obama.

I wonder if the Occuposer is a Freegan? Would be another way to avoid honest work while retaining royalty status amongst these loons.

The food, the cash, and the cigarettes I can understand. But I wonder about the deodorant. Was it meant as an insult, or is masking one's stench an acceptable substitute for bathing in OWS circles?

More muddled thinking and messages

Submitted by Galvanic on Tue, 11/22/2011 - 6:44pm.

According to the article, OWS has called for another "day of action . . . in protest of the 12 lawmakers who failed to reach a deal that would ease the tax burden on the '99 Percent. "

Huh?

The Super Committee wasn't tasked with doing any such thing.  In fact, the core dispute along party lines was about how much to raise taxes, not reduce them.

But OWS needs math help.  47% of Americans paid no Federal income tax in 2010, and a number of them actually got money from Washington in the form of Earned Income Tax Credit.  If half of American already pay no Federal income tax, then how much "tax burden" needs to be eased on the "99%?"

As a member of the 53% who did pay Federal income tax (and plenty of it), I can reaffirm that the idiots in OWS in no way represent me.

And the Left says that Tea Partiers are uninformed?

Submitted by ant on Wed, 11/23/2011 - 1:17pm.

The Bulletin's actually been gone for years. Shame too, it was the better paper of the two. BTW, a few years back the Stinkquirer, as we call it here, got a huge tax-break from the Rendell administration to keep it afloat. Now how eager would that paper be to note negative aspects of Rendell after such a gift?

At least one of them finally admitted that they don't WANT to work. I haven't heard many come right out and say it, although that's what they really mean. This has nothing to do with right or wrong, wall street banks, privileged or not, it's all about the "lifestyle of the bum"
How nice it would be to think that all your needs will\should be supplied without you having to do a lick.

Who raised these spoiled, selfish heatens? No one, apparently.
