Playing off Keith Olbermann's "Worst Person in the World" shtick, some clever fellow started a petition recently at WorstBailoutIntheWorld.com calling on the "Countdown" host to return his recent pay raise to "Turbo Tax" Tim Geithner's Treasury Department. (h/t NewsBusters contributor Amy Menefee; see related story here)
The petition's full wording:
Dear Mr. Olbermann,
While General Electric, the parent-company of your MSNBC network, was negotiating a $126 billion taxpayer-funded bailout, you signed a new contract raising your salary from $4 million to $7.5 million annually. You have used your show as a platform to call for the resignation of corporate executives accepting excessive bonuses on the backs of taxpayers who are picking up the tab for these atrocious bailouts, yet you yourself have no problem engaging in the same “class economic rape” that you accuse them of.
Please heed your own advice and stop accepting taxpayer money to subsidize your nightly diatribes. Resign or return the balance of your excessive raise to the U.S. Treasury.

It's also another non-sequitur. The profitability of his show does not affect that he is being paid out of a pool including government money.
"3. He's not a CEO" This is yet another non-sequitur. See the explanation for 1, replacing "industry" with "job".
The only real argument you could make would be that there is a difference between a bonus and a salary increase. Unfortunately, I'm here to tear that down before you can even make it. To wit, the former was a set amount agreed upon before the bailouts and explicitly protected by said bailouts, while the latter is a change in pay after receipt of government funds. I don't know about you, but the latter sounds like the greater infraction to me.

Matthews went on to say to Olbermann: "I see you in every passing face."
Olbermann replied: "If love were a movie, you'd be a box office hit!"
Matthews responded: "Love is never having to say you are sorry."
Olbermann not to be outdone responded: Love at first sight is easy to understand; it's when two people have been looking at each other for a lifetime that it becomes a miracle.
Matthews replied: "It's a rainy day when you're not around."

Yes, less than 1 percent of Americans watch Olbermann.
Maybe we aren't quite as bad off as we think. It's the declines that are informative.
