Politico Glosses Over Murtha's Haditha Smear

File photo of the late Rep. Jack Murtha (D-Pa.)David Rogers glossed over the late Rep. Jack Murtha's (D-Pa.) Haditha Marines smear in an obituary published yesterday and updated this morning at Politico:

Rather than lie low, Murtha further made himself a target with public comments in the spring of 2006 pressuring the Marine command to investigate allegations of civilian casualties at Haditha, Iraq. This infuriated many Marines, and critics argued that the congressman had become more partisan himself out of loyalty to Pelosi.

But Murtha went beyond pressing for a formal military investigation, which is a legitimate call any congressman could and should make after an incident like Haditha. The former Marine practically declared the Marines at Haditha guilty by saying they have killed "in cold blood."

Yet Murtha's baseless smear is not substantiated by the facts. As the Washington Post noted yesterday in an update to its obituary on Murtha:

Eight Marines were originally charged with murder or failing to properly report or investigate the killings. Charges against six were dropped, and one was acquitted. A court martial for sole remaining defendant has not yet scheduled.

That man never apologized

That man never apologized for ruining the lives of a few good marines.  He put the lives of terrorists above ours.

We'll take his seat, too.

That is all I have to say.

I'm sure

that Teddy is holding the door open for Murtha.

You're right Spiff, he never did apologize, and he became the darling of Code Stink, er Pink and ANSWER and the rest.  If his family decides on a military funeral, I wonder if the Corps can find 6 willing Marines to serve as pall bearers?

He was just another corrupt

He was just another corrupt Dem.

Mr "I wont except bribes AT THIS TIME" Murtha.

He was a Ted Kennedy wannabe, minus the alcohol swilling and female degradation.

I don't know...

He looked like a hardcore boozer to me. Could be wrong - I don't know - but I wouldn't give him that pass so quickly.

Here is why you should literacy test voters:

Kennedy and Murtha.....

.....should also reserve seats for kerry and jane fonda.

She will be easy to recognize, riding around on a vc tank...

And kerry will be easy to spot as he goes around killing mortally wounded, pre-pubescent, unarmed vc crawling on the ground...

Remember in November...this year !

Six String...Couldn't have said it better...

Well put!...Right on target and very succinct.

"The problem is not that people are taxed too little...the problem is that government spends too much." ~President Ronald Reagan

As far as I have

As far as I have read Andrew Breithbart was the only article taht used the words "in cold blood."

Semper superne nitens

The AP also noted the "in

The AP also noted the "in cold blood" smear, but they didn't note the acquittal and case dismissals.

What goes around comes

What goes around comes around. May God judge him justly.

This was predictable

Murtha's "legacy" will strangely (to us on NB) be missing almost all mention of the Haditha fiasco and focus almost exclusively on his being the first Vietnam Vet elected to Congress.

May he rest in peace and be forgiven all of his sins by his creator.

Throw 'da bums out!!!

Before it's too late.

"May he rest in peace and be

"May he rest in peace and be forgiven all of his sins by his creator."

That's the only way any of us can stand before our Creator and survive the encounter.

Brit Hume

Brit Hume included it--I guess that would be the "balanced" thing again.

OK, the Guy is Dead

Obits normally try to say nice things about the deceased.  They aren't usually a platform to smack the dearly departed around.  Step back, take a deep breath, let them put old Jack in the ground.

Then elect a Republican to fill his seat.

Political obituaries

Political obituaries shouldn't overly dwell on the negative elements of a politician's career, I'd agree. But most of these obits have mentioned his penchant as a pork barrel spender and his involvement in Abscam, so there's little reason to gloss over Haditha when you're going to note those things.

Is the author of this

Is the author of this Politico story, David Rogers, the same leftist political activist by the name "David Rogers" who worked at that cesspool of militant leftist political advocacy, to wit: the Washington bureau of the Wall Street Journal?  Not surprisingly, Politico is finding a lot to like at the Washington bureau of the Wall Street Journal.  Militant feminist political activist Jeanne Cummings, who once worked in the Washington bureau of the Wall Street Journal, now writes at Politico as well.  What's next?  Will Politico hire Jill Abramson?  Jane Mayer?  Ron Suskind?  David Wessel?  Thomas Ricks?  Al Hunt?

Jack Murtha is

Jack Murtha is dead.    The leftist media will report only nice things to say about him, call him great, moan and groan that he is gone and make excuses for any bad moves he made during his career.

The media on the right will remind us about the Haditha mess and Murtha's comments about Marines killing in cold blood and other unforgivable things he did during his political career.   and then..........

After all is said and done and if there is any justice Murtha's congressional seat will go to a Republican.

The Marines were under PRAY

The Marines were under PRAY SHER, because of George Bush.

Dead Murtha was attacking our President using our Marines as his battering ram.  Unless you are that DEAD, DUMB and BLIND KID, you should be able to see what a pathetic piece of CRAP Murtha was.

not wanting to say anything bad about jack murtha ,

but he is the first marine that i ever heard cast a disparaging word about another marine or the corps.

Any good this man had done

Any good this man had done during his life was totally eclipsed by his outright thievery, slander, and the false witness he bore against his fellow Marines. He will not be missed by the majority of the country, and he left office in the best way possible for those that violate their oath of office and the trust of their constituents: feet first.
