Does he not understand that it's much more than a trial? Does he understand that it's detention as well? I mean, how could you NOT miss that part of it? Does he not know how jihadis think? I mean, if he wants NYT to get hit again, I think that's a bit cavalier of him, unless he wants to volunteer his house (oops, apartment) for the detention and the trial. I'd love to see reality smack him right across the jaw.

As one of the "wimps in the heartland" that Mitchell so derisively refers to in his tweet, I don't want terror trials to take place anywhere in the United States. Mitchell is right about one thing...I am afraid to have the terror trials here in this country...I don't want them to take place in my town, your town, or New York. And I don't for one minute believe that "New Yorkers are happy to host (the) trial of (the) 9/11 mastermind..." The detainees should remain at Gitmo, and that's where the trials should take place, carried out by the military. Holder's announcement today that the trials will take place in civilian Federal court in NYC is a travesty. The detainees are no doubt thrilled at the prospect of having a public, civilian platform to spew their Islamist propaganda, and the decision to hold these trials in civilian court is as wrong-headed as it gets.

The mastermind behind the heinous crimes at the end of the Clinton Presidency, including the masterful pardon of a fugitive who had not served a sentence, admitted error, nor asked forgiveness (though there was a lot of money passing hands), has now announced he will mastermind the imposition of justice on the killers in Gitmo. He did so well imposing such justice on Marc Rich! However, because the matter of the money may, could possibly, have influenced his decision in that case (and others), I for one will give Holder the benefit of the doubt and trust that for the next few years he will faithfully adhere to the rule of law and try his best to fry the bastards. Unless, of course, he pardons them, resigns and then gets a job with a Saudi law firm or the like. I mean, Holder proved in 2001 he was ethically challenged and its not like we have revolving doors around here, do we?

Yeah, I don't want former Gitmo detainees 100 miles from my house. However, it's not because I'm a wimp, but because the folks 1300 miles away are too squeamish and wimpy to make our prison system a form of justice and punishment. They want it to help rehabilitate people instead. What they end up with is a mealy-mouthed system that doesn't hold the real monsters of humanity in check, but teaches them how to pretend civility so they can get out and act like monsters again.

I also don't think these folks deserve the privilege of walking the earth in this nation of freedom. Those that died because of the guilty ones deserve justice as well.  If any of these detainees committed war crimes, they ought to be given their last opportunity to set their soul in order and then be hanged. They should not be given three square meals a day, books to read, medical treatment, and live out their sentence quietly. I'm not even confident these monsters will be given a life sentence when given a civilian trial. How's that for wimpy?

I've read a lot of posts by New York (or 'yawk', if you live there) residents who are decidedly NOT happy at the thought of terrorists being brought there.

Here we have yet another instance of a liberal elitist presuming to speak for an entire population.

They should send this dork to Iran or Afghanistan, drop him in the middle of an Al Queda camp and let him try to pull that trick with THEM.

Mitchell has proven he's out of touch with the Heartland.  I can't prove this, but I can't help but wonder what the average New Yorker thinks of all of this.  Seems to me that if Mitchell got outside of his MSM elitist circles, any sensible New Yorker wouldn't want to see these creeps in their backyard.  In fact, they may be wondering why these terrorists haven't been tried by a military tribunal and shot by now.

No, it is Obama, Holder, Pelosi, Reid and all the others in the "Hate America" crowd seeking to put on trial Bush, Cheney, Gonzalez, the CIA and the rest of our intelligence-gathering agencies, and our military. Not only will it hurt our efforts to combat religious fanatics in their self-proclaimed jihad against infidels, it will make the dedicated patriotic men and women who have been volunteering to protect this great country think twice, even three times about (re)joining. Why would they put themselves (and their families) on the line if they believe their government won't back them up?
