"Activist arrested in L.A.: Deported to Tijuana, pastor says."
That's the headline for an August 20 Chicago Tribune story on convicted Social Security fraudster and serial border-jumper Elvira Arellano. Reporter Antonio Olivo mentioned the conviction, but deep in the article in the 14th paragraph:
Much of the anger from across the political spectrum surrounding illegal immigration has been crystallized by Arellano's story. After entering the country illegally twice, she became an activist shortly after she was arrested in 2002 during a federal sweep at O'Hare International Airport, where Arellano cleaned airplanes. She was later convicted of using a fake Social Security card.
Before mentioning her criminal record, however, Olivo described how Arellano's arrest went down. Olivo then quoted from two of Arellano's enablers, Chicago Methodist minister Rev. Walter Coleman, who sheltered Arellano in his church for a year, and a woman described simply as "Chicago activist Emma Lozano."
Lozano's Chicago-based group, Pueblo sin Fronteras, is geared towards defending illegal immigrants and pushing for immigration reform.
Olivo eventually got around to finding someone happy with Arellano's arrest and deportation, in paragraph 20:
Rick Biesada, director and founder of the Chicago Minuteman Project, lauded the arrest, but he said it came a year too late.

There'd be no sympathy and in fact there'd be scrutiny of the church's politics, ties to Republican lawmakers, etc., etc.
There are numerous parties to hold to scrutiny here, many of whom are the ones lionized or softly treated in the media, namely Arellano, her pastor, and the left-wing organizers with whom they are affiliated.

Also, this so-called "anchor baby" policy has got to change. A baby is an American citizen if and only if the parents are already American citizens.

I'm sure the current situation of anchor babies was never envisioned. The amendment makes denial of citizenship to anchor babies problematic.
There is nothing to stop the illegal alien parents of anchor babies from being deported. However the child will have the option of exercisinig American citizenship when (s)he reaches the age of 18.

And do we not take the children of criminals from the home when the parents are carted off? There is no delima here. The parents are shiped out, babies are adopted out, raised by americans, speak english and go to school. Whats the problem with that?

If foreigner visitors - here legally - have a child, that child would still be a U.S. Citizen, but illegal immigrants would have no such claim.
I think this would clamp down on some of the more liberal interpretations we've seen lately

They come here ILLEGALY and demand rights, expect SS benefits, WIC benefits for their hordes of children, and free education! Then hold their hands out for more because they can't stop having children or unprotected sex! Used to, whenever I saw a hispanic woman she was either holding a baby, was pregnant, or BOTH! This "anchor baby" crap has to stop. If this was not allowed they wouldn't be coming over here in droves to have their kids (at the taxpayers expense mind you) so that they could stay. If they are deported then send the kids with them. I don't feel sorry for you if you have broken the law to be here. There are people that are going about becoming a citizen the correct way, that have been on a waiting list for years and are being pushed back to the end of the line because those that have broken the law want to cut in line! I just don't understand how our government can be so damn stupid!
