It's just a matter of time now before NBC brings back "Fear Factor" the next time the network does a "Green is Universal" pitch.
Time.com this morning has a video feature on "How to Cook Bugs." The tease on the front page insists that "[a] great way to save the planet may be to stop eating beef and munch on crickets instead."
Insisted the video narrator:
If you can get beyond the ick factor, insects like grasshoppers can actually be a healthy, low-fat source of protein and vitamins. And when you realize how much land, food, and water it takes to produce cattle, then maybe raising crickets for food isn't such a bad deal for the earth.

Liberals eating bugs??
June 2, 2008 - 11:31 ET by jefflebowskiKnock yourself out! Do these morons sit around pining about the good old days when humans lived in caves?
As for me, I think I'll enjoy a big, juicy steak this evening!

Well...
June 2, 2008 - 22:23 ET by ChesterBogusThis is exactly the kind of xenophobia that is difficult to pin down.
You seem to be suggesting that only cavemen eat bugs. Hm. I'm sure that the vast number of contemporary cultures that eat bugs would like to have a word with you. One of them, I should point out, probably built the computer you us, or helped develop the technology that powers it - the Japanese love bugs, and there is a cricket season there. They are quite a long way from being cavemen.
This is the kind of thing that very subtly reveals a person's prejudices. You would be confused if I did call you racist, because you see no connection between bugs and cave men and xenophobia. But there is a connection, however subtle, and it reveals vast ignorance about the way the world works.
Bugs are very, very good sources of food. Many people eat them. In fact, according to a very good friend that served with a recon unit, Marines are made to eat bugs for survival training in the jungles of Indonesia where he fought terrorists...wait. Wait a second.
You implied that only cavemen eat bugs, but our troops eat bugs, too. You said that people suggesting we eat bugs for survival are morons, but American soldiers eat bugs for survival, too! While fighting terrorists!
Why did you insult our troops?!
Why do you support terrorism?!
And, yes, that's how you people sound. All the time.
Please stop insulting the Japanese, the Australian Aborigines and scores of other people that eat bugs as a part of their traditional culture.

You have got to be kidding. You got all that from Jeff's very short post.
Jeff made none of those connections, you did. What he did make was a comment about how libs want us to go back to living the pure and simple life of a caveman. You know, no technology, no advancements, just living out in good old bare ass nature without that very evil invention of Conservatives..... CO2.
Please do us a favor and skip procreation. Thanks.

Time Warner, parent of Time
June 2, 2008 - 12:04 ET by jdhawkTime Warner, parent of Time Magazine, has been in the toilet as a stock since the "dot bomb" days of 2000/2001.
They recently shut down any further development on the browser, Netscape after spending $10 billion dollars on it originally.
Time magazine loses subscription readers quarter after quarter, year after year (second to last paragraph of this article proves my point: http://publications.mediapost.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=Articles.showArticle&art_aid=69249). Yet, they continue to serve up liberal tripe - always at least a week old . . .
They ought to do a cover story on themselves and their parent company. Here is the tag line, "How to Screw Up a Multi-billion Dollar Franchise." What a joke.

Bugs may have the "ick factor"
June 2, 2008 - 13:17 ET by sarcasmoBut for me at least, reptiles have totally lost any icky-ness. They're delicious every time I try them, and usually impossible to distinguish from good chicken. But for all the unscientific & hysterical enviroweenies, we would all be able to buy farm-raised green turtle (which is especially yummy, you don't know what you're missing!!) with 0 negative impact on the wild green turtle population. Iguana eggs & flesh are also surprisingly good.

I wonder how many of these morons that are seriously suggesting this will actually practice what they preach. Of course let's imagine for a moment that everyone is a mindless zombie to science and does everything they are told, so everyone on the planet begins to eat bugs as a way to save it. Several years down the road, we suddenly begin to hear "unforeseen consequences" to the practice as the media reports of dwindling bug populations causing an inbalance in the cycle of life and we should stop now because now things are out of whack and man (specifically American's) are pure evil! [/sarcasm]
