Al Sharpton to Join MSNBC As a Host; He's a Perfect Fit for Network
Update: Our good friend Brian Maloney at Radio Equalizer was ahead of the curve with a post on July 14 about signals that Sharpton was joining MSNBC.
When MSNBC shuffled Ed Schultz up to the 10 p.m. slot they placed left-wing blogger and radio host Cenk Uygur (pronounced jenk you-gur) in the 6 p.m. Eastern time slot that Ed vacated as an interim host.
But Uygur has been curiously absent from his dinnertime perch since early July, with the Rev. Al Sharpton filling in but not explaining why Uygur was out. Yesterday MSNBC announced that Uygur had officially left the network and today the New York Times is reporting that Sharpton's hiring as a full-time host is "imminent."
The past is prologue, so a look back at Sharpton's wacky pronouncements to date should be instructive. We at NewsBusters have a full archive on Al Sharpton that you can find here, but I thought we'd highlight a few items that stand out.
Who can forget the time, for example, when Sharpton insisted on March 21, 2010 that "we have to say the American public overwhelmingly voted for socialism when they elected President Obama"? Sharpton was defending passage of ObamaCare and dismissing Republicans who claimed that the bill's passage was against the wishes of the American public.
It was a fine moment of raw honesty from the good Reverend, but as we've seen in the past two weeks, Sharpton has been remarkably good at adapting his message to toe MSDNC's party line.
Sharpton, you may recall, has been portraying Obama as more Reaganesque than the Tea Party, and saying that as a way to compliment Obama and bash conservatives over the debt ceiling fight.
One might even argue Sharpton is ahead of MSNBC's bias curve. In April 2010, Sharpton agreed with a guest on his radio program who suggested that Rush Limbaugh's political commentary may set off unbalanced, violent people. MSNBC really picked up that drumbeat in early 2011 after the Gabby Giffords shooting.
The days of Sharpton proudly declaring Obama to be socialistic may be long gone, but his penchant for race-baiting is sure to shine through.
For example, just last month, Sharpton suggested Republican presidential Rick Santorum was racist for saying that America "was great before 1965." Santorum was referring to the advent of LBJ's Great Society, including programs like Medicare, but Sharpton hinted that Santorum really meant the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
Sharpton's deranged view of Republican candidates doesn't stop at Santorum, of course. In July 2009, following Michael Jackson's death, Sharpton failed to call out a caller on her crazy theory that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin may have had something to do with Jackson's death:
FEMALE CALLER: He (Michael Jackson) is truly the soundtrack of my life. I also have a theory about Sarah Palin as well and I'm going to put it out there on radio, hopefully someone can investigate.
But, I think maybe she did something to Michael Jackson. Maybe there's a scandal there. Maybe she's stepping down because something's about to come out. I don't know, but I'm gonna just put it out there on your show so we'll see.
SHARPTON: All right, thank you for your call, Ashley. That's interesting. I'll put it out, we'll see. I don't know.
No objective journalist by any stretch, Al Sharpton is a media-hungry race hustler who has, with the media's help gradually been mainstreamed to the point of acceptable employment by the liberal "establishment" at MSNBC.
He's a perfect fit for a network devoted to Obama boosterism and trashing conservatives.

Now, if Fox would just do something about their five o'clock timeslot.
The Five at Five gets exactly five seconds before I realize it's on and change the channel to Ina Garten's show. Not that I watched Beck, but my mom liked his show. This group would be okay if (1) they had a strong moderator to (2) eliminate all of the crosstalk, and (3) they need to blow up Bob Beckel on the air to get me back.
I like Eric Bolling, Dana Perino, and Greg Guttfeld....Andrea Tantoros more than the brunette prosecutor (can't think of her name).
Fox better figure this out quickly or their 5 o'clock hour will look like MSNBC. Better yet, dump The Five and give us a whole hour with Megyn Kelly....or let Cavuto have a second hour.

I don't get why intelligent and skeptical people are duped by Al Sharpton because he constantly pops up in various places to give his opinion on this or that. Dr. Phil used to be one of my guilty pleasures until Sharpton became a reoccurring guest on his show, and Glenn Beck *YES GLENN BECK* praised the guy and even had him on his show prior to 9/28!
While Beck was kissing up to Sharpton, I could tell that Sharpton looked extremely uncomfortable. I thought he was constantly waiting for Beck to call him out on something, but it never happened. Then just a month or so later Sharpton stabs Beck in the back by holding his anti-Beck 9/28 rally on the same day. I could not believe a man who repeatedly talks about being stabbed in the back by a photographer for some liberal news magazine would fall for Sharpton!
The guy isn't even photogenic because he's constantly doing that exaggerated frown. I'm glad the loon is on MSNBC and hope he continues to stab Beck in the back on a daily basis. Beck was a fool for ever trusting that guy.

"Sharpton was licensed as a minister at the age of 9 as a Pentecostal and again as an adult as a Baptist. He has no formal religious training. As Sharpton's notoriety has increased he has spread out, running for President as a Democrat in 2004. Part of the joke of the late night talk show circuit was that Sharpton wanted his very first job to be President of the United States. Today he is a radio talk show host, guest TV speaker and liberal activist focused almost exclusively on racial issues."
Perhaps--just a thought--
we all need heroes? Well I believe we do. I know I do. But what is a hero?? That is hard to define. Most of us take pride in the accomplishments of someone we can relate to whether through ethnicity, religion, color, hometown or myriad forms of relationships.
Although a Boston Braves fan, being of Italian (among other) heritage, I reveled in the success of Joltin Joe Dimaggio. _"Who says Italians can't play ball???" -Well nobody, but that was the thought that occurred to many of us to help us in our quest to have a hero. We, being in Boston, transferred some of this ethnic pride to Dom Dimaggio who was with the Red Sox.
So, who is Sharpton a hero to? He is hero to many black citizens who see him as turning the game on the white man. Most people, in my less than humble opinion, do not listen or learn from all the information that is available to them. Men of lesser or minimal accomplishment see Sharpton as "kickin' whiteys butt". And indeed he is. He is, perhaps , a bigger racist than anyone else in the sense that he has won acceptance on the public stage with no true acting skills.
White celebrities- news figures, in particular have seen the impact Rev Al has on the black citizens of our nation and in a quiet fear of being perceived as "racist", bent over backward to "prove " they are not. I leave it to you to try to understand how being perceived as "racist" is such a bad thing, especially at at time when the word is used against anyone at any time, when an argument is being lost.
Perhaps some reader of this little post will explain to me why so many Americans try so hard to find that they have Amerind blood in their veins. Supposedly there is some in my family. I can only guess that after years of Howard Zinn's teaching in our elhi schools, all of us leave with guilt feelings about "our" treatment of the Amerinds. I see a causal relationship in that.
As for me, I am content within myself that I feel that color, religion or ethnicity has little to do with my evaluation of my fellow man. I do admit to one major prejudice, I do not suffer fools gladly and I think we have, in all races and ethnic groups and abundance of fools in America. ---and the entire world.
If you do not believe me then, explain why Western Europe seems to be enslaving its people to Islamic invasions and America is being conquered by illegal immigrant invaders.
Also, back to the theme, why is Sharpton, a sharp of the first order, getting a bully pulpit in America? Do you watch him? I don't and will not. His fame(?) should have lasted as long as a streaker's, in days past.
