NPR Notes 'U.S. Struggles to Evacuate Libya, Others Don't'
Earlier today I noted that mainstream media have not been critical of the Obama administration's poor efforts at evacuating American nationals from Libya.
Oddly enough it appears the taxpayer-subsidized NPR has.
From Bill Chappell's Feb. 24 blog post, "U.S. Struggles to Evacuate Libya; Others Don't":
U.S. efforts to evacuate hundreds of Americans from Libya are being stymied by bad weather on the coast — and by the refusal of Moammar Gadhafi's government to allow American charter planes to land there.
Some 285 people have been sitting on the Maria Dolores, a chartered ferry, since Wednesday, as the ship's crew waits for the stormy seas to calm, according to State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley says.
The ship isn't likely to leave port until Friday, according to reports.
In a Newscast spot, Michele Kelemen reports that 40 of the ferry's passengers are U.S. embassy personnel and their families, 127 of the passengers are private U.S. citizens, and the rest are from other countries. And some of the American passengers are identified as security personnel.
The weather did not stop China from using two large ferries to take 4,500 Chinese workers to safety on the island of Crete, the AP reports. And aircraft from France and Britain have been able to get citizens from those two countries out of harm's way.

The United States has to have OSHA inspect the safety of the vessel and mandate alterations where necessary to meet federal requirements. Proper diversity of personnel employed must be ensured to fulfill quotas. All vessel personnel must be union members in good standing. It must be ensured that no member of the vessel's staff is doing any inkling of a job that is the contractual role of another member. If so, a grievance will be filed immediately and proper disciplinary action taken. If there is any food on board, an FDA inspection must take place before the vessel can be undocked. This will require a 3 day waiting period. A navigation plan must be filed with the Coast Guard. This will be approved within 2 days. Please call between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday thru Friday for status. Note that all representatives are quite busy at this time, but your call is very important to them.
A+ for GregE.

We will never recover from the "presidency" of the former community pisser-offer, and I don't care who wins the WH in November of 2012, as it isn't going to matter.
Not even a little bit.
I truly feel for those of you who cannot see that, regardless of which side of the aisle your shadow falls upon.

I won;t go so far as to say "never", but I will say that because of what has already taken place, it is going to get worse, possibly a lot worse, before it starts to get better.
We have to start by Restoring our Constitution. That is going to be painful because of how far from its boundaries this nation has drifted. Continuing to drift may be more comfortable in the here and now, but it will only make resotring it that much harder.
We have to face what has happened, over a century, honestly and openly in order to address it properly.
Constitutional Amendments are in order, several of them, both adding and subtracting important factors. Most importantly, each branch of goverment must be returned to its proper role and held within the Constitutional boundaries that bind them.
Paraphrasing James Carville. "It's the Constitution, Stupid!"
I would offer that NPR could even play a positive role in bringing that to fruition. When it comes down to it, the question has to be asked and the choice has to be posed.
Either the Constitution matters, or it doesn't. Which is it?

Like the PM and Queen of England, while our citizens cool their heels awaiting transit, the president has offered them the choice of a set of DVDs (that only be played in the U.S.) or iPod Touch with his "best" speeches on them. Meanwhile, he is working hard on his golf game, hoops, and listening to Mo'town tunes at the WH when he is not taking a lazer like focus on jobs!Hawaiian pompom crab

Naw dude, its not that complicated. In fact all of that hasn't even come into play yet.
Seems no one can find Lybia on the map!
Perhaps that's cuz Lybia is the name of a type of Crab, "Lybia edmondsoni" ,
Specifically the “Hawaiian pompom crab”.

Let the somali pirates take over the ferry. They'll take it out of the harbor and send a ransom note to the obambi administration. Since there are officials of the administration on board - embassy folks - the ransom will be the same as the "Bet" in the movie, "Trading Places," ONE DOLLAR! obama will then instruct an aircraft carrier group to sail towards Libya to "Negotiate" with the pirates.......he'll offer them ONE DOLLAR, or, a Chevy Volt for each pirate. They're smart....they'll take the dollar! Since our warships no longer get involved with fighting - they probably don't have ammunition on board.....but they DO have sailorettes, half of whom are, "With child." The pirates take over all the ships in the carrier group and use them to start their own navy. The pirates then marry all the sailorettes. The ceremonies are done by the captain of the aircraft carrier. He doesn't do "War" anymore - just weddings....... and spends most of his time watching re-runs of the "Love Boat." The ferry is released and sails off. The pirates take the ships and their brides back to Pirateville. Everyone lives happily ever after. The state run media can now trumpet a magnificent diplomatic victory for obambi. Chrissy will get a double leg tingle!
You know the best part, Herb?

If the pirates think some of the male sailors are cute, they can "marry" them now!
Chrissy doesn't have enough legs to handle a tingle like that.

The only thing obama had going for him up to now was the MSM-invented reputation as "The Great Community Organizer".
That reputation is now sitting fat-a$$ed on a dis-organized ferry off Lybia's coast, dead in the water.

and we STILL can't get one stinking ferry boat out of Libya.
Imagine if the Wuss and his administration were in charge in 1948... "No, of course we can't do an airlift." Bye bye West Berlin. Instead, the Allies were able to get in 200,000 flights in a year. 200,000.
BTW, if you want a good laugh, take a gander at the current state of the "Libyan Air Force" that we apparently are afraid of.

Air Traffic Control Revolutionized.
Bringing the airplanes in and out of Tempelhof, Gatow, and Tegel airfields in Berlin at three minute intervals in all kinds of weather was one of the most difficult and stressful jobs of the entire airlift operation. This job fell to the military air traffic controllers and communication specialists of the US and British Air Forces, plus many civilian specialists brought over to assist. In 1948-49, these units were known in the US Air Force as Airways and Air Communication Services. They supplied the radio navigation aids, manned the control towers, radio ranges, radio beacons, radar equipment, and air traffic control facilities. Although much of the technology used then has been overtaken by the revolutionary developments in electronics in the 1960s and 1970s, the procedures developed during the Berlin Airlift became a vital building block for the modern air traffic control system as we know it today.
The Berlin Airlift had or could have had sufficient bases to feed planes into Berlin, but there were only two Berlin airfields available to accept planes that had to fly in restricted air corridors over or near Soviet airfields. If planes could not land, they had only a 20 mile radius to circle in, and that almost directly over the two Berlin airfields.
Good news: air craffic control still uses vacuum tubes.
You Didn't Build That.
