AP Buries Party Label of Dem Politician Accused of Sexual Advance

James Marzilli, a Democratic Massachusetts state senator and board member of the liberal Americans for Democratic Action* was arrested yesterday.

The Associated Press has an 11-paragraph story that dutifully buries Marzilli's party affiliation in the very last paragraph.:

Corey Welford, a spokesman for Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone, said Marzilli is accused of approaching a woman who was sitting on a park bench, making an "inappropriate comment" and attempting to touch her in a sexual manner, which she forcibly resisted.

Welford said when Marzilli was approached by Lowell police he allegedly gave them a false name. He was arrested after a police chase.

[...]

Marzilli, a Democrat, spent 17 years in the House before winning a special election in December to fill a vacant seat in the Senate.

*N.B.: Although Marzilli's official state senate bio says he serves on ADA's board of directors and has since 1990, the ADA Web site does not list his name among the directors on the Officers & Staff page.

maybe he can claim that he

maybe he can claim that he was despondant over the death of harvey korman and was simply trying to recreate a ruth buzzi sketch in his honor!

at least that's what i thought when i read this story!

Figures

I'm not sure why they do it, but you know if this was a republican it would have been mentioned in the first few sentences.  Its crazy.

Not only that it would look

Not only that it would look like this REPUBLICAN

...and if they could probably stick some arrows pointing to the party too.

Ever so Subtle

They are just so subtle about the republican mistakes aren't they?

If it was a Republican

If this had been a Republican the whole story would have been different. His Party affiliation would have been in the headline something like "Long Time Republican Congressman Caught in Sex Assault Case", then it would have gone on to mention every allegation of sexual misconduct of Republican officials from Bob Packwood to Mark Foley.

That's the way the press treats Republicans; it's a sad fact of life.

Rarer than whooping cranes.

Anything a Republican Massachusetts senator does is newsworthy. They are rarer than whooping cranes.

Impunitas semper ad deteriora invitat.

Add it to the pile.  How

Add it to the pile.  How many examples of this does this make in the last six months?

No Republicans in Ma.

This story is all over the news, at least the Talk Radio news,  here in massachusetts.  Here it's a given that they guy is a Democrat since i think there are at the most 2 Republican in office in all of the state.

I knew this would come up when I first heard the story yesterday.

We have a relatively new Talk Radio host here on the local station in Boston who is pretty left of center imo, but she constantly points out how corrupt these Dems are.

You'd think they way they carry  on (dems) about how corrupt GWB is and all, but these pack of Democrats that run Massachusetts, including the new Gov, are all a bunch of sleavy losers.

Apparenlty the guy in question has been accused 4 times but manages to get away with it each time, probably because the Dems run the state.

party affiliation

When the party isn't identified in the first para, you can be sure it's a democrat so there is no big deal. The Lame Stream Media has at least shown us that.
