That's right. In a four page report from ABC News titled, "Tens of Thousands Celebrate 20th Anniversary of Berlin Wall's Collapse," Ronald Reagan is not even mentioned. Not once. And from what I have read, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton didn't mention President Reagan, and neither did President Obama in his taped message. I hope I end up being wrong about that, but I kind of doubt that I am.
Good grief.

November 9, 2009 - 19:09 ET by motherbeltI just finished reading a Yahoo report on the ceremony, and how Angela Merkel congratulated and thanked Gorbachev.
Mrs. Clinton praised the people of East Berlin.
Merkel also thanked Germany's neighbors to the East. She welcomed
several leaders who dared to stand up for democracy, including Poland's 1980s pro-democracy leader, Lech Walesa, and Miklos Nemeth, Hungary's last prime minister before communism collapsed.
In the whole story of the speeches, etc. not a word about Ronald Reagan. Even our own President couldn't bring himself to mouth the words.
I said this AM he probably didn't go because he didn't want to call any attention to Reagan's greatest accomplishment.
He needn't have worried.
SHAME ON ALL OF THEM!!!!
They're not fit to pull weeds at Reagan's grave!

November 9, 2009 - 20:00 ET by eaglewingz08There's a PBS special on tv now (Monday) which claims that the Beatles were responsible for the fall of the Berlin Wall. Now even though I have been a big fan of the Beatles, they disbanded nineteen years before the fall of the wall. Their members supported all the policies designed to undermine the US national security and to ensure if not an outright victory for communism, at least they and many of their supporters and colleagues sought everything possible to prop up the Soviet Union and other commie regimes. Had John Lennon been alive he no doubt would have marched with the nuclear freeze movement and against the peacekeeper missiles and against Star Wars tech. Those were the major pillars that finally brought down the Soviet Union. The only positive thing about this claptrap is that at least on some level libtards believe the fall of the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact was a good thing and want to take credit for it, even though they spent their lives doing everything to make it a success.
Agreed!
November 10, 2009 - 08:58 ET by Wildcatter1980The left ("liberals", socialists, statists, progressives, members of the lamestream media, et. al.) are engaging in the revision of history. They know that if they acknowledge Pres. Reagan's role in the fall of the iron curtain, it will only serve to hurt them in gaining the power and control they crave.

We need to stop calling them "Progressives" when in reality they are big government "Socialists" who no longer value the individual's rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Who knows the real reason
November 9, 2009 - 18:39 ET by ThisnThatWho knows the real reason why obama didn't attend. But I'll bet some of the reason was so that he could help downplay the significance of Ronald Reagon's achievement. The shadow of RR's little pinky is enough to completely blot out this puss obama. And obama knows it.
Not mentioning RR, by the way, is an orchestrated event. The MSM, obama, and his administration have all conspired to make sure Reagon receives no recognition or credit. This isn't even Chicago politics. It's Soviet-style air-brushing. The Soviets were masters of removing all evidence of people who they wanted to fall out of favor. obama is trying to do that, also.

November 9, 2009 - 19:53 ET by Gary HallWell, that's OK.. not giving Reagan credit.
After all, a few years down the road, when the country is in complete collapse from an additional $ten trillion dollars of debt, the complete failure of Obama's health care reform, and 18.2% unemployment, next to the story about the DOW being stuck in the 3,725 - 3,800 trading range, will be a story about how Reagan is responsible for causing Obama to push congress to pass his health care reform legislation.
They always get around to giving Reagan credit for something.

Why No Obama -Obvious
November 9, 2009 - 21:33 ET by slickwillie2001I expect the Bamster didn't go to Berlin because he would not have been the center of attention. He would not have been the headliner, the keynote address, etc. The man is a pathological narcissist and he can't tolerate anything bigger than himself. In Berlin the entire event, the fall of the Soviet Union, Reagan, the Pope, Walesa, Thatcher, even Gorbachev, are all giants compared to the Bamster. He can't stand those comparisons that might make the fact that he is a man-child empty-suit obvious.

November 10, 2009 - 08:39 ET by troglodytI was wondering for a long time: What exactly where Reagans accomplishments which led to the collapse of the wall? Something substantial please.

November 10, 2009 - 09:02 ET by Cool ArrowHere's one. Star Wars.
LYDSEXICS UNTIE!
Substantial enough for you?
November 10, 2009 - 09:53 ET by UnsaneIn 1983, to show that he and Western Europe would not take crap from the Soviets, and that there was a new sheriff in town and he was no appeasing, whiny Leftist, he had the GLCMs and Pershing II intermediate range missiles deployed to Britain and West Germany in order to counter the Soviet threat of the SS-20s.
This led to the INF Treaty being signed in 1987.
As CA stated, Star Wars was another biggie. When Reagan announced this on 23 March 1983, the Soviets knew that if any country could pull it off, it would be the United States. In order to counter this, the Soviets would have to add a great deal more assets to the Strategic Rocket Forces, and this was yet another item that added great strain to a Soviet economy that was already dominated by defense spending, which chewed up as much as 25% of GDP.
When the oil bust hit in 1982, no country was busted more than the Soviet Union, as oil was its biggest hard-currency earner.
Communism was hit early and often elsewhere, in places like Nicaragua, Afghanistan and Grenada. Especially in the case of Grenada, the Cubans and the Soviets were just expecting the United States to bend over and take it once again, but then came Urgent Fury.
That substantial enough for you?
By the way, it didn't hurt (not to take anything from Reagan) that the 1980s saw a wave of great leaders in the free world. Standing alongside Reagan for all of this were Pope John Paul II, PM Thatcher, and Bundeskanzler Kohl, among others.

November 12, 2009 - 06:20 ET by troglodytWell the stationing of the missiles was a NATO plan of 1977.
The influence of Star Wars on soviet politics is overrated, so I read.
The oil-bust is something one can hardly give Reagan credit for.
I don't see how the invasion of Grenada or interventions in Nicaragua were contributin to the downfall of communism.
So, no not substantial enough for me anyway.
