For all the bluster from the Left during the Bush administration about the doctrine of preemptive warfare, it seems at least one journalist favors the doctrine adapted for use within the U.S. justice system to prevent lone-wolf terroristic violence.
U.S. News & World Report contributor and PBS "To the Contrary" host Bonnie Erbe on June 11 sounded a decidedly authoritarian note in a Thomas Jefferson Street blog post in which she called for "rounding up" hatemongers like James von Brunn or Scott Roeder before they turn violent.
Oddly enough, Erbe -- who has always favored Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama -- seems to suggest that the president's former pastor might be such a killer-in-waiting:
Now we have this quote from the so-called Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who used to be President Obama's pastor. Hate comes from among all peoples and all religions. He said this about his lack of communication with Barack Obama since he's been elected president, according to the AP:
"Them Jews ain't going to let him talk to me. I told my baby daughter that he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office," Wright told the Daily Press of Newport News following a Tuesday night sermon at the 95th annual Hampton University Ministers' Conference.
It's not enough to prosecute these murders as murders. They are hate-motivated crimes and each of these men had been under some sort of police surveillance prior to their actions. Isn't it time we started rounding up promoters of hate before they kill?

Erbe might as well have indicted herself as she is a purveyor of hate. In fact hate speech largely depends on which side of the fence you are on. Speech in itself is not violent only when you act upon it, but we have to be careful when we play thought/action police.
Such laws in the wrong hands would mean disaster. We need only look to Canada or Europe or even the middle east where speech will get u in trouble. Dissent will get you into trouble. We cannot outlaw or prosecute speech where it does not harm others.

Letting them run in the background is much more dangerous to the public safety.
I didn't think Tiller was a good guy, but it's too late now to change his mind. Unlike Pvt. Long, Tiller at least was aware that some people would harm him, given the chance. Tiller might have avoided his death through vigilance. Long was probably never told to be careful at a recruiting office.
The media have a responsibility to inform us without drama of the threats we face. I'm not ready for Ms. Erbe to select individuals for round-up. If it comes to that, however, I'm nominating myself for the postion of Supreme Chairman of the Selection Committee. If you will second my self-nomination, I promise that you be spared.
Bonnie Erbe is scary even when she pretends to be even-handed.
