Media Mash with Brent Bozell: Japan Tsunami Edition
The liberally-biased mainstream media didn't let a catastrophe go to waste, using the Japanese tsunami as an opportunity to suggest, falsely, that Republicans would like to cut the budget for NOAA in such a way that would threaten the Pacific tsunami warning system.
NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told the audience of last night's "Hannity":
They're saying Republicans have voted to end tsunami warning centers in Hawaii. The reality is the budget of this agency is $5.6 billion. It's up 25 percent since Obama was elected president. The proposed cuts are $358 million, that's a drop in the bucket. It's not targeted to any specific program with that massive agency.
Bozell and Hannity also addressed the perennial liberal media meme that budget-slashing Republicans are out to "kill" Big Bird and raze Sesame Street:
SEAN HANNITY, Fox News host: Big Bird makes a fortune. He doesn't need any of our [tax] money!
BRENT BOZELL, Media Research Center founder: Sean Hannity, this story is astonishing. And [NBC's] Lisa Myers and [ABC's] Jake Tapper are much better reporters than this. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.
Lisa, Sesame Street is making so much money, not for the taxpayer, by the way, but for the people who own Sesame Street, that if you were to privatize PBS tomorrow, there would be the biggest bidding war you ever saw from the networks to try to get Sesame Street themselves. It is making hundreds of millions of dollars every year in gross merchandising sales.

But NOAA should receive ZERO cuts...

NOAA is benevolent government agency that provides a legitimate host of public services vital for US commerce all for fractions of a penny on the tax dollar. While we are indeed in the midst of an impending debt crisis, it is ludicrous that anyone would propose cuts to a critical science agency that doesn't even make a blip on the radar of the discretionary spending.
If Congress and the President want to get serious, they must turn their attention to serious reform in the runaway mandatory entitlement spending, a certainty brought on by an aging population, which is the fundamental problem. End of story.
I'm not sure how you can call it a 'cut'

Considering the budget for NOAA has gone up by 1.5 Billion (Billion with a B) in the last 2 years, $350 Million is an adjustment. Based my experience as a contractor working with various government agencies, across the board cuts of 15-20% could be made to all agencies without any impact on their efficiency or productivity(?)."cut the budget for

"cut the budget for NOAA" Don't they get their forecast from Weather.com? j/k Btw, why does Drudge now link to hacks like PrisonPlanet and InfoWars? Alex Jones is never skeptical of a conspiracy, especially if he can call attention to himself.Great segments, but,,

MSM's Unscrupulous Exploitation of Tragedy
Submitted by Boil It Down on Sat, 03/19/2011 - 12:50am.
The maddening part of the MSM's dishonest and partisan exploitation of the catastrophes in Japan is that it's not unique to their mode of operation. In fact, it is glaringly apparent that manipulating tragedies in order to pander to a political entity or philosophy is required of them. It makes me wonder how there can be that many reprehensible people gathered together in a profession that should be looking out for our best interests.
Add to this that the causes they've taken up are fallacious and it makes them just that more deplorable. They are backing the further looting of taxpayer dollars, which pits them against the public rather than fulfilling their responsibilities as journalists to protect us.
I think it is worth mentioning that all these unscrupulous and undeserving occupiers of journalistic employment are culpable in the damage Obama and the Democrats have perpetrated on our Republic. It saddens me that they will never be held accountable except perhaps in history's record in the future.
