Not content to wait until Bill O'Reilly's hoped- for demise, the George Soros- funded Media Matters / mainstream media smear machine has added a second target: Rush Limbaugh.
And this time, the distortion of words may actually be more severe than in O'Reilly's case.
Now, Media Matters has twisted and edited Rush's words in a way that makes it appear he's insulting the troops. They've taken the false idea that he called anti- war soldiers "phony troops" and spread it across the Internet. But Limbaugh said nothing of the sort.
Maloney explains that MMA took out of context a remark Limbaugh made about "phony soldiers:"
Limbaugh's best point is this (Bill O'Reilly, take note): critics of conservative talk radio, especially in the mainstream media, never actually listen to these shows. They simply accept the Media Matters spin as gospel without actually tuning in. O'Reilly and Limbaugh cannot emphasize this point enough.
Limbaugh was actually talking about the story of Jesse MacBeth, a fake "soldier" who never made it out of boot camp, yet was utilized by the anti- war left as a "veteran" who agreed with Iraq opponents.

The funniest part of this...
September 28, 2007 - 18:29 ET by CatHerder...is that in his "accurate" retelling, Rush didn't even retell his story accurately.
In his "retelling," he skipped over the part in italics to make it look like he went straight from talking about phony soldiers to talking about MacBeth. In reality, the thoughts were separated by nearly two minutes of chat.
Make no mistake, he knows that he meant "phony soldiers" to apply to more than just MacBeth.

Nice try, at revisionism. Get it straight from Media Matters? Limbaugh had already talked about these phony soldiers, and this was a continuation.
The portion you italicized was likely dropped because it was irrelevant to the topic. Limbaugh is a media savvy guy. Face it, the man is smarter than you. Do you really think he would believe that portion was not accessible to leftist liars?
"Phony soldierS"
September 28, 2007 - 18:52 ET by CatHerderHe was clearly not just talking about MacBeth when he talked about "phony soldierS," he was talking about "these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media." MacBeth was one example, and a very extreme example. I can't imagine the other "phony soldiers" he speaks of have MacBeth's fraudulent background.

David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive
Okay.
September 28, 2007 - 19:06 ET by CatHerderLet's go over this slowly.
1) Rush does a morning update about this MacBeth idiot.
2) A caller calls in and says the media pulls soldiers out of nowhere to condemn the war.
3) Rush calls them "phony soldiers."
4) Rush engages the caller in a minute and a half of conversation about WMDs and other topics.
5) Rush goes back and says "here's an example of a phony soldier" and recounts #1.
6) Left-wingers complain about Rush.
7) Rush re-tells #1-3 and #5-6, but not #4, to make it look like he immediately went from saying "phony soldiers" to talking about MacBeth. In reality, he talked about MacBeth later as one (obviously very extreme) example of a "phony soldier" but suggested there were more; and I'm skeptical that the other "phony soldiers" had MacBeth's extremely shady pedigree.
8) I am left to conclude that, given (a) his use of the plural when talking about soldiers used by the MSM to talk about the war (b) the separation of "phony soldiers" and "MacBeth" by another tangential conversation (c) The fact that he later pretended #b didn't happen (d) the fact that MacBeth is obviously a very extreme example... he obviously was talking about more than MacBeth.
How is that insanity? How are you posting anything resembling reason?

The whole ball of wax ...
(I personally know four, two having done three tours in Iraq ... one who lost a leg, and another who nearly lost two legs and an arm, but returned for his third tour ... just came home, and wants to go back ... again ... But NONE are MSM news worthy because they all are behind the President and the war ... Their ranks, medals, in-country battle experiences are documented ... and their Purple Hearts earned and deserved.)
And your group is NOT considered "phony" soldiers, BTW.
The fact of the matter is, YOU could probably name troops who have been charged and put on military trials since the war in Iraq began ... but will probably refuse to note the charges were either dropped or they were found NOT guilty in a trial.

Since radio programs don't give us the benefit of visualization, that sentence leads me to believe the word soldiers was meant to have air quotes around it, as in:
these "soldiers" that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.
Meaning, these literal phoney soldiers who appear out of nowhere in the media and have all these stories of alleged atrocities going on in the Iraq war.
