"World rallies around Palestinians amid Gaza offensive," the December 29 CNN.com headline screams.

But the story in question focuses on a few thousands protesting in a handful of countries with no consideration of who is behind organizing the protests and what their political agenda exactly is.

Consider, for example, that International A.N.S.W.E.R. (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) promises to remain a major organizer of pro-Hamas demonstrations, in the United States. ANSWER was formed just three days after the September 11 attacks to rally opposition to a retributive war against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Here's ANSWER's call for a "National Day of Action" to "Stop the Massacre of Palestinians." Take note of the listing of ally organizations for the protest (emphases mine):

The ANSWER Coalition, Muslim American Society Freedom, Free Palestine Alliance, National Council of Arab Americans, and Al-Awda, International Palestine Right to Return Coalition are calling for Tuesday, December 30 to be a National Day of Action to show solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza and to demand an immediate end to the murderous attacks carried out by the Israeli military against the people of Gaza.

In Washington, D.C., there will be a demonstration at the State Department at 4:30 pm. Demonstrations will also be held in cities around the country. Concur-

All civilized societies segment their military powers from the civilian zones. Hamas, being a terrorist based organization does not, rather like Hezbollah it places all of its weaponry directly on top of its civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip so that ANY reaction by Isreal has the intended effect of showing civilian casualties.

Palestine is a “stone age” area locked under Israel’s control. Israel controls the borders, who and what goes in and who and what goes out. Israel receives 6.5 million US dollars a DAY to keep that control. They have not let aid, food or basic medical supplies into the Gaza Strip. To date Palestine has lost 1,000 children to Israel’s bombs. Israel has lost 123 children to Palestine’s bombs.

Israel is better equipped, better manned, has more money. They are in control. They have illegally claimed land by UN standards. They have broke 65 UN resolutions. Palestine has broken none. Israel has demolished 10,000 Palatine homes. Palestine has demolished no Israeli homes. Israel has a 7 percent unemployment while Palestine has a 25 percent unemployment.

Israel censors what news the AP reports.

Israel has had spies in the USA, convicted spies for Israel. They knowingly attacked the USS Liberty without cause or provocation.

Pelosi has pledged support for Israel. The democratic congress has pledged support to Israel and more money will continue to pour into this conflict which drags the US into a Jewish/Muslim war.

Why did the terrorist attack us? Simply because they hate the USA? Why would they hate the USA? Maybe it’s because we are sending money and support to their enemy? Maybe it’s because we are Israel’s lap dog and will do whatever they say despite what they have done to us. Israel is the only US ally that aggressively spies on the USA. And whose fault is high unemployment? I would say the Hamas, fatah ladership. After all , a perfect example is Hamas who authorized the destruction of the farms abandoned by Israel upon their withdrawel.

Hamas NEEDS poverty in their people to make permanent war against Israel viable.

After all, why didn't the PLO leadership under Arafat accept the Isreal offer that gave in to nearly all demands? Because Arafat et al were bilking the euro money sent to "Palestine" and peace would interupt this. Peace would mean an end of the money train for the PLO/Hamas etc. And an end to the money train for them means a bullet in the braincase for the leaders when the populous can not be convinced to fight the Isrealis any longer.

My son's best friend was in Special forces and on one of the helicopters in that ill fated mission to reccue the hostages held by Iran. He saw his friends die in the one that went down.

Jihad Jimmy never met a dictator he didn't like or a terrorist he didn't love. He's been anti-Israel all his life.

Thinking about him reminds me, I have to go take my blood pressure meds.

I am very sorry to hear that. Those were some seriously brave soldiers on that ill-fated mission.

I have read several accounts of that mission over the years, the most recent being in Mark Bowden's Guests of the Ayatollah.

I am certainly no military planner, but it has always seemed to me that there were just too many things wrong with the planning, starting with the pitifully small number of resources allotted to the mission, and it went down hill from there.

I do not totally agree with Mr. Bowden, as I think it was an overall chickensh*t effort on Carter's part. He was the CIC, after all.

At the time of that mission I was an aircraft mechanic at Alvin Calendar Field.

The mission was doomed from the start. Helicopters are not capable of long range low level flights over desert sand. It takes special filters and maintenance to do even normal missions in desert conditions.

This mission was typical democrat show-time use of the military without any regard for the soldiers safety or their lives.

Of course these were American soldiers. If they had been Iranian soldiers Jihad Jimmy would have been more concerned about their well being and safety.

If I sound critical of Jihad Jimmy it's only because I am VERY critical of Jihad Jimmy.

Both Hamas/Palestine and Israel are guilty, and have been for half a century. The Palestinians want their lands back (I don't' blame them), and Israel just want's to exist (I can't blame them either). The bad blood between these two groups is far too deep for reconciliation, so that leaves only one option, annihilation. The only way for this to end is for one to destroy the other. They've both played the part of Bully and Victim. Both have breached morality. It'd be easier to tally who committed less wrong than the other. Either way, they just need to get it over with.

With Palestine gone, then Israel will have to deal with hostile neighbors. At least then, they'll be dealing with actual nations instead of a pseudo-state.

You have been fed the great lie from arab propagandists. There is no such thing as palestinians. They are Arabs. The land south of Israel - Arabs. The land west of Israel - Arabs The land north of Israel - Arabs.

The land around Israel was taken after the war in 1945. It was held by Jordan and Egypt until the war in 1967. No one complained about having a Palestinian state. No one. It was only after Israel took the land in a war that the propaganda campaign started.

The Israeli settlers? They are either buying the land they settle on or settling on unclaimed desert rock. They took no land from anyone.

Displaced people are easy to make angry, whether they were compensated for their loss or not. Only the surface of the moon is unclaimed desert rock (though that too can be disputed). By [the Israeli gov't] allowing people to expand simply hands propaganda to their enemies, so shame on them for falling for such a stupid trap.

I don't blame Israel for taking action against Gaza, but this conflict will end with only one winner. To think otherwise would be perpetual folly. I say get it over with. I did not elude to specifics or quantities, but to make a point that both sides have forfeited their 'blame' and 'victim' cards. Both sides are guilty of perpetuating the cycle of violence, and such a cycle will continue in perpetuity until one side finally crushes the other. It's as simple as that.

All this moral and emotional hand wringing is irrelevant clap-trap. Someone needs to get on with it and be done with it. The conflict has gone on so long that moral advantage was lost generations ago. But would it stay as small as to be decided between Hamas and Israel? Would Iran come to the aide of the terrorist regime they support along with Saudi Arabia and other pro-Palestinian nations? Who would get involved should Iran purchase Russian arms for Hamas? Things are never simple in the ME because of the number of lunatics running the asylum.

Oh, and I suggested that perhaps they organize a protest to call attention to the 14 children murdered by the terrorist sucide bomber in Afghanistan. Was met by, "oh, well that's becuase of the US occupation of Afghanistan." He, Ian, also reminded me that the USSR's invasion of Afghanistan in the late 70's was not an invasion. They, "a progressive," force, he said, were invited in by the people of Afghanistan. Isn't that nice? (;~> gary

They are the terrorist scum hiding themselves and their weapons amongst the civilians. I can only hope that the civilians rise up against their oppressors and throw Hamas and it's followers into a very deep pit.

What I wonder about is, what are 'innocent civilians' DOING in that area? Who would want to live there unless they have a hostile purpose? I don't think there is such a thing as an innocent civilian who CHOOSES to live in a de facto war zone.
The simple fact that the rest of the Arab world is content to use them for cannon fodder should be enough to convert them to freakin' buddhism. (I deliberately didn't capitalise that, does that make me racist?:))

the central question that Palestinian sympathizers need to ask themselves .. or anyone who as any sympathy for the Islamic(anti Israeli) cause is .... if Israel laid down their weapons how long would it take before Israel and its people were destroyed? Ok if Hamas/Hezbolllah/Iran/AQ etc... renounced violence what would Israels reaction be? The answer to those questions (if you are honest) is both obvious and revealing. So any action by Israel towards its enemies is neccessary, acceptable and overdue. The unfortunate aspect of innocents in Gaza or elsewhere being killed is due to the fact that the population of those areas either allow terrorists in their midsts or they outright support them which at the minimum makes them stupid or at the worst targets.
