Writing on "Michelle Obama's Savvy Sacrifice," Time magazine's Jay Newton-Small sought to bring out what the Illinois senator's spouse "is less likely to talk about" when she addresses the Democratic National Convention tonight. No, not her Princeton thesis or her being proud of America for the first time in her adult lifetime but rather:
that this tough, razor smart Chicago native had to sacrifice many of her own career ambitions along the way.
Newton-Small went on to portray, in a positive light, Mrs. Obama's role in supporting her husband's political ambitions, before closing on this note (emphasis mine):
Her hint of nuclear-family nostalgia is also what helps make this very strong woman a much less threatening figure to the audiences who have throughout the campaign warmed to her homespun, sensitive speaking style. That down-to-earth appeal should be on full display Monday night, when she appears in her biggest venue yet. But that is only part of the real Michelle Obama. The country wouldn't get a two-for-one Bill and Hillary presidency if she were to become First Lady, but it would definitely get a lot more than many people realize.

Michelle Obama
August 25, 2008 - 15:18 ET by iveseenitallI've personally known a few "razor-sharp" intelligent people in my long life. Maybe three. This Affirmative Action sociology major is not "razor sharp". After reading her thesis, I'd say she is not even "sharp". Furthermore, just as her hubby, she's obviously been indoctrinated in radical, ignorant left-wing politics. From what I've heard her say, just as her hubby, she has alot of growing up to do. Just as her hubby, she lives in a bubble and is constantly flattered (lied to)about what and who she is. She's an over-paid, below average person who got where she is because of her "minority" status. No matter how the propaganda machine spins it, no matter what the wrapping paper, she's still the big mouth with a big chip on her shoulder. Neither she, nor her hubby, have earned what they have. And due to Affirmative Action, they've cheated others who have earned it. This is anti-American to the core.
NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

Let's hope the American people can see through the charade.

iveseen -- oh, you read
August 25, 2008 - 13:57 ET by Jack Baueriveseen -- oh, you forced yourself to read that remarkably narcissistic document too?
It's all about HER! Third rate sociology clap-trap. I went to college full of highly "political" folks like her.
They come in every shape, size and color.
Liberal Ideology
August 25, 2008 - 14:39 ET by GothampcI went to a grad school that was extremely liberal and yes they do come in every shape, size and color. But their ideology (read hatred) is astonishing. In one class, I brought up the fact that Condoleeza Rice was a black woman in a high ranking position and you would have thought I was suggesting eating Christian babies for lunch. I couldn't believe the nasty comments made about her. That was a wake-up call for me. There is no reasoning with liberals. They run only on emotions.
Get shovels, and plenty of 'em
August 25, 2008 - 13:51 ET by SickofLibsRazor sharp? Homespun, sensitive speaking style? Down-to-earth appeal? This guy can't be serious.
$325,000/yr in 2006 from her hospital gig and Treehouse Foods board job... are we supposed to believe she SHOULD BE earning $5 million a year because she's so brilliant and anything less is a big sacrifice?
Keep laying it on, MSM... the bag is about to explode in your collective face.
Sacrifice?
August 25, 2008 - 13:52 ET by IamTinmanPardon, but the lady is working in a prestigious position at one of Chicagos finest public institutions, making a salary most of us would kill for, (figuratively, don't get caught up in the hyperbole) and hobnobbing with the nations elite. She has two healthy children and a husband running for the White House. Sounds like an okay life to me.
I'm not in any way trying to knock Michelle Obama, she seems like a wonderful lady, but please will the media quit trying to deify both of them. It's bad enough listening to Chris Mathews and the like drooling over Barry.
Thanks!
August 25, 2008 - 14:56 ET by Secret ConservativeThank you for the links that got me to Michelle Obama's Princeton Senior thesis. After wading through the entire document (and making more than a few red-pencil marks as I did) I can see that she is not exactly a Rhodes scholar. She's not even a very good writer, but then maybe that's not required for a Princeton degree. (It certainly was where I went to school.)
So, do you think she'd appreciate receiving a copy with my editorial comments and her grade on it? :-)
Sorry, but if Michelle is trying to garner sympathy because she "only" makes $325K annually and still sometimes has to make the beds for her kids, it isn't going to come from me. You know she doesn't regret not staying home to raise her kids.
