Party Label Missing in Story of Dem Congressman's Sex Offender Son

The son of an 8-term Democratic congressman from Illinois has pleaded guilty to having sex with jail inmates under his charge, the Chicago Sun-Times News Group reported today. Yet the congressman's Democratic Party affiliation was left out of the story altogether:

The son of U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush will spend six months in jail after pleading guilty to having sexual encounters with two female inmates and arranging encounters with another while serving as a state prison official.

Jeffrey M. Rush, 42, of the 700 block of Brookfield Court in Lake Zurich, pleaded guilty Wednesday to three counts of official misconduct and agreed to a sentence of 180 days in the Kane County Jail and three years probation, according to a release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s office.

Two of the charges stem from sexual relationships Rush had with two female prison inmates between Feb. 1 and June 18, 2007, while he was serving as head of security at the Fox Valley Adult Transition Center at 1329 Lake St. in Aurora, the release said.

Rep. Bobby Rush, a former Black Panther, was first elected to the House in 1992.

And the race is not mentioned. Hmmmm

Yeah I cant imagine his race

Yeah I cant imagine his race or affiliation.  His father does belong to an all inclusive group called the Black Panthers though.  HMMMM.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

Just wondering

When stories like this are written like this: ''The son of U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush...'', I know 'Rep.' is short for Representative.  But does the AP consider that maybe some readers will think it is short for Republican?

Does typing out the full word of Representative take up THAT much more space or time?

I wouldn't doubt that they

I wouldn't doubt that they hope some of their readers will think "rep." stands for "republican"....otherwise, why leave off the (D)?

No, Rep. is standard

No, Rep. is standard shorthand in AP Style. Saving space is quite important when dealing with print media, less so for online sources, but even there economizing on space is essential for headlines and most features.

Space Saving

I guess that would be the standard answer for leaving out the word 'Democrat'.

In some cases it could be,

In some cases it could be, I'm just saying it's, in my professional opinion, highly unlikely the abbreviation "Rep." is used out of a concerted effort to confuse people unaware that it means "representative."

Ken

So, if that's true, then why is the word "Republican" repeated so many times in an article that is unfavorable to the republican? Print space seems to not be an issue when that happens.

I would recommend we consider the real, real world we live in instead of the ideal world we would like.

Are you kidding??

I seriously doubt anyone would think a Black Panther in the House of Representatives would be a republican!!

See? Another sex scandal involving a relative of a republican! - - Joy Behar (applause, applause)

I stand corrected.

They voted in an ex black panther?

Then i don't have any sympathy for any of them.   We need a fence built...not just along the US/Mexican border.

D.C. voted in a convicted crackhead

Ex Black Panther shouldn't be too surprising.

But don't anyone ever claim

that DC voters are racist!  What does character count when making an important decision such as MAYOR of your city???

Not only that,

but, naturally, this guy is from Chicago. 'nuff said?

The guy has been out of elected office for some time now, but nonetheless, this story makes its way to Page 1.

think about how the media looks at this ....

why bring forth democrat scandals when we can keep dredging up mark foley and larry craig every week?

i'm sure if sex were involved, they'd still be talking about the teapot-dome scandal ...

and...what's the name of that

(D) fellow in West Palm Beach now embroiled in a sex scandal...I know it's Irish...MUST be Foley...that's the only name the papers or television have ever printed or mentioned.  It's not???

Hmmm could it possibly be Mahoney?????  with a (D) after it!!!!  I'll have to check online or listen to talk radio to be sure ;-)

Apple doesn't fall from the tree now does it...

I was furious when Rush got elected and a member of Congress...and I still am...

Nobody pays attention to the fact we have a former, yeah right, Black Panther member in congress...

...and of course the enemy within arm of the leftist party isn't going to mention race or party ect ect ect...

Just getting past tiring...all of this hypocrisy/bias is...even if it is used by omission, this too gets past old.

Jeffery Rush the first Obama pardon

Obviously Jeffery Rush fell on hard economic times due to the man keeping down the brother. All the girlies were hot for the first black President Bill Clinton and all that was left was institutional rape for Jeffery Rush.

In understanding all of this, President Obama who has been President in his mind since May must have already issued a pardon and will soon issue the Jesse Jackson license to lay where women can take time off their sentences for each service call they answer in the Obama draft of all women into the military.
Women in prison will simply be the KP division of Keeping P..... I will leave that the P stands for.

Obviously this will cost 1 trillion dollars more in Obama spending as Sec. of  Sex, Sec. of Aborticide and Sec. Obasim will need to regulate this knew industry.
Remember Joe Biden said Obama will create 2 million jobs.

Obama is just going to employ 1 million prison inmate women in a sexual draft and hire 1 million pals of Obama to partake.
