Joe Klein: Bush Move to Stop Iranian Terrorists is Saber-Rattling

Photo of Ken Shepherd.

Not surprising, but the Time magazine contributor and "Swampland" blogger slapped around President Bush for moving to empower the federal government to freeze assets held by the terrorist-sponsoring Revolutionary Guard Corps of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Yet two weeks ago, Joe Klein slammed President Bush for not confronting U.S. ally Pervez Musharraf about terrorist sympathizers that work covertly against U.S. interests from within the Pakistani military.

Here's Klein's August 15 post, after which I add more commentary:

More saber-rattling from the Bush Administration. I remain convinced that Bush won't bomb-bomb-bomb, bomb-bomb Iran--the military and much of his party in Congress would go nuts; senior Republicans have told me that bipartisan impeachment hearings would be inevitable--but that doesn't mean Bush won't continue to try to provoke the Iranians into some sort of military mistake. So far, the Iranians have been pretty clever about this, keeping their assistance to Shi'ite militias in Iraq fairly covert and low key, not rising to the bait.

The most distressing aspect of this latest Bush provocation is that it doesn't help the case of Haleh Esfandiari and the other Americans being held prisoner, outrageously, by the Iranians.

One final, contradictory point: the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is pretty damned close to being a terrorist organization, active throughout the middle east. They are a real problem. Too bad the Bush Administration has zero credibility in the world and can't deal with it.

But don't expect Klein to slap a Kucinich bumper sticker on his car anytime soon. In an August 1 blog post, he thought that Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) pronouncement that he'd bomb or invade Pakistan without prior coordination with the Musharraf government "was just right":

Finally, on Pakistan, what Obama is proposing is the precise opposite of what Bush has done. It is clear that not only is General Musharraf incapable of controlling his tribal areas, but also that there are elements of the Pakistani military and intelligence services that are actively Salafist and support the jihadis, quite possibly including the Al Qaeda leadership. Bush has chosen to do nothing about this.

Let's see, bombing or invading an ally in a difficult political position, an ally whom we cannot afford to lose in the war on terror, is perfectly acceptable to Klein, but freezing the financial assets of a terrorist-sponsoring nation working at the highest levels on down to kill our soldiers in Iraq, eh, not so much.

It's hard to believe Klein is interested in American lives and American security when his talking points only serve to bash President Bush and Republicans while boosting liberal Democrats hoping to recapture the Oval Office in '08.

Oh, I get ot now.  Even though everyone knows Iran is sending insurgents to kill us in Iraq, WE"RE provoking THEM?  Do these media hacks ever understand anything?  I used to subscribe to these rags, but I am recovering.

The American Revolution Continued

WAKE UP

America; the Muslim world is bent on world domination and MUST enslave The United States people in order to do so.

They are bolstered by the rest of the world because their impressions of the U S is formed by the only news that is broadcast around the world: The Communist News Network (CNN) and the BBC, the most socialist leaning publication in the world, with the New New York Times and Los Angeles Times close 2nds and 3rds.

Joe Klein and all his MSM buddies and John Kerry and all of his political buddies have everything in common with the Muslim world and want to appease them. If they are successful, hold out your hands for cuffing and buy your wife a burka.

Now on the other hand, the Muslim world and all the other dictatorships of the world join the democrats and the MSM in their obsessive hate for George Bush. If our enemies, and everyone I spoke of are the enemies of the United States, hate George Bush;;;;;;; WHAT IN HELL DOES THAT TELL YOU AND WHERE SHOULD YOU BE STANDING?

We are in the last war and it is with Islam, the MSM and the democrats. Anyone who does not understand that is either living on a remote island or is blind and deaf. The part about Islam should be obvious to all;;;but it isn't. The part about the MSM and the democrats should be obvious to everyone with a brain and it is.

Joe, Im sure that with your

Joe, Im sure that with your vast military and political experience, your intimate knowledge of the middle east and how they think and live, you should insist on intelligence briefings so you can plan out the military moves. And perhaps you could serve as ambassador to Iran. Im sure Iran would welcome you with open arms.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

Don’t expect a

Don’t expect a thoughtful, consistent foreign policy critique from Joe Klein.  He writes the follow-up reinforcement pieces to bolster the comments of various Democrats.

So far, the Iranians have been pretty clever about this, keeping their assistance to Shi'ite militias in Iraq fairly covert and low key, not rising to the bait.

The only reason Iran's military intervention in Iraq is 'fairly covert' is because the msm doesn't want to talk about it.  The military certainly knows.  In fact, you have to believe these Americans, who are aligned with our enemies, hope these powerful IED's are successful because that moves them closer to their objective of bringing down Bush.

If I were King

If I were King, by about next Monday, or thereabouts, there wouldn't be enough left of Iran to ride a camel accross.

Course, that may be why I ain't King.

Joe Klein

Klein, a former Republican, scampered over to the ‘dark side’ a few years ago. And why?

It should  be remembered that Klein wrote the book Primary Colors which was most unfriendly to the Clintons.

Then, Lo and behold, a short time later he made the switch to liberalism. Might we consider that the infamous Clinton sleaze machine got to him and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.

As for his “saber-rattling” remark,  what would he have written when Teddy Roosevelt, in dealing with not-so-friendly countries said: “Talk softly and carry a big stick”, which Bush is doing now.

Joe K. is sticking the

Joe K. is sticking the liberal mantra of fighting the enemy everywhere EXCEPT where we are currently fighting them. He will be supportive of taking action against Pakistan, until we actually do it. Then, right on cue, he will insist we need to be somewhere else.
