Time's Joe Klein Pats McCain on Back for Ignoring Rev. Wright

Don't get me wrong. I love Christmastime. But in many other respects it can be the most dreaded time of the year for us media watchers. It is, after all, the time when liberal journalists decide to assign their year-ending accolades on everything from movies and music to politicians.

It's doubly dreadful when we're talking about Time magazine's Joe "Anonymous" Klein.

In a December 17 piece doling out his "Teddy awards" -- as in the first President Roosevelt, not the lingerie -- Klein began by cooing sweet nothings over Obama's political courage before giving muted praised for McCain. When all was said and done, Klein even praised Condi Rice, but even that was in service of his left-wing affinity for negotiating with dictators. [for our archive of Klein bias, click here]

While Klein largely disdained the McCain campaign's post-Palin message, he cheered the Arizona Republican for keeping Rev. Jeremiah Wright off-limits:

And what of his opponent? John McCain is a charter Teddy Award winner, a former exemplar of free-range political candor. Not this year. He ran a dismal campaign that seems even smaller in retrospect. He spent almost all his energy trying to besmirch his opponent without offering a memorable new idea. Still, he deserves credit for two steps he didn't take: he did not play the race card by regurgitating the hateful sermons of Jeremiah Wright, Obama's former pastor; and he did not play the anti-immigrant card that might have appealed to frightened average Joes and assorted plumbers throughout the Rust Belt and the Midwest. McCain has sullied his reputation, though, which is a pity. (A parenthetical and auxiliary Teddy should go to Tina Fey, not for courage so much as truth through hilarity: she nailed the absurdity of McCain's vice-presidential pick--the worst political decision of the year.)

Klein did give one Bush administration officials kudos, but the underlying policy question involved conservative concerns over Bush and Rice going too soft on North Korean nuclear blackmail artist/dictator Kim Jong-il:

There is no telling what sort of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice might have been in another Administration, but she deserves a going-away Teddy for standing up to Vice President Dick Cheney, especially when she defended her excellent North Korea negotiator, Christopher Hill.

I thought different. Odd

John McCain would rather lose a campaign than not be seen as a gentleman.

It was his inability to punch his opponent in the neck and THEN make him feel some serious pain that cost Sen. McCain the Presidency.

Maybe if the MSM had to repeat some of the meaner nastier comments about Obama's bestest buddies, the obamanuts might have actually HEARD of at least a few of his best buds.

Must Feel Good to Lose

I am not sure if McCain really wanted to win that race.  He can go down as the "good loser".

Making nice

Can't we all just get along? I read that Barry is calling Republicans to make nice now that he's screwed them and Mr. Nice Guy, John McCain. And so many RINOS are falling for it. We'll not win again, unless we grow some ... and begin to stand for something. Scheeze!

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

Had Klein not "cheered the Arizona Republican..."

Had Klein not "cheered the Arizona Republican for keeping Rev. Jeremiah Wright off-limits," we would have been disappointed in him for his inconsistency. The Reverend Jeremiah Wright is perhaps the most racist American, and neither McCain nor Klein has enough intelligence to recognize it.

Nice guys finish last

That said, I don't think that exposing Obama's shady connections is mean. Just honest.
'You are known by the company you keep'.
Obama himself said in one of his books that he 'chose his friends carefully'. If he chose these people carefully WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT HIM?!!!!
McCain's job was to clearly explain his positions, philosophy of governance and how he intended execute his duties as President. Ditto for Obama. The job of the press AND THE PEOPLE is to thoroughly examine these men and their lives.
I give them F's all round.
Let's gird our loins.

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

McCain's response

After reading the article McCain was overheard saying "The first time I didn't feel it, but this time I feel it, and I can't deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!"

The Klein caricature speaks

The Klein caricature speaks volumes for me.

Enough said...everyone already knows how I feel about McC...and I have also stated my opinion regarding Condi here and there.
