Liberal blogger Steve Gilliard passed away in 2007, but his most infamous contribution to the blogosphere lives on as leftist bloggers continue to lodge racists attacks at Michael Steele, the first African-American chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Gilliard's 2005 photoshop depicting then-Lt. Gov. Steele as a minstrel was re-syndicated by the leftist blog perceptionmanagers.org on January 31 (see screencap taken Feb. 10 at right).
The text of the blog post reads:
Apparently the Black community in Maryland (and the rest of Black America) doesn't like Michael "Oreo's fell like Locusts" Steele very much.
So the RNC would prefer to be known as the party of "Uncle Tom" instead of the Party of Racists. Way to broaden the base guys! Good luck with that in 2012.
Under criticism for his depiction of Steele, Gilliard himself removed the offending photoshop from his October 26, 2005 blog post, replacing it with an unoffensive photoshop featuring an unaltered photo of Steele and U.S. currency. The offensive caption -- I's Simple Sambo and I's running for the Big House -- remains.
To be fair, the Blogger.com-templated Perception Managers site seems to be a very low-trafficked one -- judging by the spate of recent blog posts with zero comments -- and I'm certain most liberal bloggers would castigate the blog for its racist depiction and description of Mr. Steele particularly and black Republicans generally.
That being said, it's racist rhetoric of this nature is worthy of notice and repudiation from liberal and conservative bloggers alike.

Not being of the black
February 10, 2009 - 11:12 ET by HelenSNot being of the black persuasion, I have no idea how their possibly complicated culture or society works but it seems confining and atrophying (is that even a word?) to define each person of that group within a tiny and confining definition so that any deviation therefrom proves betrayal or racism.
Are we to understand from this, then, that blacks cannot have their own brains/ideas/positions? That to act as and think as an individual is a betrayal of the race?
I find that very hard to believe and yet the raucous chorus keeps up that very chant.
Or maybe it is the white liberal bloc who is uncomfortable with them forgetting their place?
Either way, it is shameful that because of one's appearance, they are expected to act or think a certain way. Has the technology of science really advanced to such a state that we actually have an entire ethnic group of pre-programmed robots? (In the lib's minds, at least).

When I see things like that I am gobsmacked that any black person would even contemplate being a liberal. When Obama became the first black president it was cause for celebration. But when Steel becomes the first black chair for the RNC it's cause for ridicule and racial ephitets? And to think, I'm considered a sellout/Aunt Jemimah because I see through the rhetoric of the liberals and find the blatant racism they're not really trying hard to hide.

The Uncle Tom, or African American who is too eager to please white people (in the character of Uncle Tom). Stowe intended Tom to be a "noble hero." The stereotype of him as a "subservient fool who bows down to the white man" evidently resulted from staged "Tom Shows," over which Stowe had no control.
Makes you wonder how many liberals actually read the book instead of falling for the stereotype perpetuated by the early Tom Shows, eh?

Uncle Sam's Plantation
By Star Parker
America has two economic systems: capitalism for the rich, and
socialism for the poor. This double–minded approach seems to keep the
poor enslaved to poverty while the rich get richer. Let’s face it,
despite its $400 billion price tag, welfare isn’t working.
The solution, asserts Star Parker, president and founder of the
Coalition on Urban Renewal & Education (CURE),is a faith-based, not
state-sponsored, plan. In "Uncle Sam’s Plantation," she offers five
simple yet profound steps that will allow the nation’s poor to go from
entitlement and slavery to empowerment and freedom.
Parker shares her own amazing journey up from the lower rungs
of the economic system and addresses the importance of extending the
free market system to this neglected group of people. Emphasizing
personal initiative, faith, and responsibility, she walks readers
toward releasing the hold poverty has over their lives.

Because if lefties allow themselves to actually consider intellect, issues, and achievement, they have to admit how inferior they are on every count. Can't have that, so out come the Oreo "jokes". I don't know why I am always surprised when the left sinks to racial politics. To listen to them, the only "real" black person is a Democrat--any black person who chooses to be a Republican is de facto a 'sell out' and an 'uncle Tom.'
No wonder that, in middle and high schools across this land, and very strongly here in California, young African-American students--especially young men--are given the message that success = NOT being good in school.
I have watched black students in my district who were in honors classes up 'til 8th grade, suddenly turning away from education as their peers begin to name call--branding them as "oreos" and "uncle tom's" and more. If a young black man in an urban public high school in Los Angeles is an honor student, he will be verbally tortured by his peers in the same racial group. If he has friends that cross racial lines, he will be verbally tortured--or worse.
If he excels at sports, he might get a pass, but likely not, unless he excels at sports and NOT in school. If he is a hip hop/rap musician, fathers children out of wedlock, joins a gang, etc, then he's deemed an "authentic" black man--what kind of weird double speak is this?
Well, now I understand--because those who demonize Michael Steele for participating in a party outside the self-created stereotype of what is embraced by the majority of African Americans (Dems) are no different from the high school bullies who go after African American students who do not follow the self-created stereotypes and choose to be successful students.

Sure , most of our religion has been watered down past the point that an Apostle would find RECOGNIZABLE, but liberals don't know that. You still in some small, undefined way, represent a bump in the road to their slide towards Sodom. The thing, the demonic spirit that animates them and co-ordinates their efforts with godless liberals around the globe, resents it. That is why they hate you. The fact that one calls themselves a "Christian", represents WAR to them because ultimately that is who they war against, "Christ". That is why they only champion "christians" who DON'T REALLY MEAN IT. Sort of like why they like McCain, he's not REALLY a Republican! Bill Clinton carries the bible, NO PROBLEMA, George Bush, certainly no bible scholar, MENTIONS Jesus, and the SKY IS FALLING. Why? Steele using bussed campaign workers from Philly.
February 10, 2009 - 16:31 ET by OddJobFor some background...
The Capital Times of Madison, WI reported:
When Michael Steele ran for Maryland’s open
U.S. Senate in 2006, his backers hired 300 mostly poor
African-Americans from Philadelphia — most if not all of them
unemployed, many of them homeless — fed them doughnuts and then packed
the crew onto Trailways buses for an Election Day trip that would make
a bit of political history.
The buses, which were draped in banners for Steele and Maryland
Gov. Robert Ehrlich, headed across the state line into Maryland, where
the day laborers were dispatched to predominantly African-American
neighborhoods of the city of Baltimore and populous Prince George’s
County.
They spent Election Day handing out glossy fliers headlined
“Democratic Sample Ballot” or “Official Voter Guide.” The fliers
employed the phrase “Ehrlich-Steele Democrats.” And they featured
images of prominent African-Americans, such as former Democratic
congressman and NAACP leader Kweisi Mfume, above the words: “These are
our choices.”
The implication that Mfume and other popular Democrats in the state were backing Steele and Ehrlich was hard to miss.
But Mfume wasn’t backing the “Ehrlich-Steele Democrats” ticket.
Steele and Ehrlich weren’t running as Democrats.
Both men were Republicans. And, despite what the group
Progressive Maryland described as a campaign of “Lies, Dirty Tricks,
and Fraudulent Fliers Designed to Deceive African-American Voters,”
they both lost.
Now, however, one of them, Steele, is the new chairman of the Republican National Committee.
The former lieutenant governor of Maryland, who has long been a
favorite Republican commentator on Fox News and other conservative
programs, won the backing of committee members who gathered in
Washington Friday after promising to renew the sagging Grand Old Party.
Steele, an arguably able political player who has for many years
been one of the GOP’s highest-profile African-American leaders, pitched
himself for the chairmanship by suggesting that he could put a positive
face on a party that has seemed in recent years to be more interested
in circling the conservative wagons than in attracting new voters.
Steele promises to engage in “outreach.”
But what will the outreach look like?
What sort of politics will Steele practice as RNC chair?
If past is prologue, this 2006 article from the Washington Post may prove instructive.
As Post writers Matthew Mosk and Avis Thomas-Lester noted:
“Republican leaders have defended the Election Day episode as an
accepted element of bare-knuckle politics. But for many voters, it
shattered in one day the nice-guy images Ehrlich and Steele had
cultivated for years.”
Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley was blunter: “I think it’s pretty
low that Ehrlich and Steele would print up a fake ballot and bus in
unemployed people and exploit them. It doesn’t get much lower than
that.”
Yeah, he's a peach!
Instead of a job, Steele gave them some work for a day.
Please do not get rid of Steele, he's a wonderful representation of the GOP.
