Chicago Sun-Times Leaves Out Key Facts About Singing Obama Kids

Photo of Ken Shepherd.

Picking up on an AP story, the Chicago Sun-Times posted the now-infamous video of a group of kids singing about Sen. Barack Obama (paragraph breaks removed):

A video featuring children singing a song in tribute to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is a hit on YouTube, garnering 596,000-plus views in just one version. Obama's critics have ripped the song, comparing it to a video of North Korean children singing to their dictator. Supporters defend it as just cute children singing. Judge for yourself.

Nowhere in the brief Web site posting did the Sun-Times or the AP note that professional Hollywood expertise went into the production of the video. As blogger Bob Owens noted at Confederate Yankee:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

While described as a grassroots effort, Kathy Sawada, who posted the video and can been seen directing the children in the video, is a bit more than just an enthusiastic music teacher you might find in your average public school.

Sawada is a teacher at an elite and expensive Colburn School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles as part of the Piano faculty. Colburn just built a $120 million 12-story high-rise addition for their musicians.

Does a concert-quality musician in an elite school in the middle of the most ego-centric city in the United States count as a "grassroots" effort?

Here's a partial list of those who helped produce this "grassroots" effort:

  • Jeff Zucker - Gaffer, Chief Lighting Technician in Boogie Nights.
  • Post-producer (former choreographer?) Holly Shiffer.
  • Motion picture camera operator/steadicam specialist Peter Rosenfeld (appropriately enough, worked in Yes Man, a movie about " a guy challenges himself to say 'yes' to everything for an entire year."
  • Darin Moran, another motion picture industry professional, who just finished filming - how appropriate - Land of the Lost.
  • Andy Blumenthal, Hollywood film editor.

And here's the video in question:

Honest, I tried...

I really did try to watch this video.

The problem was, at about 45 seconds into it, I couldn't control my gag reflex any more, and it was either turn the wretched thing off, or spew lunch all over my computer.

IT sad part is that they expect us to believe that this is just a bunch of kids that wanted to express their appreciation for Mr. Obama.

What a bunch of tools.

That was the most disturbing thing I have seen in a long time. Am surprised they didn't have on Obama arm bands. That would have been the trifecta of child abuse for these children.

FTCMIT, It makes me wonder...

...if any of the parents of these kids were Republicans?

Isn't this how the Hitler Youth Corps started? And don't bet on Osama Bama saying a freakin' thing about this - that moron is probably basking in the adoration of these up-and-coming brainwashed mini-commies.

We should have figured that Hollyweird libs had a major hand in the production process. We are indeed in trouble in America.

Our "Dear Leader"

Let's see now,

Fascist/Soviet - looking campaign posters and materials

Supporters trying to shut down a radio show where Obama would be criticized

Supporters in Congress promising to reinstute the "Fairness Doctrine" effectively shutting down Obama's critics in talk radio

The media becoming part and parcel of Obama's campaign organization

The grandiose podium set for Obama's nomination looking vaguely Nuremburg-like

The idolation of Obama by many of his supporters, making them fanatics and almost resembling a cult

Opposition to him met by accusations of "racism" - to intimidate his critics

Obama's offer to send thousands of his supporters to the South for hurricane relief - like they are at his beck and call

The contest for "artists" to submit heroic portraits of Obama for judgement

Now, children are trained to sing songs of praise to Obama like in North Korea or Stalin's USSR

All this creepiness, even before he's elected

What will it be like if he is elected?

Feel free to add...

Nope, I think you

Pretty much covered it all! Bravo, sir!

I hate to ever sound like Alec Baldwin, but I may just have to move if this doesn't go our way. I can't take four years of this! I've never once been on sedatives, but there could very well be a first time for everything!

BTW--I'm so glad to have found a normal home at NB. I usually spend the day on local message boards with a bunch of loons. Suddenly, I'm at peace!

Welcome - the people here

Welcome - the people here are (mostly) friendly and the water is warm (with only an occasional annoying liberal troll minnow to nip at your legs) :)

McNotObama '08

Chris, don't feel bad;

Chris, don't feel bad; you're not alone. I feel the same way.

I don't have the option of moving to another country, but I can't take much more of this. I have not been on NB nearly at all today, because I can't take it.

If I disappear from NB for a time, that will be why.  I remember before, Warner saying I would still come around and comment; I'm not sure any more.  I've always enjoyed arguing politics and current events like this, but I really may have to tune out completely; stick to the Food Network, SciFi, and the Speed Channel.

I wish I were joking.

mb,I hear you. Politics

mb,

I hear you. Politics today is about as easy to watch as a basketball game one knows is rigged and the referees have all been bought off by one of the teams playing.

I tend to watch the cable channels above 34 (Fox News) on our local Comcast also - I'm really beginning to appreciate Discovery Health and TruTV. The depressing thing is, NBC is buying up all the cable channel networks to show their thousands of reruns of "Law and Order" aka "What the Police Would Be Like if They Were All Liberals".

However, do not suffer in isolation. Come here and be among (for the most part) friends and allies. It's a good place to see that not everyone has gone nuts, politically. If the worst thing happens and Obama is elected, we can all hold hands and cry on each other's shoulders - in at least a cyber kind of way. :)

BTW, I am having more and more of an urge to take the next practical step and picket a network news show - like they did at the GOP convention to NBC News. Why not? If we know something is bad and protest can be effective - why stop with just writing about it? We don't see liberals just writing about their opposition to what they disgree with. Too bad, I'm stuck in fly-over country where seldom is seen a network news figure and our local news is so lame, it's not worth protesting.

McNotObama '08

MB, I get the same feeling

MB, I get the same feeling several times a day it seems. What took me out of it today was Mark Levin's opening on tonight's show. He did a "Patton speech" as he called it, and did it well. Basically, he said now's the time to fight. There is too much to lose to let Obama win, to let MSM get away with their tricks. And lots more.

He didn't say anything we don't already feel and know. But the fact he said it at all, with energy and courage, brought me out of my funk. I emailed him to tell him how much I appreciated it.

The major media report only half the news. Why are they surprised they have only half the potential audience?

Good list. I would add a

Good list.

I would add a recent development: Obama launching the Attorney Generals and law enforcement in several states, (MO. for one) to intimidate and arrest citizens with bumper stickers, etc., that challenge Obama's candidacy. This is straight out out of 1930's National Socialist Germany. And as you suggest, if he's elected, he will really unleash his destroy-America agenda.

The major media report only half the news. Why are they surprised they have only half the potential audience?

I was going to add that but

I was going to add that but couldn't remember the details. Excellent - let's give it a bullet point and add it to the list. All lightness aside, it really does make one think about the practices and atmosphere surrounding his campaign for chancellor - er - president. I think when a politician's supporters become fanatical, this is the kind of influence and thinking that results - "Liberal Fascism", indeed.

McNotObama '08

Yep. I suspect that there

Yep. I suspect that there are many other "developments" like those on your list that haven't come to light yet because they are being supressed by the MSM. But we'll find them. I'm teaching my 104 pound yellow lab to sniff them out.

The major media report only half the news. Why are they surprised they have only half the potential audience?

I'm afraid we as a free

I'm afraid we as a free country have now forgotten the lessons learned from Nazi Germany. Which is exactly what the left wants.

Palin Is Caught And Her Career Is Over!

Making Fun of AGW http://giovanniworld.wordpress.com/

A GREAT LIST !!!!!!

Thanks Chris. That is an excellent run-down of the many, many things that are so frightening about this candidate.

You go to liberal sites and they ramble on about things that "frighten" them about Republicans and sometimes make lists, too, but they're fraught with non-facts, fudged figures or just flat-out made up stuff from rumors.

All of this HAS BEEN HAPPENING, out in the open, for and surrounding this guy. And your list doesn't even touch on his other *real* frightening past/background and multitude of associations, that's been so protected by the MSM.

And everyone, I agree, it's all sort of depressing. McCain/Palin have a good shot, regardless of the polls and MSM attack dogs, but it's the corrupt media that's so depressing.

NOW PLAYING:
Governor Palin Get Your Gun

All these bothersome creepy

All these bothersome creepy individual items present one chilling tapestry when one steps back and views them all together.

The thing is, we wouldn't be where we are if the media would just serve it's purpose and do it's basic job.

big dude

I was in a casual group and made a comment about Obama in response to something said. A big dude that appeared as white as Barry came over to kissing range, towered over me and told me he was offended. It was a strange experience... one I blew off because he didn't realize he was ignorant... but people are following Barry's advice.
I'll tell you one thing, I will not sit in the back of the bus if he becomes President.

The Parody is already up on youtube

I knew it couldn't have

I knew it couldn't have been filmed in a "home next door".

"Forget change, I want improvement!"

Is that whole school

Is that whole school decorated for Obama?  Did you see the walls?

This is a propaganda film, pure and simple.

Do you think these kids developed this idea on their own?  Do you think they know anything about Obama other than what they have been told?

Send someone in with a microphone in to ask some of these kids: Obama's gonna change it?  Gonna change what?

I weep for my country.

This is creepier than Lenny Reifschendal

The only thing that would have creeped me out more was all of these kids raising their hands with an "O" and shouting "O".   Or "Oh  Bah  Mah!!!"

Sorry, I spelled the Kraut broad's name wrong.  I'm allowed.  Half Kraut myself.

David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive

Too bad

Too bad they couldn't have those children sing proudly about America.

Oh, that's right, liberals aren't proud, they are ashamed.

obama kids

reminds me of the Hitler youth. scary as hell.

Nazi Broadcasting Corporation

The Nazi style video was the brainchild (feces) of the head of the Nazi Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), and they aren't in the tank for Hussein? Since Hussein admitted on national TV that he is a Muslem and hold to the Muslem faith I'd worry about full blown Islam rather than Socialism/Communism coming with the Hussein regime. No Christian in the world would make a 'mistake' and state anything about their "Muslem faith'. The truth slipped out and Hussein didn't even catch it. It had to be pointed out to him by a democrat media slime ball.

The indoctrination efforts of the socialists are DANGEROUS! They mold children into fanatics.

Barry is just following Al Gores lead. Remember this;

I agree HK

That group LC rocked.Back OT:How the parents could use these kids for a tool is beyond me.That is the problem in this country.People use kids for politics. They need to import some profession Caners from Singapore and apply the cane liberal to those so called parents.

The emotional ploy.

Well, the appeal to emotions is generally a "sob" story. Yet Barry's camp has used children to insert emotion in a more subtle manner.

The kids are the perfect cue to suggest that a vote for Barry will beneifit your children. It "works" on so many different levels.

When I read your comment I had this thought also; Does the fact that kids are singing for Barry imply that they(the children) are the only ones that can grasp his message? I mean, only a child could believe the fantasy that Barry has propagated about himself. Of course what does that say about the millions of adults that believe the fantasy too?

A couple of other things. This whole children singing thing is SOOO quasi-religious it defies belief. Talk about demigod type adulation, geez.

The cult of personality being built around Barry should be the DEFINITIVE indication of his lack of substance.

I wonder if LC would agree with me that their song fits Barry to a tee?

As for the caners, I got the sneeky suspicion those parents would like that sort of thing. :-}

HK

I think LC would. It is pretty sad when adults dont let kids be kids.Doesnt matter if it is at schools or political rallies.Useing kids to push a agenda is wrong.I think your right on some of parents enjoying the caneing.

Here is another parody of it.

Singing Kids

HK, I saw the video of the kids, and it reminded me of all the North Korean kids singing about the "Dear Leader".  Talk about brainwashing.....

Yep Emma

brainwashing it is. i posted over in the forums about how shortly after Drudge posted this and the links to the stories related to it, they all went dead. It's another tactic of the socialists. Revisionist history and all that.

Barry and his ilk want to make our Republic a Socialocracy.

PS Must be fun related to someone who clearly got you a job you can't handle.

That Was Creepy

Reminds me of "The Manchurian Candidate" -- brainwashing, conditioning, inserting linkage, "building" people for a political purpose, complete with the mantra that Obama is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life.

What was even more frightening was the expression on the faces of the adults.  Talk about glassy-eyed zombies!

I echo the sentiments of  Sonia H (above), "Too bad they couldn't have those children sing proudly about America."

Another leftist creation reminiscent of Hitler Youth and the Young Pioneers.

Will collars of liberal blue kerchiefs soon adorn the necks of America's liberal youth?

What do you think Obama (and Michelle) think when they see videos like these?

ADDING:  Just saw O'Reilly segment reporting Obama had this video displayed on his campaign website -- from the end of August until today -- when it was removed.

How many more pages can Obama remove from his website without notice or explanation?  It's got to be in the record-making numbers by now.

So, to answer my own question, Obama and Michelle saw it as the tool of propaganda it was intended to be, used it for as long as they could, then had to remove it when reasonable and rational minds held him to account for another of his brazen displays of self-glorification.

100% right on!

Ridiculous

Ok, how is it not hypocritical for people to be praising this video?  Yes, the kids are cute and their singing is adorable.  I can't even imagine the storm it would whip up if such a video were to have come out with the subject being Bush.  Screams of indoctrinating and manipulating children would be thrown all about and lawyers would be immediately thrown into the fray.  But no, this is the greek god, Obamassiah.  The children are just singing a hymn unto their saviour.  The man who will "unquestioningly" bring about change and fix everything.

I fear what influences are behind the creation of the video.  I would be just as opposed if this were made with McCain as the subject; it's quite simply indoctrinating and using children.

On a side note, of all these Obama supporters and pretty much every one I've met, how many can actually say how the man will miraculously fix all the problems?  Hope and change is the only thing people follow him for and to hell with experience and any seizable planning.

If anyone else checked out the comments, it's interesting to see how despite comments being disabled, there is not one negative comment left.  The closest I found was an Obama supporter commenting on how they are engaging in unnecessary censorship to remove all opinions aside from those giving blazing support.

Save this video.  It's such a great example of several propaganda devices.

I can't imagine Republicans

I can't imagine Republicans doing this sort of thing. Even the most devoted Reganites go on and on about his POLICIES. His ACCOMPLISHMENTS. They never raised him to the status of a god.

And we remember his

And we remember his mistakes (such as Illegal Imigration Amnesty), mostly so we do not repeat them.  (Pay attention John McCain!)

DISTURBIA

its extremely disturbing to see this video for a number of reasons

Yea there is so much as I have watched this multiple times that just floors me .....the adults in it are.. its just so hard to describe .. on one hand they are proud of their kids but their look is much more creepy and unsettling than that.

My opinion but any parent that controls thier kids thinking is just wrong .. my daughter agrees with me at times at other times she thinks I am way to harsh .. if she came to me and said she liked Obama I would ask her why and have an actual conversation ... but these kids look like they are in lock step with their parents

appeasment you can count on

I'm glad to be in good company...

I've been disturbed about this video and all that it entails, and have vocalized such for two days (in addition to the Truth Squad development), so I'm worn out, perhaps lacking a reasonable comment.

But, I am glad to see that I'm among other concerned Americans who are equally disquisted and concerned. Albeit, I'm sorry to share such misery in apparently good company.

Maybe this is a stress LOL but I clicked on a link here to the parody video and saw this comment:

"
Obama loves me this I know.. for the bail out tells me so..."

I laughed out loud, and it was good. Then again, I could be losing it from propoganda overdose.

BTW: I adore and am grateful for Newsbusters.

P .S. I'm wanting to change my nickname :-)

Ugh, I Feel The Need For A Cold Shower After That!!!

This reminds me of a cross between, "Children of the Corn" and "Village of the Damned".

Hofstra poll: McCain leads suburban vote
BY KARLA SCHUSTER
September 29, 2008

Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain holds a slight edge over Democratic rival Sen. Barack Obama among suburban voters, according to a new poll sponsored by Hofstra University released Monday.

The nationwide poll, conducted for Hofstra's National Center for Suburban Studies, found that 48 percent of suburban voters said they support McCain, compared to 42 percent for Obama.

By comparison, the poll found that McCain leads Obama among rural voters, 51 percent to 35 percent, while Obama is ahead in urban areas, 57 percent to 34 percent.

"Suburban voters have decided victors in not only the last five presidential contests, but control of Congress and state houses," said Lawrence Levy, director of the National Center for Suburban Studies.

The poll also revealed a significant gender gap in McCain's support among suburban voters -- suburban men favor him over Obama by a margin of 51 percent to 40 percent, while suburban women are evenly split, with both men drawing 45 percent.

The telephone survey of 1,033 suburban residents and 493 urban and rural residents was conducted from Sept. 15-21. The total margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points; for suburban residents it was plus or minus 4 percentage points.

i was just thinking

Even more chilling when the "modern day script" is provided to the history repeating itself via the Obama campaign.

Frightening.

Just a few word/name changes

Just a few word/name changes and it sounds very familiar in today's setting.  I just don't see how the Obama campaign can be oblivious to all of the parallels.  Personally, I don't think that they are unaware.  I truly believe that they are following the strategies of mass movements before them.

"Change" is needed, we are told, to rescue us from the dark times of national shame.  Granted, the situation of the U.S. today is nowhere near the level of catastrophe that Germany faced after WWI and the Versailles Treaty, but it does seem as though the Obama campaign has taken a page from the post-WWI playbook.  Jews aren't the villains now, it's George Bush and the Republicans.  Now here is the one man who can rescue us from the darkness.  The posters, the salute, the symbols, the slogans, government is the cure for the nation's ills, the "silence-your-critics" tactics, a fawning media, the dubious alliances/friends/connections, the oft-repeated lies (I believe it was Hitler who said that any lie told often enough will be believed.).  We are (so we are told) hated throughout the world, as was Germany in 1918.  One man can restore us to our former greatness, can return us to a position of strength, and lead us back into the fellowship of nations.

Unfortunately, we live in an age of over-blown, high-flying extremist rhetoric.  As a result, it makes many of the responses on this thread seem over-the-top.  I sincerely believe, however, that many of the conclusions drawn on these postings are deadly accurate.  I was worried at the prospect of Gore or Kerry winning their respective elections.  This is a different matter.  People are blindly accepting the words of and following a man I truly believe to be a charlatan and false prophet.  The potential election of Barack Obama to the Presidency of this great nation is a horrific thought.  And I'm afraid that it will happen.

Hitler represented something new and exciting, a break with the old - promise and hope for the future.  His promises were lies, his belief that the end does justify the means.  Obama represents the same.  John McCain is the old.  He does not have the appeal, the charm, and the magnetism to go up against a modern-day P.T. Barnum.

Add one other complication to all of this.  The names "Hitler" and "Nazi" have been thrown across the aisle so much in these past 8 years that I'm not sure they carry the same weight and significance in our political discourse.  Given that it has become politically fashionable to call your opponent a Nazi or Hitler (i.e. BusHitler) that to make any really significant comparison is easily dismissed as radical extremist name-calling.

Please forgive the somewhat random organization of this posting... I was trying to get my thoughts posted as quickly as possible.

Video

Obama is a follower of Saul Alinsky from community organization to his idea of change.

Look at that video again instead of today make it the 1960's China Chairman Mao and put little read books in their hands.

We have to stop him ourselves the pathetic left is so sold on this empty suit there is absolutely no reasoning with them. We have to save this country if we want to preserve it in any shape or form of it's former self for future generations.
