Sticking up against those ol' playground bullies on the Right, CBS's Katie Couric tells conservatives in a recent blog post to " give the new kids on the block" in the Obama administration "a chance to get their learner's permits first."
Not exactly the wisest choice of words from an Obama-friendly journalist, particularly when a heavy drumbeat of criticism against him in the presidential campaign was that it unwise to trust the presidency to a man who would need "on-the-job training."
From her April 9 Couric & Co. post at CBSNews.com (emphasis mine):
Did former Vice President Dick Cheney cross the line when he said the Obama administration has made America less safe in the brief time they've been in office?
[...]
Politics is a rough and tumble sport. After all, then Senator Joe Biden called Mr. Cheney the worst vice president in history when he was out on the campaign trail.
These barbs sound more like the rhetoric of radio talk show hosts than elder statesman.
We should never shy away from insightful criticism. And in the white hot spotlight of the presidency a fair amount of back seat driving simply comes with the territory.
But it's fair to give the new kids on the block a chance to get their learner's permits first.
That's a page from my notebook.
Something tells me that properly handling rogue states like Iran and North Korea are weightier matters than mastering parallel parking and remembering to use the turn signal.
But that's just a page from my notebook.

April 13, 2009 - 15:34 ET by east tennessee johnWell, when you elect a dedicated, disciplined Marxist POTUS who had no experience whatsoever in operating anything other than Ayers' Annenberg Challenge in Chicago, which accomplished nothing in terms of educational benefit, what do you expect? By the way, where in the Constitution, does it give any politician, Republican,Democrat or Marxist the authority and power to dilute OUR soverignity in any way shape or form? Aren't they supposed to defend the Constitution of the United States? What right do they have to subordinate it to anything?

Corruption
April 13, 2009 - 12:53 ET by KC MulvilleThis just shows that Couric knew Obama had no experience when he was campaigning for the job. But, in her zeal to get him elected, she decided to wait until after the election to mention it.
That's what corruption is. It's when you know something but refuse to acknowledge it, because it interferes with your ulterior purpose. We call it corruption when a cop looks the other way while his partner plants evidence. Here, Couric looked the other way (or participated) in the media's party line that all Obama had to do to deserve election was to "look presidential." Remember that nonsense from the campaign? The media convinced voters that so long as Obama looked calm, he deserved to be president. And they actively dismissed the value of experience. If the cop was corrupt when he looked the other way, why is Couric any different? She wallowed in media corruption.

April 13, 2009 - 13:01 ET by SeashellFreudian slip is right. I am sure that Katie regrets this choice of words, but it only proves that these left-wing MSMers know the truth. Even Hillary tried to warn America about the perilous choice of Obama in these times.
The fact that Couric admits that we should allow Obama time to get "his learner's permit" at such a time in our history is an incredible statement.

April 13, 2009 - 13:23 ET by hobodreamerI suppose when you talk to the public you have to chose your words carefully, but sometimes I think we have gotten to the point where we are over sensitive of what get's said, we spend more time picking at words used and less at the meaning of the statement. I picture these days people like Al Sharpton who read the news and watch the news broadcasts looking for words or lines that are or could be conscrewed as racial. I just tire of this tactic.

This is a glimpse into what she thinks of him and knew he had no experience and knows he has none. It is no tactic when the evidence shows the truth to the words one says. The evidence is Obama did not have the experience for teh job. All rteh evidence such as the budget ignoring past experience with declining economies, the problems with picking staff 3 months into his Presidency.
He is only experienced in voting present. Of course I suspect you dont see the truth.

Oversensitivty
April 13, 2009 - 15:31 ET by KC MulvilleIn most circumstances, I'd agree with you, hobodreamer. But the media's promotion of Obama made a big difference in a presidential election, and as we've seen, a president can do a lot of damage to the American treasury and way of life. A presidential election is no small matter, and no one doubts that the media's adoring support of Obama, with little or no criticism from the mainstream media, went a long way in getting him elected.
That's why this "Freudian slip" is just the entrance to that story. What really matters is the journalistic corruption that the entrance reveals.

April 13, 2009 - 17:42 ET by Georgia GirlAnd, of course, as a "professional" who is supposed to be unbiased in coverage, Katie would never pick apart or use the words of conservatives to twist a "gotcha!" moment to advance her own politics, right?
I believe the reason there is more picking at the words from the right side these days is because people have had it with the media's ridiculous propoganda for Obama and the hatchet job they did (and continue to do) on Bush. In the name of justice, people will instinctively demand a balance. Sometimes people need to be called out on their lack of fairness -- and there are a number of ways that others will do that.

April 13, 2009 - 13:31 ET by Gary HallKatie - Both Obama & Michelle tried to warn us.. and you.. that the soon to be "boy president" was not yet ready to run, nor qualified to run; that he needed to earn his learner's permit, if you will, before you folks drafted him and pushed him into the office of the most powerful person in the world.
Let's let Obama and Michelle explain it to Katie - in their own words:

Well it's not exactly news
April 13, 2009 - 13:38 ET by 10ksnookerThat the Obama administration is a little naive on most things. I mean afterall, their dear leader is about as inexperienced and naive as there ever was.
C'mon, Couric . . .
April 13, 2009 - 14:49 ET by Galvanic. . . Obama certainly has no experience, but the MSM assured us experience wouldn't be a problem.
Moreover, Obama surrounded himself with Clintonistas, who are either holding office, or are part of his innner circle. Eric Holder and Robert Gates have plenty experience in their respective depatrments. Geithner is new to Treasury but not cold coming from the New York Federal Reserve, and is backed up by former Treasury Secretaries Summers and Rubin. Hillary Clinton is new, but she has a platoon of diplomats doing the heavy lifting -- folks like Holbrooke, Ross, and Mitchell.
Who needs a learner's permit?

There's more, but these ought to keep him occupied.
But even before all this, perhaps he'd better get to the point where he can take off the trainer wheels from his bicycle--or graduate to the bike with such wheels from the tricycle which he he appears to only be qualified to drive.
