Awaiting the presidential press conference shortly before 10:30 this morning, CBS "Evening News" anchor Katie Couric tossed a question to Pentagon correspondent David Martin. But Couric apparently wasn't informed that Martin has lost his voice and was ill-equipped to go live on national television as he could barely whisper the answer to Couric's question.

Embarrassing
August 9, 2007 - 12:15 ET by Tim Graham"Obviously, things are not going well in Iraq." Earth to Katie: isn't there a tiny amount of good news worth acknowledging lately? Even Democrats like Sen. Durbin are acknowledging military progress, but not Katie.
Dan Rather probably loves watching her goof up live.
I love that!
August 9, 2007 - 12:25 ET by Maverick313I love how she realizes that he can't speak... and then quickly says that he is having trouble with his voice. Wouldn't she of known that prior to his interview! Hello! She must of not been listening to the little voices in her ear telling her what to say.

August 9, 2007 - 12:29 ET by Cool ArrowShe's gonna be steadily slappin' that producer around now. I'd love to watch that tantrum. I'm seeing visions of Bogart and ball bearings and strawberries.
At least he wasn't dealing

Is Katie really to blame
August 9, 2007 - 15:46 ET by TjexciteThe reporter had to talk to at least 4 people before sitting in front of the camera. (makeup, cameraman, sound recorder and a producer). Was it that hard to tell the control room that he could not talk and when they (any of the 4) found out, why have him sit down and to him why sit down when you could not talk. (Hard to be a talking head when one can not talk) CBS underlings are trying to stick it to Katie by make her look dumb and them in the process.
Exactly. This is not
August 9, 2007 - 18:04 ET by Tom1969caExactly. This is not Katie's fault; the guy should never have gotten as far as the seat in front of the camera in the first place.

David Martin can't speak and
August 9, 2007 - 18:40 ET by P.J. GladnickDavid Martin can't speak and Katie Couric can't think.
Why do you keep showing
August 9, 2007 - 18:46 ET by jdhawkWhy do you keep showing pictures of that woman, Couric? Didn't she get fired? Does CBS still have a news show? Does anyone care?
jd, Dunno. Not yet
August 9, 2007 - 18:51 ET by Blondejd,
Dunno.
Not yet (unfortunately).
Yes.
No.

August 9, 2007 - 18:51 ET by balboaStupid liberal bias! Pile on, everyone! No one at Fox News would have made this mistake, I'll tell ya' that much right now.
This one is reaching, Ken...
August 10, 2007 - 06:59 ET by JseitlerI don't think anyone here (except Bal) likes Katie, but I have to admit, this one is a groaner. This is the kind of story that I'm afraid lends to the lib's accusation that conservatives are on a witch-hunt for liberal bias; making something out of nothing. Obviously the CBS producers and the people on the other end of the camera are the ones responsible here, not Princess Perky.
You're a great writer, Ken. Stick to the stuff that is worth your effort and talent.
Martin's whispering actually
August 10, 2007 - 07:55 ET by Dave659Martin's whispering actually sounds better than Katie's smoke-coarsened voice.
