WaPo Seeks to Put GOP Gov.-elect McDonnell 'In a Bind' Over Pat Robertson's Remarks

It failed to make his master's thesis at the university Pat Robertson founded a campaign killer, but the Washington Post is still intent on finding ways to damage governor-elect Bob McDonnell even before he takes office.

In a Metro-section front-pager today, Post staffer Rosalind Helderman insisted that some recent remarks by Robertson about the nature of Islam following the Fort Hood shooting have "put McDonnell in a bind" and are forcing the Republican governor-elect "to confront how he plans to handle his friendship with" the "long-time ally" and "highly controversial figure."

Just four paragraphs into her story, Helderman cast McDonnell as one who "tried during the race to convince Virginians that he was a social conservative who could speak more broadly to issues that cross party lines."

Of course, McDonnell did just that, winning the Virginia governor's race by an 18-point margin (59-41 over Democrat Creigh Deeds) in a race where the economy, taxes and transportation were the key issues, so it's specious for Helderman to paint the governor-elect as though he were someone of whom moderate voters were skeptical.

Helderman went on to quote "Virginia political analyst Robert D. Holsworth" as positing that "he will not be able to simply say 'no comment,' himself, forever," about Robertson's characterization of Islam as a "violent.... political system" that was "bent on the overthrow of the governments of the world and world domination."

Just as President Obama had to formally denounce Rev. Jeremiah Wright, "McDonnell will probably face continued questions about Robertson's stands through his four-year term," Helderman insisted, citing Holsworth.

Of course, for that analogy to hold true, President Obama would have to be persistently dogged by the media throughout his presidency every time Jeremiah Wright says something stupid, something which hasn't and won't likely happen, in large part because the media are not intent on damaging Obama in the way that the Post was and is with McDonnell.

What's more, Wright was Obama's long-time pastor. He married the Obamas baptized their children. McDonnell, a Roman Catholic, has received financial contributions from McDonnell and earned a law degree from his university, but has never been under the weekly spiritual authority of the Protestant evangelist. The relationships between Wright and Obama and Robertson and McDonnell are hardly analogous.

All the same, the paper that tried to make McDonnell's thesis his "macaca" moment seems now intent on morphing Robertson into McDonnell's Rev. Wright. It's abundantly clear the Post is not aiming to be a neutral observer and chronicler of McDonnell's tenure in the governor's mansion, but rather the weaver of a negative narrative.

NO "CRED"

After saying Hasan murdered those people in Ft Hood because he was "harassed", the WAPO has lost all credibility. How can you take anything they say seriousely when they make excuses for and protect muslim terrorists? When Pravda is more unbiased that WAPO, you know Wapo has deteriorated into a yellow, propaganda rag fit only to wrap decaying fish in.

The WaPo failed at

The WaPo failed at destroying McDonnell's election and campaign, so they are going to try to destroy his governorship. WaPo has already had their share of Macaca moments. Give it up and report the news.

So many lies Al Gore tells

So many lies Al Gore tells and no one ever seeks to put him in a bind. My guess is when the lamestream media final;ly loses their last subscriber it will all come to an end.

So how could the WaPo have missed Rev Wright? Anita Dunn? VAn Jones? Maybe that's the real problem here.

Yes, looking at all fifty

Yes, looking at all fifty seven muslim governments, they are the picture of non violent healthy democratic states. I wonder what Pat Robertson could be thinking of? And the people are too sophisticated to believe that Pat Robertson is the spiritual mentor of the Gov elect, as Rev Wright was (and still is) to Mr. Obama. Thus there is no need for the Gov elect to comment on anything Rev. Robertson has said or will say in the future.

However, the media's pass to Mr. Obama on Rev. Wright was and is indefensible.  The only reason they covered it at all was because a fellow democrap,Billary, was making the charge.

Why is it that every

Why is it that every Democrat's personal statements are his own, but a Republican is called on to answer for, or disavow, any comment made by any other Republican or conservative anywhere in the country?

When is John Kerry going to be called on to disavow the supposedly hateful and hurtful statements made by the Pope regarding abortion, stem cell research, and euthanasia?

Puzzled

Islam is what Rev. Robertson said it is. So what's the problem?

And you know what libs? Islam is against abortion. Still think you want to coddle them?

I have it!

Like gay marriage... Let us simply put the question to a vote!

"Is Islam a brutal, lying, murderous cult masquerading as a religion and therefore subject to censure, seizure and elimination with prejudice".

OR

"Is Islam the Religion of Peace, fuzzy bunnies, rainbow unicorn farts and joy for all mankind, and should we, the people of the Great State of _______ should submit instantly to Sharia Law?"

I'm betting I know Obowma will vote.

Unreasonanble standard

First of all, how many people who attend a college or university are close to the president of that institution?  And until Obama is held accountable for his ties to some very questionable characters, McDonnell cannot be held accountable for the opinions of Pat Robertson.

What Robertston Says....

.....sometimes gets him into trouble.  But this time, he is right on the money.   Many secular Muslims are like secular Jews - it's a heritage, not a religion.

Many Muslims do not know the entire contents of the Koran.  Many translations are available.  It also depends on which suras you read.  Some of the Meccan suras are not violent in nature. But you read the Medinan suras, and they are the ones that call out for the death of all infidels, speak of Jihad and vowing total allegiance to Allah only.

First of all, what did Pat Robertson say about Islam...

...that wasn't true?

From  Helderman's WaPo article:

Virginia Muslims are calling on McDonnell (R) to disavow comments made by the Virginia Beach religious broadcaster last week in response to the shootings at Fort Hood, Tex...

I have a better idea, why don't the practitioners of Islam in Virginia, and everywhere else in America, get their asses off the prayer rug and loudly disavow the actions of their so-called more "radical" members?

Perhaps their silence, and that of most "peaceful" Islamists in this country is because, deep down, they really don't have an issue with the barbaric atrocities that Hasan, and others, have done in the name of Islam.

After all, they are only doing what their "religion" has commanded them to do for 14 centuries, and that is to kill the infidel

I have about had it with these primitives, and am about ready to vote for anyone who promises to round them all up and return them whence they came.

Islamic jihad vs. U.S.---

Mr. Dave:

Now, now; talking common sense, making sense, and correctly pointing out a very good way to deal with Islam, and its' adherents, will get us nowhere with the current posprez, his shitforbrains administration, or, apparently, any of our most wonderful, intelligent, caring, asshat politicos, all of whom were thoughtfully voted into office by those of us who thought they might actually care for something other than themselves.
