You know the saying, "When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging"? It seems liberal journalist Bonnie Erbe either never heard it, or just doesn't care.
Yesterday I noted how the PBS "To the Contrary" host denounced Playboy writer Guy Cimbalo's list of 10 conservative women he's like to "hate-f***," only to hint that she thought syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin deserved to be degraded by the nudie mag writer.
Today, the U.S. News & World Report contributing editor took to her Thomas Jefferson Street blog to take on conservative blogger Gateway Pundit for supposedly distorting her argument. You see, Erbe insists, she never said she thinks Malkin would have it coming to be raped, only that she has it coming to be viciously and obscenely degraded by some loser writing for a softcore porn mag:
Story Continues Below Ad ↓The headline at this blogpost says I backed the "hate rape" of a female right-wing extremist columnist. I backed no such thing. I don't support and never would the "hate rape" or the "rape" of any woman or any person for that matter.
What I did say, and what is quoted on that page, is as follows:
I also want to note that at least one woman on the list is so venom-spewing, she unfortunately invites venom to be shot back at her: Michelle Malkin. Her posts and her "routine" are so venomous and predictable, in fact, I stopped paying attention to her years ago.
Does that need any more explanation than a plain reading of the language offers? I said she invites "venom" to be shot back at her. Rape and venom, last time I checked, were two different things. Whoever wrongfully, purposely distorted my words should run a retraction.
Our good friend the Weekly Standard's Mary Katharine Ham -- also a target of Cimbalo's sexual fantasies -- tweeted her helpful translation of Erbe's argument:
Feminist FAIL by Erbe: http://bit.ly/nM3m2 "I only condone publication of rape fantasies of some cons. women, not actual rape." Sheesh!

June 4, 2009 - 16:54 ET by Jnoblejudging from that picture, Erbe doesn't look at all like an uppity snide nasty hag who would insinuate something like that. Was she on her way to the country club in 'Caddyshack' when that was taken?

June 4, 2009 - 17:02 ET by mostlymoderateI wonder if this old barnacle would say that an abortion doctor that was killing babies beyond the third-term was just begging for a killing? Afterall, to say or insinuate that Malkin is asking for a raping is the same logic.
Wow, just read the comments on her blog
June 4, 2009 - 17:47 ET by WhoIsJohnGaltIt's obvious that even those on her side of the aisle can't defend her or even stomach her "clarification". I'd love to be a fly on the wall as she reads the hundreds of comments trashing her. Not that she would get any of them...she'd assume that they're all right-wingers trying to create a firestorm where none existed.

When I see a lefty apply the expression "spew venom" I usually can't even find a use of a vulgar word much less venom whatever that means.
I insist her calling for sexual assualt on a female is spewing venom.

Erbe's analysis (much more offensive and predictable than anything from Malkin) is just like any prejudiced discussion - her thoughts are already in the bag before she starts to speak.

Erbe is correct. A close
June 4, 2009 - 21:18 ET by snaggletoothieErbe is correct. A close and exact reading of her words shows that she did not call for the rape of MM. But that leaves unanswered the question of how she got to be sick and hateful enough to give rhetorical cover to the slimeball at Playboy.

June 4, 2009 - 21:23 ET by CobraMan"I only condone publication of rape fantasies of some cons. women, not actual rape. Sheesh! "
You mean like how the Turner Diaries is just a fantasy about blowing up government buildings and was not an incitement for Timothy McVeigh to blow up the Murrah Federal Building? I wonder if the rest of the liberals, like Bonnie Erbe, believes that the Turner Diaries is just fantasy and really has nothing to do with Right Wing Extremism?
Somehow, I don't think the liberals are that willing to make the comparison and forgive or dismiss the writer of the Turner Diaries quite so easily, do you?

I guess that makes Leonardo diCaprio a mass murderer.

Did he write them?
June 4, 2009 - 21:33 ET by CobraManDid diCaprio actually write that story? No? So what's your point?
I think you missed my point. The liberals love to use the Turner Diaries as "proof" of the dangers of right-wing extremism. (That story encouraged the tragedy, you know) Yet , when a liberal writes something just as, if not more, disturbing, it's just "fantasy" and should be allowed, and even encouraged!

→ A follow-up
June 4, 2009 - 21:39 ET by Cool ArrowThe movie "Basketball Diaries" contains a scene in which diCaprio, wearing a long black duster, mows down his classmates in slo-mo.
My intent was that since Leonardo diCaprio was involved in a film that inspired Klebold and Harris at Columbine, it's as damning as anything O'Reilly said.
Do I really think diCaprio is culpable? No.

June 5, 2009 - 09:23 ET by NorthCoasterWhy in heavens name would any person recommend the abuse of another? Even the inclusion on such a list suggests that she recommends the abuse of Michelle. Many on the Left are constantly arguing for the abuse or destruction of anyone not agreeing with their position and giving a pass to anyone on their side who would cause such abuse to occur. Color me, not surprized again.
