Update/Related Blog: Brian Maloney has a great post at Radio Equalizer, noting that Barr is a liberal radio talk show host, and asking where the outrage is on the Left about her arguably racist rant.
Not content with stopping at her anti-Catholic, anti-Mormon, and anti-Semitic November 6 screed, comedian Roseanne Barr has decided to direct fire against African-Americans for voting in large numbers to pass Proposition 8, the ballot initiative in California which amends the Golden State's constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman.
In a November 10 post to her blog, Barr scolded the 70 percent of California's blacks who voted for Prop 8 that they have conspired to "destroy" the Constitution and have made "a mockery" of marriage.:
They showed themselves every inch as bigoted and ignorant as their white christian right wing counterpartners who voted for mccain-palin and bush-cheney
Barr blamed "immoral and hateful pastors and clergy" for the results and preached her solution before calling for religious black voters to "repent":
When i suggested a couple of years ago that gay organizations should build official bridges with african american organizations, in order to build political consensus and not just represent a purely gay agenda, this very vote is what I was trying to speak to.
The gay community needs to do outreach to the black and latino christian and immigrant communities.the more things change, the more they stay the same.
REPENT all ye bible blabbers!!!!

November 10, 2008 - 16:05 ET by Wilbur747that since the group CAIR sponsored and backed Obama, and since Obama is pro-gay marriage, that CAIR may have sequestered the actual numbers voting for Prop 8.

Direct democracy
November 10, 2008 - 12:44 ET by Smoking HotI had a conversation with a friend on Saturday about this Prop. 8 outcome. He took the position that the California ballot proposition system is a bad idea because laws and Constitutional amendments benefit from the legislative process of compromise. While the Californian system can certainly speed welcome change along, in this case there was a narrow majority prevailing on everyone in a very blunt yes/no vote, and neither side is conceeding.
While I don't have a problem with this particular outcome on Prop. 8, I can't help but agree with him that direct democracy has its flaws. The Left will be looking at this victory and planning their own ballot initiatives, I can almost guarantee.

The problem is the conservative base in California is not energized or organized. Americans are very sensitive to this idea of rights being taken away.

This loon, along with other Prop 8 opponents, claims "70,000 (or pick a number, doesn't matter) children will be denied health insurance coverage."
Did these 70,000 bundles of joy just fall out of the sky into gay homes? Or were they born, in the 'old fashioned' heterosexual way, to parents of opposite sex? And if either of those parents have health insurance, which I'm sure most do, where does this non-coverage BS come in? Unless they're a ward of the state, every kid has at least one parent on whose policy they would be covered until they are 18, in addition to claiming them as a deduction.
I recently looked at the fine print on my health policy, and I didn't see anything that stated "coverage will be voided if the dependent is living with a homosexual couple."
70,000 question mark?
November 10, 2008 - 13:33 ET by lotrCurrently, the waiting list(s) in this country for infertile married couples seeking adoption is beyond sad -- the supply is already dreadfully low and demand is high. Nearly all adoptive parents I know had to go overseas, at their own expense, to "import" their children from fertile countries. Adding "homosexual couples" to the mix only adds to the demand without creating any supply.

Dear NB brothers and sisters
November 10, 2008 - 13:26 ET by CoolShadesDear NB brothers and sisters,
While we agree on about 99% of the issues posted here on NB, we're at difference here on the gay marriage issue. I live in California and voted NO on Prop 8 (for gay marriage). I had been on the fence regarding this issue for many years. I've met and know many gay people, though I'm hetro. Every one of them were good people. People I could trust. That's saying a lot in the cut-throat Silicon Valley High-Tech business world. I made my final decision after watching all the news coverage of gay couples getting married. What I saw was a lot of happiness. And in a split second I realized who am I to stand in their way.
Why should I listen to my Roman Catholic Church? They harbor and support illegal immigration. They abused young boys and maliciously concealed these acts. There is no forgiveness for a divorced person to marry "inside" the church. To name a few.
My point: In life, I must pick and choose my battles. This was a battle I no longer chose to fight. As I said, who am I to stand in their way.
Best regards.
I regret to inform you that...

November 10, 2008 - 14:03 ET by cocodrieI disagree with you on two points Cool Shade. First - homosexual marriage is not about happiness, it is about redefining the word marriage to mean something it has never meant in all of history. some of my conclusions thus far
November 10, 2008 - 17:23 ET by TruthMongercivilization requires morals - and someone must stand up for them
Civilzed moral people must stand in the way of immorality - or lose civilization - and not just sexual immorality but stealing, murder (which includes abortion), alcohol, drugs, materialism, gambling, etc...
You must truly love yourself to become morally sound. Those who turn from God's way do not truly love themselves - self-indulgence is not loving yourself - and that's what practicing gay sex is
True self love requires discipline - and again the rewards are health, happiness, prosperity and civilization - and you can't truly love anyone else until you truly love yourself first - it is completely impossible
And furthermore we also need to stress that no one can actually "be gay" - it is not a state of being - it is a brief sexual practice - the only way you could possible "be gay" is if you are having gay sex 24/7/365
Of course by way of comparison we are technically not "heterosexual" either - unless we are having hetero sex 24/7/365. We simply just "people" physically designed by God exclusively for heterosexuality within a marriage - any sexual activity outside of this would be sin...
When we all accept God and follow His ways then we will be on the road to true self love and truly loving all others - and true love will replace the cheap substitutes of gay sex, porn, prostitution, murder, stealing, gambling, materialism - these all stem from lack of self love
Therfore Jesus tells us the most important commandment is to love God with your whole heart and love all others as you love yourself...
thus undeth today's reading:)

November 10, 2008 - 16:03 ET by Cortillaen"While I admire your decision, which you made in a very rational and unemotional way..."
Blonde, I have to disagree with your assessment, here. CoolShades's justification for his decision is pure emotion. Anecdotal evidence by way of his feelings about such homosexuals as he (or she) has met and seeing "a lot of happiness" in the (decidedly biased) "news coverage of gay couples getting married" are the given reasons. With all due respect, that's a decision based solely on feelings.
As for my own opinions on the issue, I have no problem with Prop 8. I also do not agree with state-sanctioned marriage for homosexuals. Marriage is and always has been the realm of religion, and "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". I'm of the opinion that such privileges as are granted to married couples may be extended to homosexual couples as well, so long as the people desire it to be so, but the institution of marriage is to be left alone. If a homosexual couple wants to claim marriage, let them go find some church willing to put its name to the deed.

November 10, 2008 - 17:45 ET by bradbenj5952And if you are genuinely happy, who should ever stand in your way?
The whole argument comes down to an issue of authority. As long as we assume that we are the arbiters of right and wrong then the moral law in this and every other country will continue to decline into the abyss of depravity. Man did not create the universe and he certainly did not create himself. My vote was very simple. It was not my decision. I can do nothing in this matter that would violate the law of God and thus my vote was cast according to Leviticus 18:22 "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." Neither does it have anything to do whatsoever with any religious organization. The Word of God stands independent and above any religion created by man.
I know you were being sarcastic in your reply above, but I do find it instructive that the very next verse after the one I quoted above is, "Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion." And kudos, to the Californians who passed Prop 8. Unfortunately, here in Massachusetts, where we have drunken sods and bra stuffers in the Senate, and idiots for Governors, they're too cowardly to put an issue like same-sex marriage on the ballot, because they don't trust voters to vote their will.
Liberal Conundrum
November 12, 2008 - 19:16 ET by andophiroxiaHi Guys;
This is my first time posting here after lurking. I feel honored to do so.
This is what I find funny about the entire thing.
Obama became at least President-Elect with about 52% of the vote. Now, that's considered a mandate by the people... even though Bush won 51% and that was 'stolen' and people were stupid and misguided.
The liberals jumped for joy calling the voter wise, unracist, unbigoted, etc.
However, Proposition 8 passes due to people voting and well they're unhappy about that screaming bigotry, ignorance, and hate.
Boy, they're spoiled children.
I would only agree with gay marriage if they tried to make their own institutions and were blocked: their own church and their own ceremony. Look at the Church of Satanism. I would call that unconstitutional if that happened. However, they're trying to forcibly change a societal contract of which brings families together, resolves the male/female differences and matures both people, and legitamizes children without a proper argument and with emotional blackmail. I'm sure there's a reasoned case for it somewhere and I'd be open to listening to that, but all I hear is "because it's unfair!" and "You're mean!". The Left operates that way and it's our job to counteract that. Too many times they've rewritten tolerance, acceptance, working together, reaching across the aisle, etc. for their own purposes. Those are not bad words, but they've perverted them to what they want--including hatred and misuse of religion in general.
I say we take them back.

Media Only Interested in Some Muslim Stories
November 11, 2008 - 10:36 ET by ecnirPAs is evidenced by this article detailing NBCs failed sting operation trying to get "rednecks" to show their hatred of Muslims, http://www.roanoke.c..., the media are only interested in certain angles of the Muslim story.
Of course, my favorite comment I heard at the time from a Nascar fan...if I may paraphrase...was "if they really wanted to see a reaction they'd've put a Jeff Gordon shirt on him."
These 'celebrities' stayed
November 11, 2008 - 10:55 ET by RR GOPThese 'celebrities' stayed fairly quiet during the election. Now they have all this pent up frustration and self-righteous hatred to spew against anyone who doesn't agree with their absolutist views.
Actually, I'd love to see her get on Obama since he believes (at least in public) in the traditional view of marriage.
One of the 24% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 89% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory.
So much for PEACEFUL protests from the Left
