Pssst. Eight hundred rooms in Washington, D.C. proper and a total of 15,000 rooms "in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and the District" remain unbooked for the Obama apotheosis inaugural. Pass it on.
"Actually, Hotel Space Remains Available," the Washington Post's Paul Schwartzman quietly reported on page B2 of the January 15 edition's "Inauguration Watch." Staffer Paul Schwartzman cited Washington's "official tourism office, Destination DC" as the source of the stat.
Last Friday, I noted how the Post reported that "Inaugural Renters [Are] Begging For Takers." That 29-paragraph story was given the front page treatment on the paper's January 9 Metro section:
Across the Washington region, homeowners' dreams of a quick and easy payday are evaporating as the days tick down to President-elect Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony Jan. 20: The inaugural housing market has gone bust in record time.

Quite frankly, no one likes going to these inaugurations because it's always so freaking cold or wet and the parties are too crowded, with bad food and watered-down drinks. After an expensive flight and hotel room, it's just not worth it.

January 15, 2009 - 14:30 ET by dvdaughtryI just found that my employer (which I will not name, but it's Danish and uses massive ships to move cargo) will have screens in most US offices screens showing the inauguraion coverage from 11pm-2pm.
I asked if they provided this service for Bush, and the local (and vocal) conversative lady thinks they did.

2009 Presidential Inauguration: On Tuesday, January 20, 2009 the 56th presidential inauguration ceremony for President-elect Barack Obama will take place. This inauguration marks a significant moment in our nation’s history as the 44th president of the United States commences his term in office. I understand that many of you wish to experience this occasion via live coverage on television. The formal inauguration begins shortly after 11:30 a.m. Central Standard Time. The inauguration will be broadcast in the City Hall lobby with as much seating as possible. You are welcome to take a moment and watch the presidential inauguration as your schedule and job commitments permit. Even with the significance of this event, it is important for us to keep in mind the job responsibilities we have to our residents and corporate citizens. I have requested that department directors provide additional viewing areas at work sites around the city as feasible. Employees wishing to take time off may do so if vacation leave is available, the work schedule permits his/her absence, and they have received their supervisor’s approval.

January 15, 2009 - 15:56 ET by HelenSAll I know is that Blockbuster is going to be my very best friend next Tuesday. And maybe Monday and Wednesday (have to cover the nauseating pre-Coronation tripe and the post Adulation hyperventilating) I'll be renting as many movies as I can lug out of there so that I won't need to watch a second of the excrement that is bound to ooze out of every nook and cranny of the TV.
Did I mention I live in Fairfax, VA - less than 20 miles from all this Obamanation? Yeah. And it's been in the news even before now.
"Ooh look! Obama just arrived in town to stay in a hotel! OOOH look, he walked down the steps all by himself! And wait, is that... Yes, he's tying his own shoe laces! Oh my goodness, people! I do believe this is a close up of one of his used kleenex left behind on Airforce 3 1/2 - Office of the President Elect Who Can't Get Enough Camera Time! These are truely historic times. Wait! Aaaaahhh!!!! There are his two darling little girls ..."
And my humble apologies, people. I can't even keep up the mockery without having to go puke. And this was all a month ago. I don't dare even turn on the news now for the sake of all the nauseating saturation and gushing.

Millions for the Inaugural
January 15, 2009 - 16:24 ET by NorthCoasterI hope that this is just a sign of the overblown rhetoric from this election cycle. Wouldn't it be interesting to see thousands of unfilled viewing stands? How do you then explain that sight away? You can't fake it with tight shots with a camera like when a handful of protesters are presented as hundreds or thousands.
What's the truth here??
January 15, 2009 - 17:16 ET by PrairieSkyFor almost two months now, all we have heard is how many people are going to be flocking into the D.C. area for "The One's" inauguration/coronation, and how hard it is to find a place to stay. First the estimate was 4 million people...now it's down to maybe 2 million. When it was 4 million, all we heard was "where are they all going to stay???" There were stories of people having to stay as far away as West Virginia.
It seems that the media, again and as usual, has done it's typical job of completely overblowing the hype about their 'annointed one.' The non-stop, unending, relentless Obama fawning by the MSM is becoming nauseatingly ludicrous. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if NBC has one of it's anchors (Olbertwit or Chrissy), riding in a vehicle directly in front of the Obama's during the inaugural procession, throwing roses the whole way.

Democrats bi-modal
January 15, 2009 - 18:13 ET by dasherThere are two types of Democrats. The very rich which includes the Hollywood type who are misguided and theWall Street rich type who use the party for there own betterment. The other group the larger group are the poor, who suck of the teat of the government. Therefore there a plenty of hotel rooms available because the very rich have their hotel rooms, but the masses expected there can't afford a hotel, and will just be camping on the Capitol grounds. It will not be pretty.
