The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, which first rolled off the presses during the Lincoln administration, is up for sale.
Personally, I think a better investment is letting out a D.C. apartment for the inauguration:
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, which first rolled off the presses in 1863 and has been the state's longest-publishing newspaper, is up for sale.
The newspaper's staff was called into a closed meeting today by Publisher Roger Oglesby. Present at the meeting was Hearst Newspaper President Steve Swartz, who told the newsroom that Hearst Corp. is starting a 60-day process to find a buyer.
If a buyer is not found, Swartz said, possible options include creating an all-digital operation with a greatly reduced staff, or closing its operations entirely.
In no case will Hearst continue to publish the P-I in printed form, Swartz said.
Considering how green Seattle is, would it be such a loss to have one less tree-killing enterprise around?

January 9, 2009 - 18:32 ET by Cool ArrowIt suddenly occurred to me, if conservatives really demanded the publication of conservative news, we'd have it.

Conservatives should buy them up
January 9, 2009 - 19:08 ET by SmorgasbordI have a great thought!!! The wealthy conservatives should pool their resources and buy some of the failing media. This would be a great way to get the conservative agenda spread. The newspapers, radio, and TV stations could be bought at a very low price. The newspapers might be declining anyway, so maybe just the TV and radio industry would be the way to go.
This way the conservatives could tell BOTH SIDES OF A STORY. If there were a news media that gave THE WHOLE STORY, I am guessing people would go back to them. I don't watch the news or read newspapers because of the bias. If you agree with this idea, please pass it along to others.
Great Idea
January 10, 2009 - 09:41 ET by NorthCoasterThe prices for the failing media should allow an investment to be made near the low cost point. What a great deal in the long run.
The best part will be to begin to get a balanced set of real news stories. I'd start buying my local paper again if that were to happen. As it is now the only papers worht getting are the ones with the big packets of ad inserts.

This is a demonstration of the crap that the P-I is putting out.
Looking over today's opinion section of their paper, they have exactly one conservative, George Will, writing an article. The dozen or so other journalists are clearly liberal.
Good riddance . . .
