Couric to Congress, Bush: 'Get Out of the Sandbox', Pass SCHIP

Photo of Ken Shepherd.

Hardly surprising, I suppose, but "CBS Evening News" anchor Katie "Who made us the boss of them?" Couric has passed judgment on the SCHIP fight between Congress and President Bush, invoking a playground analogy to hit President Bush and the Democratic Congress for "playing politics" instead of working to "put children first."

Said Couric in an October 16 vlog at her online Notebook:

Both sides are using this issue to score points when they need to get out of the sandbox, act like adults, and agree on a compromise.

That's vintage Couric, alright. As NewsBusters editor Brent Baker wrote on Sept. 24, 2006:

In a profile of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice which led Sunday's 60 Minutes, Katie Couric explained how Rice “rejects the notion that the U.S. is a bully, imposing its values on the world.” CBS then ran a soundbite from Rice as she sat a few feet in front of Couric: “What's wrong with assistance so that people can have their full and complete right to the very liberties and freedoms that we enjoy?” To which, Couric retorted by inserting one of her kids into the story: “To quote my daughter, 'Who made us the boss of them?'” (Couric has two daughters, one a teen and the other a tween, I believe.) Couric followed up: “You have said that your goal was, quote, 'To leave the world not just safer but better.' Right now Iraq doesn't seem safer, Iran and North Korea have not fallen into line. Do you honestly believe that the world is safer now?”

Couric's aforementioned quote propelled her to win a very special award at the MRC: The 2007 Dan Rather Memorial Award for the Stupidest Analysis.

Here's another video to check out, NewsBusters senior editor Tim Graham talking about Katie Couric's recent chat with career journalist and Kennedy School of Government professor emeritus Marvin Kalb. Appearing on the September 26 "Your World w/Neil Cavuto, Graham quipped:

Katie Couric "really sounds like... a light-headed Hillary [Clinton] and it sounds like she's trying to claw back into the good graces of MoveOn.org and maybe she's trying to rub the belly of the Buddha, Frank Rich, and everybody who attacked her for being some sort of Bush tool when she went to Iraq."

Compromise?

I think the flaw in Political thought is that "compromise" and "Finding a way to make it work" always trumps what is right.

Certainly we all know from experience that the MSM usually frames issues based on liberal/democratic issues as "doing what is right" while Conservative/Republican issues are usually framed by the media as "being divisive", "Playing Politics", and/or "being stubborn".

I was taught that when you had principles you stood your ground regardless of who stood against you.

Therefore you get countless denominations that have, for the sake of political correctness accepted the worlds ideas of what is right and wrong since "compromise" is something to be desired.

So...when Congress refuses

So...when Congress refuses to fund the war and screams about withdrawing troops, they are holding their ground....but when Bush refuses socialized healthcare for parents making 80K salaries, he's being stubborn. Right.

Hey, Katie, to quote your

Hey, Katie, to quote your daughter:

Who made you the boss of them ??????????????

Yeah, yeah, I know, they work for us, and we are the boss, but it's just annoying that she acts like she has the final say on this.

Yes, Katie, we know you're a mother, but sheesh, you don't have to deal with everything as if it's a childhood squabble that can be solved with a "time out."

And we were just talking about this yesterday: people who say put politics aside and do what's right for the country. Well, Katie, people disagree on what's "right" for the country, can you understand that? But you've decided that this S-CHIP program expansion is "right" and you want them to say "Yes, Ma'am,"and just shut up and get it done.

Hey Katie... Get all your

Hey Katie...

Get all your buddies, all the leftists you can gather for one huge meeting and have Hollywood throw a fund-raiser and you all donate and pay for the little children that are being excluded...

Start your own damned welfare program without making all the tax-payers do it...you whiz-bang talking heads that are forever telling us what to do adn what is better for us...put your own danged money where your mouths are...do us all a favor for once.

Free enterprise....try it, you may get a Nobel Peace Prize.

Katie

Now that Katie "The sage" Couric has spoken everyone in the country will line up behind her.

Iraq is safer, and North Korea came into line. Are you going to revisit this Katie? Huh?

She needs to pull her head out of the sandbox, and try to figure out the difference between a cut, an increase, and a four-fold increase. Also "currently covered."
