Update below.
Earlier today, Democratic Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick conducted a news conference with his lawyer wherein he gave a brief statement pledging to stay in office and fight the perjury charges leveled against him. As Detroit Free Press columnist Bill McGraw noted today, Kilpatrick has the dubious honor of being the first Detroit mayor to be charged with a crime while in office.
That news conference happened shortly before 1 p.m. At the time I channel-surfed through CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News and I later reviewed the video from all three to confirm my observation: Of all three news networks, only CNN tagged Kilpatrick with its onscreen graphic as a Democrat (see screencap at right).
Fox News Channel labeled Kilpatrick as "Kwame Kilpatrick, Detroit Mayor." MSNBC opted for "Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, Detroit." CNN tagged the alleged perjurer onscreen as "Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, (D) Detroit."
Update (17:33 EDT): Perhaps there's a disconnect between the broadcast operation and the Web site, or maybe we've got a closet NewsBusters fan in the CNN control room running the text generator. NewsBusters reader Paul Head just brought to my attention a March 24 CNN.com online report --filed shortly after today's press conference and 29 paragraphs long -- that failed to note Kilpatrick's party affiliation. "CNN's Chris Lawrence contributed to this report," read a note in fine print at the bottom of the article.

March 24, 2008 - 16:31 ET by QueenMumSince, "A milestone or kilometre sign is one of a series of numbered markers placed along a road at regular intervals, typically at the side of the road or in a median. Milestones are constructed both to reassure the traveller that the proper path is being followed and to indicate distance travelled, or the remaining distance to the desired destination." - Source: Wikipedia
The fact that the media choose to refer to the number of deaths as a "milestone" demonstrates that the number merely serves the purposes of the MsM as the arbitor of when we've reached the end of the road in Iraq.
P.S. Will there be also calls for photos of Kilpatrick to be withheld because he's black?
I am the exotic Queen Mum, and I approved this message.
People all over the bias
March 24, 2008 - 16:32 ET by kd5463I've got to say it was great to see the comment section today on the AP article about this. The article of course did not mention he is a Democrat. However the comment section was flooded with people asking why his political party affiliation was not mentioned and pointing out the double standard. I love the internet revolution becuase the media can be called on all its BS more than ever before.

March 24, 2008 - 16:34 ET by kgFox did mention the big "D" in the teaser right before the break.

March 24, 2008 - 16:50 ET by JerIt's also been mentioned on CNN.com, as well as many local area news websites. Still, it is less likely that a mayor's party will be identified as opposed to a national politician such as a member of Congress.
For example, perform a search on the NYT website for stories on William Jefferson, the Democratic congressman ensnared in a financial scandal, and Randy "Duke" Cunningham, the Republican congressman who is now in prison for his misdeeds. Both men are consistently identified by party in the vast majority of Times articles.

Mayor Kilpatrick - in print - LA Times - Hide the story 101
March 24, 2008 - 17:33 ET by Gary HallMayor Kilpatrick - meanwhile in print - LA Times
This was big breaking story this morning. It's usually quite predictable which stories don't catch the interest of the LA Times; Hillary Clinton caught lying, Obama never calling a meeting of his Senate Subcommittee, Clinton's former NSA being convicted, another "any nationally recognized elected official with a "D" after his name being indicted"... oops, stop. That last one caught my eye.
So predictable, in fact, that I just had to pop onto the LA Times web site to make sure that they did not disappointment us again.
Nope, nothing there on their home page. Not to be found. Then I started looking around different sections and perhaps I just missed it at first, so I linked to "National Stories" where I saw nothing, then I searched. Lo and behold, I got a hit.... Detroit mayor, former aide, charged with perjury. Well it's only an AP wire story and naturally enough the good old mayor is not identified as a "Democrat," anywhere in the story.
Well, I did go back and look and I have to admit if you link to the "National" section from the home page you will not find anything in the big national highlighted stories, but over there on the right under the "Nation:" Latest AP News, there's the little tickler; two little easy to miss side bars to the story, itself, which is still not visible:
- Kilpatrick, Worthy at a Glance- Detroit Mayor Case's Testimony, Text MsgAnyone browsing the LA Times web site today, is not going to find out about the nation's latest Democrat disgrace.
We do not need the D
March 24, 2008 - 18:11 ET by DelsaHe is not stepping down so he has to be a Democrat!!!
The R's would be GONE!
Hell, they are gone!
Another hint is "Kwame" and "Detroit". Dead givaways!

But in all seriousness, we definitely need some "D" and/or "Democrat" action happening. Aren't we all starved for this? There's been a curious drought throughout the MSM, soooo....
Drum roll please:
Democrat Senator Eliot Spitzer, NY, shamefully resigns after being caught paying for prostitution, spending upwards of 80 thousand dollars over a span of many years. He's married with 3 children. Possible use of campaign funds still under investigation.
Democrat Senator David Patterson, NY, now reveals he had extramarital affairs, and even had sex/affairs with women on his staff who were later given new jobs/positions.
Democrat Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, Detroit, and an aide indicted on felony charges, including perjury and obstruction of justice after prosecutors said sexually explicit text messages between the two contradicted their sworn court testimony.
Democrat Senator and Presidential candidate Barack Obama, Illinois, is revealed to have -- and somehow continues to maintain -- a close relationship with an overt racist, hate-mongering pastor. Proof is in not one 15-30 second soundbite, but many selected video clips from many different sermons. He has been Obama's pastor, spiritual advisor, a major figure -- and his church a primary doner -- of his campaign, was the priest at his wedding and baptised his children. He later defends this Reverend, and also refers to his grandmother as "a typical white person".
Democrat Senator and Presidential candidate Barack Obama, Illinois, and Democrat Senator and Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, NY, both have companies that contributed and/or were advisers to their campaigns, whose employees were caught snooping into passport records of all candidates in the State Department. Still under investigation.
Democrat Mayor Sharpe James, NJ, indicted last year, charged with 25 counts of corruption including charges of using city credit cards for personal expenses, abusing his office by steering discounted city property to a girlfriend who then sold the parcels for large profits.
Democrat Rep. William Jefferson, indicted last year after more than two years of being the target of a federal investigation, on 16-counts includeing charges of racketeering, soliciting bribes, money laundering, obstruction of justice, corruption, and conspiracy.

Your last line is spot on. I've made a similar point, & at least on the Detroit part part. It's a 1 party state, like NYC, LA, NO, ect.
