Chris Matthews: Obama Could Lose Because White Voters Have Higher Standards for Black Politicians
Chris Matthews is bracing for a potential Obama defeat next November, and he's ready to lay the blame for an Obama loss on racist white voters who supposedly hold black politicians to a higher standard than white politicians.
In a segment this afternoon with Michael Eric Dyson and James Peterson, the "Hardball" host laid out his theory that "some white voters" will often give a black politician just one term in office but refuse to vote for their reelection unless they do "really, really good" in office.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Professor Peterson, let me ask you about white votes.
Do you have a sense as you've looked at politics in America that there are some white voters who will vote for an African-American say once? And they will hold that person to a very rigorous standard. Perhaps a much higher standard than they would a white politician.
And they'll give them one shot and then they'll dump them the next time.
I look at this, I look at the Ed Brooke. I look at the senator from Illinois. I think about this--

It's because the black politicians who are conservatives have set the bar so high, we've come to expect a lot out of them. Thankfully, they are not challenged to meet those high expectations. Mr. West, Herman Cain, Condi Rice, and JC Watts are all excellent examples of how representatives and others who have dedicated themselves to public service should conduct themselves. However, and unlike Chrissy, we don't have to forget that they are black when admiring what they do, because we don't care what color their skin is, we think of them as Americans. Libs have Maxine "No Housing Crisis Here" Waters, Charlie "Rent Controlled" Rangel, and William "Cool Cash" Jefferson on their side of the aisle, proving that corruption and criminality are color-blind, even if Chrissy isn't.

Moreover, voters have to reach a high hurdle of disgust against minority candidates to vote them out of office, because the liberal media downplays their criminal and ethical lapses and labels people who object to the candidates as racist ignorant extremist xenophobes. But to me, Matthews has a some weight and a few reputable creds (SF Bee, Tip O'Neil's staff), so I tend to listen more to what he has to say. And what he has been saying pretty regularly since O'Bama was elected is that the conservatives in the country don't want a black man to succeed, that they might even be preparing to get rid of him, that all the opposition to O'Bama's plans are nothing but racist, and that if he is defeated in 2012, it's because of racism. That's scary to me because Matthes is leading the charge of white commentators to give credence to the kind of racist conspiracy theories you'd expect to hear from Farrakhan, Shabazz, and even Rev. Jesse "sugar daddy" Jackson and Rev. Tawana Sharpyton.
The Wide Mouth Frog has a Wiener bump in his trousers for this idea of racial hostilities. You can practically smell the pheremones through the computer monitor. Don't forget, btw, that Larry O'Donnell was a writer on the West Wing and, IIRC, was co-wrote some of the episodes about civil violence, such as the racial dustup on a Georgetown bar with Dule Hill or the presidential assassination.
This blathering on about how the conservatives are motivated by racial hatred just makes it easier to think about it, and when O'B is defeated (or withdraws in favor of Hillary), then everybody looks at the stars and connects the dots the way they've been trained to think.
