*Update/Correction (15:28 | January 11): Grasmick has donated to Republicans running for statewide office (OpenSecrets tracks only federal contributions), as Mark Newgent of the RedMaryland blog notes, yet all told her state and federal contributions to the GOP are quite smaller than that of those to the Democratic Party. See Newgent's item here.
The January 10 Baltimore Sun, reporting on an escalating personnel struggle in Annapolis, dutifully noted liberal Gov. Martin O'Malley's (D) charge that state school superintendent Nancy Grasmick is a "pawn" of the GOP. Grasmick has served under three governors, two Democrats (Govs. Schaefer and Glendening), and Republican Robert Ehrlich.
Yet completely missing from reporter Liz Bowie's article was any mention of Grasmick's historic political ties to Democrats. Indeed, 30 seconds in an online would yield campaign contribution data showing Grasmick has only given money to Democrats.
According to OpenSecrets.org, in the past seven years Grasmick has given money to incumbent Democratic congressmen or congressional candidates such as Elijah Cummings, Dutch Ruppersburger, and John Sarbanes. Grasmick also gave $500 to the state Democratic Party in 1999, the first year of liberal Gov. Glendening's second term. Not once during her tenure was a contribution to a Republican* listed.

Oh no a Republican Pawn or is it Pawness
January 10, 2008 - 14:49 ET by Lame CherryHuffpo and Kos will no doubt jump on this as Nancy Grasmick no doubt once saw Karl Rove on television and came under his spell. In order to impress him she decided to become a covert operative of the GOP without telling them.
She was in so deep that no one knew she was working for the GOP........the only sign was she did not spit at Rove's picture that all the other liberals would.
She even gave money to Democrats to throw them all of the trail that she was a Republican Pawness deeply in love with Karl Rove her mein furher of mayhem just waiting to bring down a Governor no one cares about...........not even his mama.
So there you have it..........a woman giving money to Democrats while working in government now being outed from an undercover operation.........
Sounds allot like Val Plame doesn't it who was working for the DNC.
Patrick Fitzgerald are you listening as you are indicting people for political reasons..........it is time to indict Gov. OMalley just like you did Scooter Libby.

Picking fights
January 10, 2008 - 15:43 ET by KC MulvilleO'Malley has a reputation for picking fights, usually to grab the spotlight more than to achieve justice. Once he gets any opposition, he goes to the scorched-earth policy as soon as possible.
He is, in other words, just a little touchy. OK, who's kidding who? He's a scandal waiting to explode. Keep your eye on this guy. He's gonna blow sometime. And yes, he's a liberal Democrat. They won't tell you that when the debris is falling, so I'll just pre-inform everyone now.
