AP, ABCNews.com Omit Convicted Killer's Illegal Immigration Status, MS-13 Gang Membership
Correction: My initial post incorrectly conveyed that Chandra Levy was an intern for then-Rep. Gary Condit (D-Calif.). She was in fact an intern for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
"Salvadoran Immigrant Ingmar Guandique Found Guilty of Murdering D.C. Intern Chandra Levy [12:45 p.m. ET]"
That was the breaking news headline that was blasted to my inbox from ABCNews.com regarding today's murder conviction of the suspect in the 2001 murder of federal government intern Chandra Levy.
In the Associated Press story by Matthew Barakat at the ABCNews.com website, there is no mention of the fact that Guandique is an illegal immigrant nor of the fact that he is involved in the ruthless gang Mara Salvatrucha, more commonly known as MS-13. This despite the fact that numerous news reports during Guandique's trial noted that he often wore turtleneck shirts in the courtroom to hide his gang tattoo.
You can clearly see that gang tattoo in an April 2009 file photo ABCNews.com included in their breaking news story.

You know they could not identify him as an illegal immigrant because they had already identified the Congressman who was caught up in this as a Democrat. You either identify him as an illegal and drop the "D" from the Congressman or keep the "D" and drop the "Illegal", you cannot have both in the libturd hand book.

Decades when I was in the Navy serving in the Norfolk, Virginia area, the local MSM was notorious for including a suspect's military service in their crime reporting regardless of its significance.
A headline might read "EX-NAVY MAN RAPES 13 YEAR-OLD GIRL," but when you read the story, you found out that he was kicked out of the Navy 15 years earlier.
Thanks to NB, we've seen the same thing with politicians and scandal. If the politician is a Republican, the MSM always includes party affiliation. If the pol is a Dem, no party label.

Thanks for your service. I was stationed in the Hampton Roads area, too, "back when". I remember those anti-military headlines. There was one that ran something like "Airman Robs Liquor Stores", and it turned out the punk had washed out of Basic and never so much as set foot on a local military installation. It was nothing but a purposeful tar job.
OTOH, the LSM holds up jackasses like John Frickin' Kerry and that Blumenthal joker from Connecticut, who inflate their own service for political purposes--why they're just American heroes.

Submitted by winston smith on Mon, 11/22/2010 - 5:36pm.
A violent illegal, a gang member and he'd already been twice convicted of assaulting 2 other women in Rock CReek park. Talk about the wheels of justice turning real slow....
But I'm sure the liberal/leftist politicians are hanging their heads in sorrow today-- but not for Chandra --- an oppressed "undocumented worker", here to do the kind of work spoiled Americans just won't do, being convicted in a Washington DC court room for the murder of some suburban middle-class white chick. There is no justice in this world.
Yes, Grandique's an "illegal" and Condit's a "D"...
Submitted by Jer on Mon, 11/22/2010 - 6:02pm.
Anyone who follows the news is or should be well aware of Grandique's status as an illegal immigrant. To repeat that fact in evey article published about this defendant would be an act as gratuitous and superfluous--and inflammatory--as continually citing, for example, his religious affiliation or upbringing. The Washington Post noted Grandique's immigration status in delineating the cast of characters involved in the Levy case, but didn't re-emphasize it in every follow-up piece. That's responsible reporting.

Grandy is an illegal alien, not an immigrant and a MS13 gang memmber to boot. It is important to illustrate the idea, backed up by a study, that supporting the idea illegal aliens are ok and embracing them into the community raises crime. I say deport him to Cuba.

Yes Jer, it does not satisfy me because I believe it legitimizes the alien. Look at what has happened in the last couple of years and the words illegal are dropped. Its a sanitizing of terms like saying neutralize a person instead of murdering them. But I figured you might not object to sanitizing words.

I did in my post, I could care less who sanitizes it. If you will read my original post to you I objected to sanitizing the term period. I relied to you because you thought teh whole idea of saying he was illegal was in your words "To repeat that fact in evey article published about this defendant would be an act as gratuitous and superfluous--and inflammatory--as continually citing, for example, his religious affiliation or upbringing". Truthfully when you use words like these it reminds me of you being a LAWYER. Lawyerese bugs the crap out of me and reminds me of Obama in the worst way.

"Gratuitous", "superfluous", "inflammatory", and "affiliation" are legalese?...hardly more so than "sanitize" and "neutralize" and "legitimize" or "plethora" [which you have recently used]. The truth is, Dan, LAWYERS bug the crap out of you, a fact which you have made abundantly clear in dozens and dozens of insulting and abusive posts for years. We get it. Why don't you open a forum and pour out your infinite hatred for lawyers and the legal profession and then refer folks to it from time to time. I think it would simplify matters.

Illegal immigrant and illegal
Submitted by Ken Shepherd on Tue, 11/23/2010 - 12:57pm.
Illegal immigrant and illegal alien are relatively synonymous, however the illegal action taken is the act of immigrating in contravention of the law. Guandique illegally immigrated to the United States. He didn't immigrate via the proper legal method.
By contrast, saying he's an illegal alien would be to say that he's being an alien illegally, which makes little sense. There's no law against being a foreigner in the United States. There is a law against violating immigration laws to reside here without having secured the proper documentation to do so.
But for many years the term
Submitted by Dan The Man 2 on Tue, 11/23/2010 - 1:35pm.
But for many years the term illegal alien has been used, people understand what it means. As I see it its like the difference between saying gay and homosexual. There is a slow decline in meanings of words and some have stronger meanings than others. So using the word gay would mean a happy person and not a homosexual as the term now means in common usage?
More LIke Irresponsible Bias
Submitted by IrateNate on Mon, 11/22/2010 - 10:55pm.
Responsible reporting, Jer? I disagree, and believe the omission to be intentional. The goal of the liberal media being to obfuscate the difference between illegal and legal immigrants if the giant push towards amnesty is to ever reach fruition.
The public must be deceived into believing there are no dangerous criminals swarming across our southern border. Anyone who believes otherwise is just an extreme right-wing fanatic.
We must be made to understand that blanket amnesty is a good thing. We must believe that all immigrants only want a better life, and they only take the jobs Americans don't want - such as butchering our interns, for example.
Guandique was and is a citizen of El Salvador, period. It is irresponsible reporting to claim he was a "Salvadoran immigrant". He is either a legal immigrant or a criminal trespasser. There are no "gray areas" here, Jer.

When they start the piece off with "A jury has found Salvadoran immigrant Ingmar Guandique guilty..." It sounds like he was a legal immigrant. It would not have been hard for them to insert 1 more word into the opening sentence.
And what about those that don't follow the news? Or are just becoming interested now? Until today, I didn't know anything about this, I remember something from way back then, but this is the first I have seen since the original disapearance.

Investigators eventually focused on Guandique, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, and brought formal charges last year. Prosecutors acknowledged they had little direct evidence but said Levy's death fit a pattern of other crimes committed by Guandique in the park.
