Color me unsurprised.
The Associated Press, reporting the indictment of Puerto Rico Gov. Anibal Acevedo Vila (pictured at right via AFP/Getty Images file photo) failed to note Vila is a Democrat, let alone that he is an Obama superdelegate.
But Vila's party affiliation is hardly a state secret. Indeed, ABC's Jake Tapper noted the Obama connection on his Political Punch blog this morning:
The Governor of Puerto Rico, Aníbal Acevedo Vilá, endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, in February as we were first to report.
Puerto Rico's primary is scheduled for June 1.
Likewise, MSNBC's First Read blog mentioned the Obama ties. The AFP newswire didn't note Vila backs Obama, but did note he's a Democrat. Like the AP, CNN.com ignored Vila's party and Obama ties.

Well, does this mean
March 27, 2008 - 13:21 ET by bigtimerWell, does this mean another dem. super-delegate bites the dust or not?
I'm used to the majority of the press/msm not mentioning party affiliation when it comes to a leftist/dem. and while it is always infuriating...do these super delegates get replaced or are they even stripped of being a super-delegate?
Just curious here...

March 27, 2008 - 13:48 ET by bigtimerHowdy WTH...
Okay, but is he still able to be a super-delegate? I know with the dem. party being indicted means absolutely nothing...they just ignore little things like that, while our side has people like Delay step down immediately.
Anyway..I am getting off topic I know....Just curious how they work this with their super-delegates...for instance Spitzer....is he replaced now or is he still a super-delegate?

Yes,
March 27, 2008 - 14:42 ET by Warner Todd HustonYes, he's a super delegate. But a super delegate can be ANYONE that the Democratic Party establishment wants to be a super delegate. Technically, if the Dem. Party wants a Republican to be a super delegate, they can make him one. I think anyone can be a SD as long as the Party agrees to the appointment.
So, super delegates are not elected to the position, they are appointed.
Thanks WTH and Ken

I guess I was more or less wondering if one of the super-delegates who had been picked had to step down, if said person was indicted or in any legal or embarrassing trouble, if they were cast-aside or replaced was more like where I was going with this...I know the person is picked/appt.
Knowing the left most likely not...lol.

March 27, 2008 - 13:50 ET by Ken ShepherdTrue, but he's a superdelegate in Denver this summer and some states and territories have Democratic Party names that are slightly different than merely Democratic Party.
Minnesota, for example, has the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party.
Can we do a poll
March 27, 2008 - 14:42 ET by arbin82Can we do a poll and come up with another term other than "ignore" for when the AP does not label a Democrat in trouble. Maybe "forgot" is a better word...<sarc off> Maybe we could take up a collection and purchase new keyboards for AP writers that have the D on them.
Use Hillary's term........

March 27, 2008 - 17:31 ET by Hunter12As I pointed out a few weeks back, this a time-savings and cost-reduction strategy that works in the favor of Republicans. Because the bulk of us use moral judgements in our lives, we stay out of trouble. When a crime is commit by a Republican, party should be noted. If a crime is commit and no party affliation is mentioned, it's understood that whoever did the dirty deed is a Democrat. Elliot Spitzer, the mayor of Detroit, Jeffrey Dahmer, all Democrats.
