Glancing over blogs that have written on the CNN "God's Warriors" miniseries, I came across a critical entry by liberal activist Sharon Cobb, formerly a contributor to the "NBC Nightly News."
While Cobb professes immense respect for CNN correspondent Christiane Amanpour, she's not well-pleased with the jet-setting journalist's latest special. Cobb is particularly chagrined with how Amanpour's special seems to treat Judaism. Here are the first few grafs of her August 22 blog post (emphasis mine):
Let me say right off the bat, I think Christiane Amanpour is the best International reporter in the world. As a journalist, I am in awe of her, and she has the guts of ten warriors. However, she is not known for being completely fair in her coverage of Israel, and unfortunately, last night was no exception.
In a three part series called 'God's Warriors,' Amanpour examines the extremists in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. This in itself is a flawed concept because the extremists in Judaism and Christianity are widely condemned within the Jewish and Christian communities, and acts of terror by Jews and Christians are almost non existent. It is Muslim extremists who are the threat to the world, not the (relatively) few wackos in Judaism and Christianity. Therefore, any comparison between the three religions' right wingers is flawed from the beginning.
Amanpour's analysis seriously lacked context as well. For the casual viewer, or even a viewer more involved in world affairs, he/she could have easily thought what was shown last night represented the majority of Jews and Israelis. Orthodox Jews only make up about 10 percent of the Jewish population, and ultra Orthodox extremists are relatively rare. And even among the ultra Orthodox, I am not familiar with any who think killing an innocent person is justified.
While Amanpour managed to find a handful of despicable hate mongers who condoned killing of Arabs, she omitted that Judaism itself, beit Orthodox, Conservative or Reform, is based on a culture of life. Indeed, there is no greater mitzvah (good deed) in Judaism than saving a life.
To say that the few Jewish wackos she interviewed who thought killing an innocent Arab was okay--to even imply that that represented Judaism, is tantamount to saying Charles Manson represents all white males.
Check here for more NewsBusters coverage of Christiane Amanpour's biased reporting.
Cobb's criticism is interesting as she is far from a conservative flame-thrower. For example, the former MSNBC online contributor is listed as a "trainer" for the liberal Nashville Peace and Justice Center (NPJC):
Sharon Cobb is an independent filmmaker and community organizer on health care issues. She has an extensive background in journalism as Southeast correspondent for MSNBC online and former contributor to NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw. Trainer Expertise: Working with the Media
NPJC's current projects include fighting to preserve Tennessee's socialized medicine program, TennCare, and calling for withdrawing troops from Iraq.

I didn't post earlier on this subject because I couldn't put my frustrations re: Amanpour's report into concise prose. I was so angry; being new to this, I just couldn't organize my thoughts. I'm sure the more I post--and read other posts here--I'll hone that skill.

CNN with a PBS tumor
August 23, 2007 - 12:31 ET by Lame CherryCNN featuring Jew hater Jimmy Carter as an expert was like asking Himler if the Warsaw ghetto was Jewish architecture on the build.
While the thrust of course is CNN on Letterman promoting this Christian and Jew hating dogma, I wanted to focus on something most people missed last night.
PBS ran a 2 hour series of Christians, Jews and Muslims "living in harmony in Spain". If CNN seemed over the top, you should have seen what PBS thought was harmony.
The funding of the special read like the cast of al Jazeera. It was all Muslim. Some of the hillarious things of harmony was how Andalusia was "united" when a Syrian Muslim showed up and murdered all the rivals.
Next "harmony" occurred when a Saddam style thug ruled over Spain giving a "strong hand" which the people needed.
Muslims also to great occasion for the cultural advancement of the west we were told GOT BOOKS FROM CHRISTIANS, TRANSLATED THEM AND THEN PUT THEM INTO LIBRARIES WHERE MUSLIMS BURNT THEM ALL DOWN.
In the entire harmony of Islam in Andalusia, there was about 200 years of thug rule where the cowed populations behaved. Otherwise there was murder, mayhem, book burning and civil wars.
For some reason PBS and CNN both equate Mosques built on Christian Churches are fine, they think the liberation of Jewish Christian Jerusalem from the Muslims as "competing warriors of God" and only when invading Muslims are driven out is there only a "problem".
If we want to be fair in CNN and PBS terms, I propose equal time and place in Medina and Mecca for Jewish Synagogues and Christian Churches. The Dome of the Rock is built upon the Jewish Mount so a Synagogue should be built on that little black box in Mecca in fairness.
Amanpour is someone void of God as much as Letterman. They do not understand religion, God nor the implications of the reality of what each side was certainly about.
The Crusades were sparked by Muslims invading Europe and raping, pillaging and forcing Christians to convert and fight in a Muslim armies. What on earth does Amanpour think Pope Ben was talking about when he gave his speech on Islam????? Ben chose the location of the epic battles where Islam was defeated in Europe and it was pushed back into the void it belonged.
Ask that moron Jimmy Carter though.......he is an expert on everything and you can be certain if he says one thing it is the other.

Great post Lame. I wonder
August 23, 2007 - 13:18 ET by Carl KolchakGreat post Lame. I wonder if the PBS special did anything on the naval battle of Lepanto in which the Muslims were using slaves as their oarsmen which were mostly Christians they had captured. In fact I think at the end of the battle, that the Christians freed 10,000 slaves. One of the differences in the Battle of Lepanto was that the Christians were using convicts as oarsmen, and could arm them and promise them freedom if victorious. The Muslims couldn't arm the slaves, because they would revolt.
Also in Spain you had the Almoravids which were Muslims from Northern Africa invade Spain, but all we ever seem to hear in history is about the Crusaders invading the Middle East. Ever heard about the Ottoman Empire defeating the Christians at Constaninople in 1453? I guess it's ok if the Ottoman Turks invade an conquer, but if the Christians invade anywhere then they are the bad guys.
Also the Battle of Tours or Poitiers in 732 was another example of the Muslims invading Christendom, and if they had defeated the Franks, Europe probably would have had all of their history from that point influenced by Islam. The Ottoman Turks also attacked Vienna in 1683 and if they had been victorious there, the rest of Europe would probably have been conquered by the Ottomans. In fact the Ottomans used to use what was called a Jannisary warriors who were on the front line. These were made up of Christians who had been captured as young boys by the Turks and then put into military units.
Now the Crusaders weren't all a bunch of great guys who did nothing wrong. In fact many of them thought it was open season on the Jews as they travelled to the Middle East. Some Jews ended up killing themselves rather than allowing the Crusaders to kill them. The Christians and Muslims both treated each other pretty ruthlessly once the other was defeated, so it's not like the Christians didn't do anything bad, but most of the information written about the Crusades seems to paint the Christians in a negative light, and the Muslims in a good light. Much of the area the Ottoman Turks conquered was from the Byzantine Empire. The Byzantines were Christian. Ever heard anything about the all the Byzantines killed by the Muslims? I guess that is ok too. The Byzantines had a very complex system, and they helped contribute to the Rennaisance movement as Byzantines fled to Western Europe. They also made many contributions to law which are still used to today such as the Justinian Code of Law. They also preserved the works of Plato and Aristotle.
In fact the Muslims had a pretty complex economic system and were doing fairly well until the Mongol invasion. In fact many Arab Scholars think the Middle East has never fully recovered from the devastation from the Mongol invasion.

READ MARK STEYN'S BOOK INSTEAD...
August 23, 2007 - 13:00 ET by danybhoyWhlile the CNN "special" may have some merits, 2 of the 3 segments could have been reduced greatly. We all know that Jews & Christians have their share of whackjobs, but we also know that there is a much higher number of Muslims who are nuts.
If you wish to watch Christiane Amanpour's 3 part special, do so. But If one really wants to know what's happened & what will come down the road, read/listen Mark Steyn's book "America Alone, The end of the world as we know it". It is a no nonsense fact based look at what is happening between Islam & the west. The demographics he points out will scare the crap out of you if you care at all about the future of western civilization.

Fred Phelps, who founded the "God hates fags" church(Westboro Bapptist Church) was in Woodbury, Minnesota a few years ago(Woodbury is not very far from where I live)to protest the high school for suspending a kid who was wearing a shirt that said "Straight Pride" on it. Instead of "Gay Pride" I'm guessing, anyway the kid who he was supporting basically said 'Get off my side', & he got really pissy about it.
Phelps & his family are a real piece of work, as well as a real piece of crap. The WBC is made up of mainly his family, & most of his many kids are lawyers. Unfortunately, about 15% of those OBL types think they do represent Islam. That's
about 200 million of them worldwide, or more than half the population of the USA.
Also, there are more than 10 million Muslims in the U.S. Using that 15% number, that means there are, potentially, about 1.5 million here who buy into OBL's version of Islam.
Now THAT'S a scary thought.
Wow!!! Maybe you
August 23, 2007 - 17:30 ET by SoftRightWow!!! Maybe you haven't noticed the trend.... Peaceful, easygoing Muslims move into an area over time, once they get to be about 40-50% of the population, hardline "OBL type" imams come along and radicalize a generation of young men who then behave badly...raping, torching, murdering.... and slowly drive out the other religions of the area....the whole time the "nice" Muslims quietly agree that it is terrible but... that's what we get for not believing in their imaginary friend, Allah. So despite the fact that they may not all personally support the violent and hateful actions of the "OBL types" they sure have no problem moving into the newly empty houses of the infidels..... Call it what you like, but it sure isn't opposition to the actions of the the terrorists.
The end result is that in 600AD there were NO 90%+ Muslim countries... Now there are dozens.....(the remaining few percent are being dealt with....give them time. Ask the Kurds of Northern Iran or the Hindus of Kashmir, or the Christians and nativists of Darfur, ...... )
.......hmmmmmmm...... ask your "nice" local Muslims if they would turn in a violent Imam that was preaching hate and recruiting local young Muslim men for terror. The answer is no, their religion requires/expects their support and we are all just infidels (less than human) anyway. Religion of Peace all right, right up until they out number you.
Fascism is what Populism becomes after the inauguration.
August 23, 2007 - 21:31 ET by BritcomCNN and the other leftist news media outlets seem to be hell bent on starting a war between secularists and people of faith. They take every opportunity to bash Christianity by unfairly beating the drum that "religion" is the source of violent extremism ala Moslem jihadists. This tactic seems to be working in the US with those who are ignorant of what American Christians and Jews believe, teach, and support, mainly secularists and atheists on the left and right coasts, and mainly liberals. This path, if left unchecked will lead the American Left down the path to National Socialism (Neo-Nazism) by embracing the Populist ideals of Al Gore and his Climate cabal. This will take the form of (and I am using a newly coined word here) "Eco-Nazism" which will teach the public that the Earth and its "peace loving" Eco-citizens are in direct danger from Oil companies, electric power generating utilities, organized religion, and people who own SUV's. Soon climate "scientists", United Nations diplomats, EPA gun toting Agents, Earth day promoters, and abortion doctors will be issued with a Red arm band with a crooked symbol of a Hurricane and will begin bashing in the windshields of SUV's in a modern day version of kristallnacht.
