Taking to his Twitter account to take a swipe at flyover country, the New York-based editor of a print journalism trade publication all but stuck his tongue out at middle America while chanting "nya nya nya nya boo boo."
Tweeted Greg Mitchell of "Editor & Publisher" around 10:40 a.m. EST (h/t Dan Gainor):
New Yorkers happy to host trial of 9/11 mastermind: Unlike wimps in heartland who tremble at thought of any minor Gitmo-ite coming to town.
No doubt New Yorkers, who were profoundly effected by the terror attacks of 9/11, would be proud to see justice served by their own citizens serving on a jury, impartially weighing the overwhelming damning evidence and rendering a just verdict.
But that doesn't negate legitimate security concerns any local official would have about how holding a terrorist suspect in his jail would instantly make that facility a target of terrorists who may wish to attempt a jail break and/or terror attack. What's more, it's not a stretch to imagine the radicalizing impact on the inmate population that jihadist Muslims could have in proselytizing inmates who are in jail for lesser offenses.

The Pot
Fri, 11/13/2009 - 11:43 ET by iveseenitallHow does that saying go--"The Pot Calling..." These are the same ignorant rats who want to read 'em their "rights" on the battlefield. Listen to these "bold", "courageous" "liberals" on terrorism (or whatever they call it nowadays) at your own risk. Hypocrites all!

And the ACLU cheers
Fri, 11/13/2009 - 15:22 ET by ThisnThatRight. What happened the last time a big-time terrorist (that blind sheik or someone) stood trial in the U.S?
Correct --> 9/11.
What's happened since 9/11, when we took it to the terrorists on their own soil under President Bush?
Correct --> No terrorist attacks on U.S. soil.
What's happened since obama?
Correct --> Ft Hood attack, and now; domestic trials, which are being cheered by the ACLU.

Fri, 11/13/2009 - 11:49 ET by TenebrousDoes he not understand that it's much more than a trial? Does he understand that it's detention as well? I mean, how could you NOT miss that part of it? Does he not know how jihadis think? I mean, if he wants NYT to get hit again, I think that's a bit cavalier of him, unless he wants to volunteer his house (oops, apartment) for the detention and the trial. I'd love to see reality smack him right across the jaw.

Fri, 11/13/2009 - 11:59 ET by PrairieSkymean-spirited and nasty thing for an American to say about his fellow Americans...
As one of the "wimps in the heartland" that Mitchell so derisively refers to in his tweet, I don't want terror trials to take place anywhere in the United States. Mitchell is right about one thing...I am afraid to have the terror trials here in this country...I don't want them to take place in my town, your town, or New York. And I don't for one minute believe that "New Yorkers are happy to host (the) trial of (the) 9/11 mastermind..." The detainees should remain at Gitmo, and that's where the trials should take place, carried out by the military. Holder's announcement today that the trials will take place in civilian Federal court in NYC is a travesty. The detainees are no doubt thrilled at the prospect of having a public, civilian platform to spew their Islamist propaganda, and the decision to hold these trials in civilian court is as wrong-headed as it gets.

This is just bluster.
Fri, 11/13/2009 - 13:04 ET by mattmThis is just bluster. Don't fall for it. What the libs are trying to do is make this look like they're being tough on terrorists - when the opposite is actually true.
Giving this scum access to the U.S. justice system is a slap in the face to every American citizen, especially to those who have been directly victimized by the enemy. In fact, Eric Holder and his band of PC libtards are also the enemy, in my book. I say put them all together in a deep hole and let them rot.
mattm...Agreed...
Fri, 11/13/2009 - 13:17 ET by PrairieSkyYou could be right about this just being bluster...I'd rather that be the case than a deliberate attempt at slamming those of us "in the heartland"...Either way, Mitchell is a moron, IMHO, and if he isn't afraid of having the terror trials in the US, he's nuts.
As for Obama, Holder and Co., you're right on target. All of these delusional libnuts are locked into the pre-9/11 mindset which got us into this mess in the first place. The potential damage that these people can do in the next 3 years is frightening, and this is an example of it.

Holder's Decision
Fri, 11/13/2009 - 12:04 ET by jaywlThe mastermind behind the heinous crimes at the end of the Clinton Presidency, including the masterful pardon of a fugitive who had not served a sentence, admitted error, nor asked forgiveness (though there was a lot of money passing hands), has now announced he will mastermind the imposition of justice on the killers in Gitmo. He did so well imposing such justice on Marc Rich! However, because the matter of the money may, could possibly, have influenced his decision in that case (and others), I for one will give Holder the benefit of the doubt and trust that for the next few years he will faithfully adhere to the rule of law and try his best to fry the bastards. Unless, of course, he pardons them, resigns and then gets a job with a Saudi law firm or the like. I mean, Holder proved in 2001 he was ethically challenged and its not like we have revolving doors around here, do we?
I guess....
Fri, 11/13/2009 - 12:11 ET by jdripperThat is why the military enlistments come from the heartland and not NYC which ranks very low on the per capita list of people who volunteer to fight. If the country relied on the brave boys and girls of NYC to defend her then we would be speaking Arabic now.

Fri, 11/13/2009 - 12:42 ET by TailgunnerWhat are these morons thinking?
There are enough sleeper jihadists in NYC to set up a hostage situation at a bank, a mall, a church, synagogue or school, and demand KSM's release.
How many women or children is Greg Mitchell willing to see executed on camera before he 'wimps out'?
I'll say it again. If Obama brings these terrorists to US soil we will see jihadist kidnappings, bombings and shootings with the full intent of freeing them.
Another consideration is the safety of juries.
The names and addresses of jurors will be made available, legally or otherwise, and their friends and families will be targets for terrorism.
One juror's family is firebombed and you'll never get a terrorist conviction for the next ten years.
A civilian trial will give KSM and other detainees a worldwide forum to preach jihad, claim the most outrageous tortures, and call for the murders of more 'infidels'.
Add that to what Rush is now saying about the amount of sensitive information and interrogation techniques that will become public during civilian trials and one has to wonder if Obama's not actively sabotaging these trials and the war on terror.

Look up what happened at Beslan.
Fri, 11/13/2009 - 21:00 ET by TailgunnerBeslan, Russia was the site of one of the worst terrorist atrocities ever.
Chechen terrorists took 1,100 hostage inside a school. During the Russian rescue effort, Chechens murdered over 300 hostages, including nearly 200 children.
Witnesses report seeing fleeing schoolchildren being shot in the back by adherents of the 'religion of peace'.
And Obama wants to bring that to our schools, our churches and our shopping malls. In fact, as Hasan and the late Muhammad prove, it's already here.
If you bring terrorists here, you bring terrorism here.

As long as wimps are running things...
Fri, 11/13/2009 - 12:45 ET by zostayYeah, I don't want former Gitmo detainees 100 miles from my house. However, it's not because I'm a wimp, but because the folks 1300 miles away are too squeamish and wimpy to make our prison system a form of justice and punishment. They want it to help rehabilitate people instead. What they end up with is a mealy-mouthed system that doesn't hold the real monsters of humanity in check, but teaches them how to pretend civility so they can get out and act like monsters again.
I also don't think these folks deserve the privilege of walking the earth in this nation of freedom. Those that died because of the guilty ones deserve justice as well. If any of these detainees committed war crimes, they ought to be given their last opportunity to set their soul in order and then be hanged. They should not be given three square meals a day, books to read, medical treatment, and live out their sentence quietly. I'm not even confident these monsters will be given a life sentence when given a civilian trial. How's that for wimpy?

Terrorsit in Git-mo
Fri, 11/13/2009 - 14:40 ET by Dave in SeattleCall me cynical but I can't help but think Obama knows good and well that putting Islamic terrorists in the general population of our prisons will result in the propagation of terrorism.
What better way to graft the root of that problem onto the tree that is our crop of criminals. Home grown terroism - turning our prisions in to hot houses in order to acclerate the number of Alah's volunteers. Just what we don't need, but someone does.
Nothing gives purpose and unrelenting motive to violence prone individuals like having a belief system that tells you God approves of your blood lust and encouages you in that effort.
Think this isn't serious? Better think again - we are going to plant a problem and in time we will reap a calamity if not an epidemic we can not surive.
There is nothing wrong with Git-mo and no reason to move the enemie combatants to the mainland.
After watching and listening to this president he appears to be something other than a patriot, a citizen or an individual who embraces the values and traditions of our nation. He is starting to appear to be our worse fears realized - our enemy with the power of the presidency in his hand.
Obama uses the lie and Americans are going to die.

Fri, 11/13/2009 - 15:31 ET by Kekela WardI'm not sure that even this administration could be so idiotic (not sure, but wouldn't be surprised) to put these terrorists in general population.
Say what you will about criminals, but some are very patriotic, and I'm sure there are some who lost friends and family in the attacks...if given the chance, some may attempt to save the country alot of time and money by dealing with the problem themselves (with a little assistance from some easily distracted correction officers).

Nothing About Justice For KSM
Sat, 11/14/2009 - 10:49 ET by Wildcatter1980No, it is Obama, Holder, Pelosi, Reid and all the others in the "Hate America" crowd seeking to put on trial Bush, Cheney, Gonzalez, the CIA and the rest of our intelligence-gathering agencies, and our military. Not only will it hurt our efforts to combat religious fanatics in their self-proclaimed jihad against infidels, it will make the dedicated patriotic men and women who have been volunteering to protect this great country think twice, even three times about (re)joining. Why would they put themselves (and their families) on the line if they believe their government won't back them up?
