"The Senate's 88 to 5 vote" on a one-year reprieve for middle class taxpayers on the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) "blew a $50 billion hole in the Democrats' promise not to pass any spending or tax measure that would add to the deficit," Washington Post's Jonathan Weisman and Jeffrey Birnbaum reported today. The staff writers then rounded up three "conservative 'Blue Dog' Democrats" from the House of Representatives to rail against the Senate for lacking the courage to "take a tough vote," in the words of Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.).
But just how conservative are these "conservative" Blue Dogs? Try slightly left of dead-center.
According to the American Conservative Union, Ross has a lifetime score of 44.0, while colleagues Reps. John Tanner (D-Tenn) and Allen Boyd (D-Fla.), also quoted in the story, earned a 44.2 and 40.2 out of 100 possible points in ACU's congressional scorecard. A score of 100 is considered a perfect conservative, 0 a perfect liberal. The average for the three congressmen is 42.8, a score more apt to merit the label moderate-liberal than "conservative."

Blue dog bullship Democrats
December 7, 2007 - 15:18 ET by Lame CherryIt is a small world Mr. Shepherd as my brother and I were just discussing this long distance about our back home blue dogs. We were both laughing about Colin Petersen of Minnesota and the ever boobsome Stephie Herseth in waiting for Tim Johnson to croak.
There is nothing Conservative or even left of center in these jaybirds. They are just as gun grabbing, baby butchering and crooked as Reid and Peloisi.
Last year the Republican running against Herseth broke a story NO ONE woul cover. They caught the aborticide lobby on tape praising Stephie Herseth. Now what did blue dog Herseth do?????
Oh she was the one who got the aborticide bill on the state ballot USING HER OFFICE.
She was the one who ordered her staff TO WORK ON THE ABORTICIDE CAMPAIGN.
She was the one who that aborticide lobby, "THANKED FOR HER SERVING ON THEIR GROUP".
For the record, I begged World Net Daily to cover this and anyone else who would listen as what Herseth did was ALL ILLEGAL in using her office........as in criminal.
But nope the blue dog bullship just keeps rolling along. You got to love their moxy though in Johnson used his wife's breast cancer to get elected and now is using his veg head sympathy to keep office........and Herseth to get elected somehow grew to a D size cup and was wearing tight pink sweaters for votes.
Blue dogs are as bogus as Herseth's fake boobs.

Fuzzy math
December 7, 2007 - 19:04 ET by ThisnThatI don't get it. This so-called $50B is a mistake -- caused by a runaway AMT system. So, in fact, there is no $50B income that has to be replaced. The Dims are saying "If we don't fix this, millions more people are going to be subject to AMT; but if we fix it, then the money from all those people will disapear -- and we have to find some way to replace it"!
What's wrong MSM -- can't you do the math yourselves? This is worse than a Ponzi scheme.
In fact, it's kinda like buying that worthless new rug because it's $50 off -- so you save $50 (not really -- you spent $450, you didn't save $50).

exactly
December 8, 2007 - 00:04 ET by candanceThat money was never supposed to be theirs in the first place.
It's like your kid stealing 20 bucks from your purse and when you try to take it back, they say it's already been spent so it's your tough luck.

The money grubbing Government
December 7, 2007 - 19:52 ET by c5thenThe socialists in the government come up with a tax and assume that the government has a "right" to all future projected income from it. They assume that the government has a "right" to all the money made in this country and are just nice enough to allow us poor sots to keep some of it.

}}---> Yellow running dog Democrats
December 8, 2007 - 08:14 ET by Cool ArrowWas there ever any doubt about the "bait and switch" class of Democrats that most recently joined the house?
They promised to be, and listen to, the voice of reason but they're obediently peeping under the wing of Mother Pelosi.
Oh well, at least Rudy won't change his mind about those Supremes when the time comes.
ACU score
December 9, 2007 - 16:09 ET by ricefarmC'mon, Ken, surely you realize by liberal standards a score of 42.8 is a blue dog democrat. Anything over 50 they would consider treasonous. To be a good liberal you would need to be down in that 25 range or better, where you obviously don't even read the bills, you just wait for Harry Reid's or Nancy Pelosi's office to tell you how to vote.
