For the second day in a row, Google News is placing a picture of President Bush laughing next to stories about new proposals for tightening who is eligible for the federally-backed State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). (SEE screencap below fold)
NewsBusters associate editor Noel Sheppard wrote about a similar incident on Wednesday.:
Whether an accident or intentional, the placing of a picture of President George W. Bush laughing next to the headline "Children May Lose On Insurance" is rather deplorable, especially since the picture was not from the article in question.
However, that's what occurred at Google News' Health section Wednesday morning when the featured article was the Boston Globe's piece by Alice Dembner discussing how "[t]housands of Massachusetts children from low-income families could be denied health insurance under new rules imposed by the Bush administration late last week."
Thanks to NB reader Lloyd Hohn for the tip and screen capture.

It's interesting
August 23, 2007 - 11:37 ET by dscottIt's interesting that Taxachuettes is mentioned since they supposedly have mandatory health insurance (just like car insurance) for everyone and supposedly the wealthier insured people are paying a higher premium to cover those who can't pay their premium. So it looks like a diversion by the Globe to blame Bush instead of a failed State insurance mandate on it's own people. What's the problem there libs, can't jack the premiums up high enough to cover all the poor people coming into the State to get essentially FREE health care and stop the middle and upper class flight from the State because they are fed up with Socialism????
Hey, everyone knows us Repubs steal blind people's canes, old people's walkers and crippled people's wheelchairs just for fun, so what's one more like denying children health care??? Never mind that Medicaid covers poor people including children already. Oooophs, did I just spill the beans???? Could it be that Taxachuettes having to partially fund Medicaid can't meet their obligations and can't jack up the taxes any further in fear of ending up like Washington DC did under Marion Barry????

BTW- This is why refuse to
August 23, 2007 - 14:55 ET by dscottBTW- This is why refuse to support Romney, he signed this nonsense of mandatory health insurance into Law in Taxachuettes. Only a RINO falls for a Socialistic grab at private industry. Once the State can compel you to have health insurance, they can also compel the health insurance company to assign "certain benefits", out of pocket costs and compel them to include domestic partnerships, etc. Then because of those people who could never afford mandated health insurance at a mandated level of service, the rest of the tax payers or rather premium payers are forced to subsidize those people with the PC choices mandated by the State. Once the insurance companies start to refuse to write more policies, the State then will create an insurance company of sudo Universal Health Care and drive out the remaining companies and viola Socialized Medical System with the inevitable downward spiral of quality and upward spiral of costs.

August 23, 2007 - 21:54 ET by dahliatraversMassachusetts' new mandatory health insurance law is scary. And Mitt signing it into law is one of the few things about him that disappoints me.

If it happens once, it
August 23, 2007 - 19:21 ET by Tom1969caIf it happens once, it could be the result of questionable judgement, photo selection error, rush to publication or any other number of things.
If it happens twice, it's a coincidence.
If it happens again, it's a pattern...

August 23, 2007 - 22:36 ET by dahliatraversAnd the picture didn't even come from the article?! I saw this and yes, it was annoying.
As is Google News' habit, when there are hundreds of articles on a subject, of regularly choosing the article from a Chinese newspaper to be on the front page. Wouldn't that be like, twenty years ago, posting an article from Pravda? It's hard to believe that information in a Chinese newspaper is accurate or reliable, in view of the censorship and human rights situation there. So why would Google do this? Is it a way of brown nosing or even promoting their big client, China?
